  1. Wow was a long time ago , every recent game launch has been like this and I think it is more to do with server rentals and accountants than what the game actually needed during the headstart.
  2. so you want to sit in a lag filled city/space station ...... no thanks
  3. is this time to do the 'star wars thing'? Bioware move their hand mysteriously and say "there are no queues". seriously though , got my copy now , put in the code , sub started .... worst queue to date ... paying for the privilegde to queue now ..... I must be stupid!
  4. only 3 hours .... I'm on 4 hours now because of client bugs ...
  5. Got to laugh , purely because if server A is overcrowded but server B has a low pop .... probabilities are that people will quit from both for totally different reasons , it is purely bad management and cost cutting as to why they did nothing at the start. They want to launch the game as cheaply as possible (just like all the other games out there). So they go with the minimum number of servers... if they capped the servers then new people would have to go to the less populated servers and they would get a nice healthy pop across te board , As it stands low pop servers will possibly die and high pop will see people quitting the game, happens in every launch and it will probably happen here also . Well done EA you lost yourself a lot of subs by being cheap! (just like all other games, don't know why these managers never learn by other peoples mistakes?)
  6. I keep saying this .... queues will eventually go down in about a months time when peopel start to quit , so just hold on for a month and .... Bioware will announce they have solved the problem.
  7. THis is not really launch day , launch day was rolled out over the last 5 days , this is only the official launch day and they have had problems for at least 4 days now .... Also it is arrogant to assume that this is peoples first launch day , this is my 12th first launch day for a game and to be frank it is more about cost cutting than actual 'launch problems' , everyone does it because they dont want to have to rent servers unless they really have to.
  8. did you apply to join a guild pre-launch? I have the same thing although I was not in a guild at that time , but the guild I had applied for is on the same server with the flag.
  9. why dont you just make another character ... use one for dps and one for healing...
  10. Launch day or not the queues have been here for the last 4 days or so now , Bioware's reaction is that they cant promise you there wont be queues! Nothing actually in the pipeline for resolving this issue it would seem so far , In this day and age you would think that a game launch would have learnt from all that have gone before ... but alas not! The only reason is money, servers cost money to run so they try to launch a game as cheap as possible I think. Instead of having too many servers they crowd everyone one on too few and then say it is to give you a quality experience! yeah right sitting in a queue for hours is a quality experience........
  11. Bioware have dropped the ball , no server management at all. They must know how many accounts one server can handle , so they should have locked the servers once they reached their limit and not allowed further people to join thus creating the problem. Usual business model , doing it as cheaply as possible. Not very far sighted though as they will no doubt lose a lot of business if this continues.
  12. I find this all worrying as it does not bode well. Firstly .. they knew how many pre-orders there were and in which regions so its no surprises on how many servers they actually needed ... that is not rocket science and very simple maths ... but they failed . Secondly ... now I am a paying customer ...... I am paying to sit in a queue! I may as well have just burned my money instead , at least it would briefly produce somthing for me in a little heat! Thirdly... Guess i'll just have to wait 1 month then the queues will vanish when people don't renew their subs! And I am extra annoyed as my game client now refuses to work....
  13. Yep when you have a staggered start all achievements mean nothing ..... And getting to lvl 50 this early is kind of sad , guess hes not even playing the game! This kind of thing can really put casual players off the game as well , makes them kind of feel like they are under achievers. Personally I'm only at lvl 14 but loving the experience (except for the queues!).
  14. Server transfer won't help because the server you transfer to will fill up quickly on launch ... then you will have to queue! In reality the servers are fine , Bioware are trying to stress test their forums by having queues on the servers to get people to post here! (joke).
  15. Same old story , The Devs do their work and produce a playable game , then for some reason someone decides not to have enough servers on launch (or headstarts ). The strangest thing is that in the long run this will cost them a lot of money in lost revenue due to people leaving the game. (which will eventually solve the problem for them ironically). But it is surprising there is no grace period... other games implemented these features very quickly on their launches due to the same problems. Kind of makes me wonder if the same company is in charge of the servers for all new games as this happens on every launch of an mmo I have seen (triple A titles before some one says it never happened on 'insert obscure mmo here').
  16. Biggest problem with server queues is if you are in a guild or have spent a long time already on your characters! My guess is Bioware are going to lose a lot of subs over this issue just like all other games that launched with poor server management (they should have put a cap on the number of accounts allowed to roll on a server). Bearing in mind that if for any reason server pops fall in the future you then do merges! But after all the careful prparation work for launch the horse has fallen at the last fence!
  17. Instancing is used in a lot of mmo's these days and it is for the best. Not everyone has a top end computer or internet connection that can cope with hundreds of players , also I would really hate to try questing with 200 other people all after my mobs , the game would also lack any challenge as the second anything respawned it would be insta killed! My load times are very fast btw so not many waits at all (except when in groups and you have to wait for the weakest link!).
  18. Well pre-launch I predicted this would happen (not a very good prediction as this happens every major game release!) So people say move server...... not so easy as your guild is on the server that has the queue! Option 2 seems the most viable with little info from bioware about how they will address this! Option 2 is to weather the queues and wait for people to cancel subs thus making the pop go down on the server! so it will be approx 4 weeks wait time (at which time Bioware will announce that they have fixed the queues!). meanwhile waiting in a queue after I was DC'd , probably due to high server population! Funniest thing is that after their careful preparation for the pre-release programme it is like this ... same as any other launch really due to poor server management (they should have prevented new characters from being made once server pop was at max).
  19. The problem is that the servers are already oversubscribed, so unless Bioware can address this they will encounter the usual response by their paying customers once the game goes live...... This is people not playing the game and cancelling accounts , this will then free up the servers and those that are left may continue playing! However considering the careful headstart programme things have now gone bad with queues appearing and it just shows once again that no matter how carefully you try to 'manage' a headstart things still go wrong. There generally are 2 ways to fix this issue.... 1) increased server capacity or 2) server migration. I guess a giant asteroid has hit the pre-start programme!
  20. Pre-order code entered 25th July , Just got the invite .... byeeeeeee!
  21. People say that at the moment the dates of registering pre-order are 21-23 July that are in. As people are now getting in from work/school or whatever people do out there I expect their servers are now experiencing a huge spike ... so dont expect too much for now! Maybe the next wave will be tommorrow ......
  22. Just to clarify.. Pre-order code entered 25th July , From the U.K> no access yet So I doubt that anyone ingame with a later date because they are from the U.K. would be false, or Europe for that matter.
  23. It may be a bad thing as it does raise some questions about the logging on server (usually the weakest link at launches).
  24. Of course the whole argument for waves is flawed..... Why? I hear you cry! The reason is this .. You send out the invites but people are at work/ school / Xmas shopping etc. etc. Then when people get home your servers are suddenly flooded with lots of people all trying to log in at the same time, kind of defeats the purpose really. Having said that it really will depend on just how many invites are in a wave though, if it was just a few thousand then it wouldn't make a lot of difference one way or another.
