  1. From what I've read and confirmed by my own experience on multiple servers the imperial side averages a few years younger and has a higher percentage of PvP players (I'm certain about the former - less sure of the latter). Younger people tend to be less mature and more often ruder. PvP players tend to be more aggressive and more often ruder.
  2. As I recall all of the smuggler chest armor have a crapload of endurance and pathetically little cunning. I was looking forward to a nice boost from Tionese but I wouldn't even gain one point of cunning <grumbles<.
  3. Very good description - thanks. I was taking a quick look through the forum before seeing if I could figure it out in-game and you covered all I wanted to know quite succinctly.
  4. I haven't had at all the experience of the OP. I always do better with tank companions - you just need to know how to play them. Proper use of heroic moment, the dark or light legacy ability if you have it, your heals if you have any at all, etc. Often it is best to attack the boss and get some damage in rather than sending the tank in first. Then the tank can grab aggro and so you share the damage done by the enemy. One exception - Bowdaar - that big wookie is such a disappointment. I would never use him instead of Corso.
  5. Well, it can't hurt to try. I'll create new characters there and see how it goes. If I find an active guild I like I'm ahead of the game. If you set up yours and I join I'm ahead of the game. My "main" will be Dorotea (created her already so I can be sure of the name). When you are back if she isn't on send her an in-game mail message. Or send me a private message on these forums. Or just respond below. Or post a message in the server guild recruitment forum - maybe others are interested.
  6. >What would be the point in them doing that? Why should they think that all the people who refused transfers the first time around all of a sudden accept them?< We refused transfers because we didn't want to be jammed in like sardines. This would be a totally different matter. Its academic though - I'm fairly sure that phase 2 will be force-transfers. At worst - your server is about to poof and you are being transferred to the overcrowded server you already rejected. At best - we are merging all the uncrowded servers into one or two or three servers that won't be as jammed as the origunal destination servers. Or eliminating all but one or two or three and you can transfer to one of them.
  7. Thanks Blackardin. I don't eally understand why the fact that some of us (I am not alone by any means) prefer less crowded servers annoys anyone - it doesn't hurt them - they are gone now. Empty isn't good but maybe they will merge source servers in a way that leaves a few medium population servers for us while eliminating most of the servers to save on expenses. If the "super servers" are medium population by then we all have a serious problem I hope for the sake of the game as well as those who moved to them that they stay more crowded. I just don't want to BE there <shudder>.
  8. I emphatically agree with the OP's proposal. Where, for example, 5 source servers have fed into one destination server and are now ...uncrowded, it would be very very helpful if they merged the 5 into eachother instead of eliminating them all and force-transfering the characters into the same destination server. The company will still get rid of a large number of servers and there would still be a few servers left for those of us that hate crowds.
  9. Actually I wasn't left behind I was on a destination server that was a nice size before and is hideously overcrowded now. Time to start over <sigh< so I deleted all my characters to begin on one of the source servers. I'd rather be on a dying server than have to take a number and wait in line to log in, to get quest objects, to kill quest mobs, to ... I figure 1-3 months of peace and then they will kill the source servers because they are too empty - and whose fault is that? But maybe they won't. Maybe they will merge empty servers into eachother. Maybe the horse will learn to sing. Not much to lose by trying - the destination servers will be less crowded in 3 months as all the people pissed off at how this was handled head elsewhere. Any guilds that stayed behind and are looking to build back up a bit respond here or send me a SWTOR mail. East Coast PvE only please. I created 8 characters on Assassins of Sion (I liked the name) but for a good guild I'll abandon a few days of progress getting back to 50. Either faction - I've played both. Thanks. If I just wanted one server I'd ask in that server's guild sub-forum but since I'll go almost anywhere this seems like as good a spot as any to post.
  10. Been done many times in many games - it works.
  11. Free to play has a terrible impact on the community. The maturity level goes way down and many of your fellow players don't give a rat's arse about the game or what they are doing - and demonstrate that quite obviously. Even if they cap it at level 15 this really hurts the starter planets, Coruscant and Drummond Kaas. Stores always start off relatively unobtrusive - and don't sell game altering items. Fairly soon there are pop-up ads for the store and items that we spent many many hours and huge amounts of credits for are now for sale. I left EQ2 and LOTRO when they went free-to-play. And I went back to a few other games like DDO to confirm that the impact was very negative. If this happens it is a disaster and will drive a large percentage of the subscribers away. Isn't an Elder Scrolls MMO in the works? I had no plan to even try it but if this happens ...
  12. I totally disagree. Queues are NOT a good thing. Having to wait in line and take a number to get a quest mob or a resource node is not a good thing. Having 50 people after the same mobs and chests in a very small Black Hole area is not a good thing. Having 5 roleplaying servers become moribund if not dead and one become overcrowded is not a good thing. Five into one is simply ridiculous. Having two or even three desitnation servers would have spread the population out a lot better. The developers want to kill most of the servers - within 3 months they will merge the now very low-pop servers or just eliminate them and force-transfer the survivors.
  13. If I wanted other players to be able to kill me - or disease me - I would play on a PvP server. I don't. Encouraging fellow members of my faction to infect me while i'm standing around minding my own business is just so <cannot think of a word that is both accurate and in compliance with forum rules>.
  14. We have some oversimplification here. Legacy HEROIC abilities can only be used during the heroic moment. Legacies also give you other abilities. A class buff that can now include benefits from other legacy characters. A legacy darkside or lightside ability. I may be overlooking another. These abilities are not limited to the heroic moment.
  15. If a day down because of problems after a big patch meant a game needed to be free - every MMO would be free. Free play generally means a drastically lower maturity level and a large number of players that don't give a crap about the game or fellow players. I've seen that on DDO and LOTRO and EQ2. Granted DDO had to do it because the game was dead otherwise. The door isn't all THAT heavy - go free play and I won't worry that much about my posterior as I depart.
  16. Bioware shouldn't give a rat's arse if someone has a level 50 or 100 level 10s, as long as the subscription money comes in. If they had said "sorry we delayed new level 50 warzone features here is a gift to anyone with a level 50" that wouldn't have been so ...rude, to paying customers. It boggles the mind to think that one warzone feature is that important that it is the reason for the free month but if it is they should have said so.
  17. > I'm a little dissatisfied that they're aren't long hair options for female characters. < This was my major gripe about the character creation appearance options.
  18. Our ships are what SWTOR gives us instead of player housing. it would be nice if we could customize them - put a mailbox where we want, hang pictures, lay down rugs etc. No MMO that I know of does this better than Everquest 2. You can put a huge variety if of items almost anywhere in your house. Not to mention a wide selection of housing styles and sizes. I don't expect SWTOR to ever put that much effort into our shiphouses but it would be ...nice.
  19. The whole GOAL of MMO companies is to give you reasons to want to keep playing. Timesinks and creditsinks are the lifeblood of SWTOR. Some of us fixate on maxing out one character. The best gear. Every possible benefit from buffs. You fall into that category. You can probably get new gear and other benefits faster than they can roll out changes - so what is a MMO company to do. The legacy system is exceedingly clever. Those who like to play multiple characters/classes.factions benefit directly and get incentive to grind their arses off on all 8 slots per server. Those who focus on just one and feel they MUST be the best (and if your world is PVP this isn't just epeen - it is logical) now have an enormous new timesink.
  20. I generally agree with the OP - those of us that have played since release have given the same amount of money in subscription fees whether we have many 50s or have bummed around taking our time and experimenting with different servers/factions.subclasses etc. Or simply don't have time to spend more than a few hours now and then playing - the subscription revenue the company gets is the same. I have no horse in this race since I do have 50s - but it still seems unfair. The legacy cuts in at the end of chapter 1 - roughly level 30-35. But I agree many of the legacy benefits require going further than that and/or having loads of cash - by design the system is intended as a credit sink.
  21. They were back up - someone noticed that they had been reverted to an old version with all the changes and new areas missing - and they had to take them back down ASAP. Spit happens - it IS friday the 13th.
  22. Having lived through more major patches than I care to recall, on more MMOs, the fact that there were no emergency shut-downs yesterday was a pleasant surprise. I guess this is ...affirmative action to make up for that? Against Friday the 13th, the Gods themselves contend in vain.
  23. The mail does take bound-to-legacy items if you are mailing to a character in your legacy - which includes characters in the other faction. Note that an "alt" needs to be logged in after 1.2 went live in order to be recognized as a legacy character - until that is done you can't mail the item to the character.
  24. I would have said level 32-33 but I do most of the soloable non-class quests. Finishing chapter 1 lets you start earning legacy points which is important - all of your characters on the server will now contribute to legacy level. But many of the unlocks require finishing later chapters or getting to 50 (or spending credits that a first character is highly unlikely to have at level 30-33).
