  1. According to things that I have read, your characters do not need to be human if they were previously created. The characters that you have are ones that you will retain, but some will be made inactive. Upon switching to FTP, you will choose your active characters and that will be the end of it. Were you to make a new character, you would then be placed under all the species restrictions and any other customisation restrictions that BioWare implements.

The ones that you do not play will just remain dormant and unused.

This is all pending as well. BioWare is still trying to figure out what to do in a very unprofessional manner.

That sounds like what I pretty much expected, which is also what I was hoping for!

If they were going to vanish, then I's probably look at a second account for F2P, glad I won't have to.

  2. I would really like to know how my 8 toons will be impacted if I choose to play F2P.

I know I will only have access to 2 toons and I know they have to be human, what I am concerned about is the fate of those toons I do not play. Will they remain intact until I choose to resub?

  3. The problem with this:

Is that it's a platitude. It's conveys about as much as "Soon" only with the bumbling inefficiency of customer relations speak.

We have a wave of enforced character transfers looming for later summer/early fall and the servers our active characters have been herded onto, for many players, have no room left. An ideal time to add extra slots or provide the option for a reasonable fee. It's hardly a "rewrite the MMO rulebook" feature that their competitors will rush to copy. So why the secrecy?

The only reason I can see for them holding off on telling us about something the majority of well established MMOs already have is to avoid embarrasment either due to incompetence (they've claimed to listen to the clamour but simply not bothered and it's been left on a whiteboard somewhere) or greed (wait for it to appear as a grossly overpriced microtransaction when FtP arrives).

So, even though you get the answer you hoped for, you're still going to turn it around and make it into a negative.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; The real reason that this game is failing is because of the community who play it.

  4. I'm sure ability to make countless accounts and troll forums to your heart's content can't possibly have any undesireable effects. I mean, that's exactly why right now people without active account are allowed to post, right? It's not like they would spam all possible forums and after they get banned just create another account. People aren't so evil.

But seriously, they can add forum access to cash shop, with note that it;ll be lost if they can't behave.

Or better yet, grant forum access after completing final story chapter, that would mean some effort was put into that account and it's not another throw-away one.

If they are going to do this, then they need to make it that you can only access the forums after you read a certain IG level. That would then prevent the trolls from simply account hopping.
  5. So, I tried to do my first flashpoint today, 'The Esseles'. However, I ended up getting successfully vote kicked shortly in because I "wouldn't use the space bar." After explaining to the group that this was my first time through and I'd like to see the dialog, this was the result.

Is this common? I seriously hope not...

All too common, though people will not admit it. Once again, it shows how the community are equally culpable in the demise of this game. Just you wait until you accidently loot an item that someone else wants, then see them kick you, block you, stand in Fleet shouting for every other player to blackball you.

This, in my mind, has been my worst experience of an MMO community, which is why my sub ends tomorrow.

This comes from someone who promised to be in it for the long haul; I am not leaving because of anything BW or EA did, I'm leaving because of the community.

  6. I wish I had a list of the most ignored people on my server, so I could ignore them ahead of time before I had the displeasure of grouping with them.
My biggest reason for not wanting to play anymore are the hundreds of idiots, buffoons, self entitles and other assorted dregs who are just rude, ignorant and obnoxious.
  7. OK so why if they knew they were going to drop the price in days didn't the Origin Store let buyers know of the upcoming price drop?

New buyers paying $19.95 are getting bonuses that folks like me who paid 39.95 just days ago aren't getting. F2P is one thing but charging new subscribers full price when you know a price drop is coming just doesn't seem ethical!

Why would you think that anu business would do this???

Besides, the price drop was was annouced in other areas.

    Your loss I'm afraid.

  8. "My time in Austin was always planned to have a finite endpoint (my family was still living in Edmonton throughout my time in Austin) and now that I've handed the baton to Matt [bromberg, Zeschuk's successor at BioWare Austin], I will be able to spend more time on a wider range of BioWare games rather than focusing on just one as I did with SWTOR."

    /thread!

  9. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-10-bioware-co-founder-greg-zeschuk-quits-old-republic-dev-bioware-austin-report

I think we sort of already knew this, given:

Personally I would prefer clear messages from the Devs about the future. Instead I have to trawl news sites (some of which might not be reputable)

EDIT: I should say that I am not a hater. I unsubbed following the F2P announcement but I am in two minds as to whether I was wrong. I still play and don't time out till Thursday so we'll see.

Read the updated article. This was always part of the plan. He never relocated his family to Austin, so I guess he never intended to stay there.

He hasn't left the company, just this position...

  10. I would like to qualify my earlier post by saying that whilst I am not resubbing, neither am I moving to another game.

My reasons for not resubbing right now are that I don't have the desire to play any game, not just SWTOR. I am sure that this will return and, when it does, SWTOR is my likely destination.

  11. Have about a month left at this point, but have unsubscribed, primarily because I have lost the desire to play. I have no complaints or axe to grind on the subject, I just don't feel like playing at the moment so I don't want to pay.

I expect I will come back in due course, but right now I have other things that are taking up my time.

  12. I hate to break the news to you, but I expect the unique identifier *is* a number. Name (string) comparisons can be messy and long. Number comparisons are fast. There's no reason NOT to use a number.

Additionally, when somebody deletes their character, the "name" indicator on stuff they have crafted becomes "worn off". If the identifier was just a name, that would presumably be the identifier used on the crafted stuff, and thus still be there even though the character has been deleted. I would only expect the "worn off" functionality if it was a number identifer, that then goes into the database to look up the corresponding name. If there is no corresponding name anymore THEN it does the worn off message.

And, of course, you're missing the obvious reason why names are unique. Communication. How does "/whisper Bob" work if there are 25 Bobs? or "/invite fred" if there are 30 Fred's? or "/ignore SirSpamAlot"

Names need to be unique because that's how we, as players, identify other players. (and no, legacy name wouldn't be a good idea. Many people, while under the same legacy, prefer to keep their different characters friends/guilds/etc. separate. Not to mention that you don't GET a legacy until ~32 levels in)

How dare you use logical, well thought out answers as a response!!! :D
  13. 1. Friends Left - We came from SWG and, to be honest, they left almost before the game went live. Just wasn't for them.

    2. Guild Fractured - THe Guild that came across from SWG was a fun place, but the Guild Leader left (see above) and the new guild leader, whilst an existing member, chose to abandon 5 years of recruitment policy and just flung the doors open to the world. All members were given recruitment rights and there was no vetting. From there the guild fell to pieces, IMO.

I have been unable to find a new guild, where I would feel at home. I have no desire to play with the 1337 kids and have no time for in fighting and ************. I play for FUN, not for LOOTS.

I think I am done with MMO's for now and when my sub ends in August I doubt I'll be back.

Haven't logged in for about a month now.

  14. Actually they do.

    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1023610#toc7

This falls under "A service that: - is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t be easily fixed within a reasonable time"

Terms of Use contracts cannot sign away consumer protections in Australia. There's a reason why Blizzard had to smile & cough up refunds en masse in Australia when they pulled this rubbish with Diablo 3.

You think you have a case? Call a lawyer and let us know how that works out for you...

The service is not "unfit for its common purpose" and the contract you signed up to with Bioware, which overrules what you are claiming, specifically states that they do not guarentee uptime.

But, as I say, let us know how that legal action turns out for you.

  15. Meh, while I see the OPs point, I think the augments (and gear progression in general) work not only in a way similar to other MMOs, but also in a way similar to life.

For example, when cell phones came out, only early adopters had them, until they became more widely available and easier to use. Early cell phone users might have even enjoyed a competitive edge in the marketplace by being able to engage in communication more easily; however, now that competitive edge has largely been replaced as even casual users have cell phones. Just because everyone has them, doesn't make them useless; they are a convenience accessible to everyone, and getting rid of them is not the same as everyone having one.

I understand my analogy is not perfect, but I hope it makes my point.

It makes more sense that I think you are giving yourself credit for. NIce one!
  16. So the devs have said that our $15 a month gets us content however the speed at which they release said content takes too long. Looking at it in a mathematical standpoint, 1.1 released a month shortly after the release of the game and that was basically "free" since people had a free month. However, 1.2 came out THREE months later at a low price of basically $45. Now we have 1.3 coming at a another THREE short months. Do you guys feel like you are getting jacked by Bioware for paying $45 dollars for content patches?

Of course people are arguing just play every single class possible thats a load of content. But that content came from the purchase of the original $60 we paid for the game so in turn we pay $15 a month for NEW content.

I don't even know where to start with everything that is wrong with this post, and can't imagine why it has gone on for so long.

    1. Devs never said that, what they said was that some of the monthly subscription goes to that.

    2. OP, please explain how the game servers and people who maintain them are paid for, if not out of the subscription?

I could go on and on, but I fear that I would be forced to express my feeling regarding the OP's sanity should I continue, so I will not.
