  1. I understand why it'd be helpful to have this in-game, but then it becomes one more issue with pugs. If you have one player who doesn't want to use voice, and has it turned off, you have to type if there's anything you need to communicate to them and defeats the purpose of having voice in the first place.

Why would anyone not want voice comm?

Some people love to grief with the mic...

It's an epic battle until someone's mom can be heard telling them it's time for bed

Someone thinks it's cool/funny/rebellious to play music and/or sing on mic

Background noise making it through someone's mic

The plethora of problems that some people have with poor quality mics (clicking noises, too quiet, intermittently cut out, etc)

To list a few. Are there ways around these issues? Sure. But that list isn't my main point. Ultimately the issue is that some people will have voice on, others off, and then you have to type if for any reason you need to communicate to them as well.

Would probably then segregate players looking for pugs, with "voice" and "no voice" tagged on the end of LFG messages.

Just playing devil's advocate here... Personally it would be nifty, but those are probably some issues to consider, and I just chuckled at the thought of that sexy female twi'lek smuggler answering back with a deep man voice... :D

  2. Personally, I'm enjoying my time on SWTOR. I'm not saying people's concerns or issues aren't valid, but honestly, not all of us dislike the game or find the issues game-breaking. Yes, stuff needs to be changed, but as others have already stated in this thread (and elsewhere), I enjoy the system. I couldn't play WoW past level 20 without getting bored. SWTOR, however, I've gotten a character to 30+ inside of a month. If you knew me at all, you'd know that's saying something.

Seems to me like eventually some company is going to come up with a new "formula" that works out great. Then other companies will follow their example and people will accuse them of stealing it from the first company that tried it, say it's old, stale, need something new, etc.

I think I'll stay out of that cycle.

  3. First time I won the engineer flush choice on Esseles (during beta), the most I got was a "WHOA!", but no harsh words or even ill-will afterwords. If anything, I just saved the group a few minutes of having to run around. X)

But I've definitely heard of people raging over this nonsense. It's a game, you still get the points for whichever side choice you chose. Don't like it? Play it again, Sam. Or just wait a few levels and solo it with your companion, you get to make all the choices.

  4. What happens on 1/20?

Well, anyone who cancels their sub before 1/20 will no longer have posting rights on the forums, since we're still on that free month. Problem is, I think that's only the case if you registered your account on release day. If someone registered their account, say, on the 23rd, then cancelled their account, they have until 1/23.

  5. In some games I turn the music off and play my own, but not in this one. Sadly, due to the lack of noticeable music, I keep forgetting if I turned it off or not and have to keep checking. Yeah, I actually have to check to know. [...]

Was about to post the same thing; when I solo Esseles runs for the fun of it, I turn the music off and play my own since nothing new is going to happen. When I leave, I turn it back on, but sometimes I double-check that I didn't forget because the game seems so silent once I'm actually on a planet.

It isn't exactly a critical issue, but it does snag my attention from time to time.

  6. Yeah... OP should be honored that they got at least 2 known trolls into one thread. I figured their pungent smell kept each other at bay. Maybe they felt threatened and decided to overlook their collective funk and try to stave off their inevitable dewm?

(that red squiggly line under 'dewm' can shove it, it's a word in my dictionary)

  7. I have had this issue myself with a few convos on the Esseles flashpoint, and I've seen fellow players bolt off in the same (but incorrect) direction as well at these same points after convos.

I haven't had issues with combat right after just yet, but I know what you're talking about in terms of the game leaving you disoriented.

Perhaps there could be a way to have the camera swivel from the last perspective in the convo to where you're currently facing? I know it switches to special "animation sets" that ignore where you were when you started the convo, but put you back when you're done.

Maybe instead it could place everyone where the conversation scene has you standing at the end and the camera swivels behind you at the end? I have no idea how that Hero Engine works, maybe it can't do that.

  8. Since you didn't give the haters much to rage on by simply saying you love the game... Only the lowliest of the low are going to bother trying to drum up flak by asking you "Why?" and hopefully get more out of you.

As is, there's nothing much in your OP in and of itself to discuss. Seems like you're phishing for phlak? (Just thought up 'phlak', maybe it'll catch on?)

  9. Personally, even if I was concerned with the gain/loss involved... most of the time I do something they don't like in conversations, it's a -1. Even if I choose something and they go -40 or -50, all those +15's add up and typically cancel out the negatives.

But in the end, I really don't care what my companion thinks of me. The benefits don't seem important to me, and neither does their opinion of me. ;)

  10. I kinda feel the same way about MW3... When I'm not playing, I think "I don't wanna put up with all those neglected kids on XBL", but have a blast when I'm actually in. (Hey, free kills right?)

Can't say I know how to fix that, really. Sort of a psychological thing. You're obviously aware of the problem, so that's a step in the right direction.

  11. Bull...........I have seen well written, thought out, and constructive threads made only to be flamed and told to go back to WoW, people don't take criticism of ANY kind nicely, someone could have made a meal and then someone could say "Well it was good but it could have used a bit more of this" and they will get up in arms about it.

But the people who flame them aren't BioWare. Yes, the decent threads get flamed, but the only people who really need to read them are BioWare. Even if it gets flak, it's being bumped up to the top just the same, making it easier to spot.

  12. Well, there's that saying that goes something like "No news is good news."

Like you said, people enjoying themselves have little reason to go out of their way to post their thumbs up on the forums, they're just gonna keep on playing.

Therefore, the majority of the threads you're going to see on the forums are going to be some form of complaint.

Complaints are good, as long as they're constructive. If they just say "this game sucks", that's horribly vague. But even if someone is nasty in their complaint, if it's constructive, it's still useful.

Would it save time/energy if they just left out the nasty bits? Sure, but in the end, BioWare can make far more use of constructive complaints than everyone just going "Yay, me so happy! Me love SWTOR long time!"

  13. It's threads like these that give me that warm, fuzzy feeling about the community.

    Thank you!

Also, I agree with the OP and personally intend to keep playing while treating the issues like a bungling relative that I put up with because they're over all a nice person. :D

  14. Yeah, I came in here thinkin', "You wanna buy junk that has no use but can be sold to vendors?"

Saw the OP, was like "Oh..."

Honestly... I just farm the first flashpoint if I wanna fix my points to whichever side's gear I wanna wear, while still choosing options where I'm at in the story that fit my character.

  15. I got that e-mail for my blizzard account, and while I usually keep an eye on the url at the top, my anti-virus was smart about it too and threw up a huge flag screaming "known web forgery" because the url the link is presented in is for the proper site, but if you click on it, it adds extra characters that don't stand out if you aren't paying attention and sends you to a mock-up site.

That little switcharoo impressed me, but they got no info from me. (also still have the authenticator tied to my account)
