  1. I'd post some arguments on why Darksilence needs to be fired, but I highly doubt he has a job in the first place.
  2. Small correction: It actually appears it was MalwareBytes that was causing the problem. I can keep McAfee running real-time scanning with no problem if I shut down MalwareBytes.
  3. I tried several solutions, including some of the more convoluted ones, suggested in threads like this one with no luck. Finally, I found a thread in Diablo III where someone suggested simply turning off your active file-scanning on your virus protection software. Fixed it immediately. Basically, your virus protection is scanning every packet that comes through the network as the game loads it. A safer bet for the long term, for obvious reasons, is find a way for your virus protection to exclude TOR from active scanning rather than turning it off completely.
  4. I would be fine with keeping PMs same-faction-only, but allowing creation of cross-faction chat channels. The key is to avoid the Alliance/Horde divide that is so intense that separate factions may as well be on separate servers. It has plagued multiple MMOs and as long as it exists, the game isn't massively multiplayer. It might be largely multiplayer, but it can't be massive unless we feel like we're all part of the same game.
  5. Yes, I've heard the old pick-up-game analogy before. I'm sorry, but a game in which you sit at home on your computer is not an even comparison with a game in which you interact with other human beings and exercise. Anything that causes you to stay at home when there are opportunities to be out is unhealthy. Now don't mischaracterize me. I don't think playing a game is any better or worse than reading, knitting, or whatever other private hobby you want to pursue. And if anyone is regularly passing up social action to sit and home to do any of those other things it is just as unhealthy. I wouldn't be surprised if people who go out more use better spelling and grammar as well...
  6. It's going to be different for everyone, of course. It depends on how many real life responsibilities you have. But here is the litmus test: The moment you turn down an opportunity to interact with real people (friends, family, club meetings, work) in order to play the game, you've crossed the line into unhealthy. I have too many close friends who entered this stage in WoW when they didn't come to parties because they had to raid with their guild. The words "have to" is another bad sign. When you HAVE TO play a game because it entails obligations, that's a big red flag.
  7. Since almost everyone who has expressed their outrage at this awfully executed launch has mentioned poor communication, the following should immediately be granted to players: 1. All new features need to be announced via personal house call from Rockjaw. 2. All new features must be available to all players five days before they are promised. Therefore, if an expansion is released on July 15th, all players MUST be playing it by July 10th, which means all players MUST have access to it by July 10th. 3. You know what? Screw that. All players must be playing new features before they are implemented. 4. NO MORE DISCRIMINATION. Absolutely no favoritism can be shown in any way. That means other people shouldn't get to play sooner than me just because they live in a different time zone, or don't have a job that prevents them from playing, or have legs that can get them to the computer faster, or own a computer.
  8. The OP doesn't even recognize the facts. More spoiled entitlement from gamers who need to get a life.
  9. Today has truly made me sad and cynical, and on levels far beyond some stupid game. I am sad that this is what we gamers are: a million-member pile of entitled spoiled brats yelling at McDonalds because they served someone in the front of the line before us. I'm truthfully saddened. Anyone who wants to talk about how horrible this launch was needs to show some credentials showing they have been on staff of a major online game during its launch or a gaming journalist for a major publication during the same. Otherwise, you have no idea what you're talking about.

  11. Isn't this a really silly issue of semantics? If the game had launched, we wouldn't be in Early Access. We'd just be in Access. Whether you define the word "launched" that way or not, the point is you paid to play on the 15th and have no entitlement to play before that.
