  1. That is exactly what I am saying. Say the tihngs you want are HK57 and Makeb. Say these are the two things you are most looking forward to. Now just guessing here obviously, say HK57 is a $5 object, Makeb $10 one. It's taking some time for these things to release, lets say...3 months. Sub wise that is $45 and F2P wise that is $15. Say all you are interested in is end game PVE, than you just pay for the FPs and OPS. Which I am guessing will be a lot cheaper than the $180 annual price for a sub game. Now they can get greedy. That will ruin it. Say if instead of single buying a OPS (like you would a map in COD) they make it so you pay $10 for 5 runs of a OPS $5 for a FP. I think that would be over doing it.
  2. One thing with GW2 is that they design the game with F2P in mind. When they say you don't need to pay for anything they mean it...because there is no end game gear progression and PVP is on equal grounds it makes it difficult for them to even pull it off.
  3. How is paying $15 for over 6 months (100 dollars plus) to fund for a team to make Makeb better than paying $10 when Makeb releases? The people vehemently against F2P is going to have to explain this to me.
  4. P2P games can be just as greedy, still have a cash shop and at the same time charge you for a subscription. I guess you enjoy paying $90 to wait/fund 6 months for a expansion opposed to paying $30 for it when it releases.
  5. DAoC EVE Final Fantasy WoW Rift There is your list of P2P games. Did I miss any? Some of the Pay to play games are old like Everquest though...so you can go play that if you like. Yes it is a MMO. Massively Multiplayer Online game. These games have reached outside the boundaries of just RPGs and now there are MMOFPS and MMORTS games...they are still MMO games. EDIT: Also it's your opinion on the original GW (one of the best selling PC series) it seemed enough people thought paying $15 for SWTOR wasn't worth it.
  6. A trial of a buy to play game essentially makes it free to play. Because players can see if they like it and then buy the rest of the game like they would buy content in a F2P game. Right now if you haven't played the GW2 beta you pretty much have to blindly jump in and hope you like it, but when the trial releases it will be the same as any other F2P game. Since original has a trial, I think we can expect that GW2 will have a trial to lure in more players. It's inevitable.
  7. It is really against their philosophy. They never looked to maintain a sub based game. It always has been and it has been proven that the F2P model can be more profitable than the P2P one. Also again, look at how they have approached making their game. http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success They are not doing it because they can't, it is because they don't want to. Maintaining a P2P model is more risky though, you do have to release a lot more content quicker in order to have players feel like their money is going towards something. Pretty much nowadays you have to release content every month in order to make players feel justified in their subs. DCUO tried this (and failed) and SWTOR claimed that they could do this (and failed) TSW plans on having updates every month and I'm willing to bet it just really can't be done.
  8. There is really little difference between B2P and F2P. Especially when the B2P game will eventually get a free trial, it just becomes a more pricey F2P game. They still have no subs and will look to EPs and having players pay for content.
  9. Haha well then that would be your own fault. In GW2 case, the best premium content will be EPs and if you don't want to buy those then you just don't. Since the game is not about gear grind you would only be missing out on new dungeons and areas and such... But if the EP takes 6 months to come out...and is $30 when it does come out...isn't that better than paying $90 for 6 months for the next big patch?
  10. I need to do this so others see it. That is likely all that is happening. Also charging you for species it looks like. There will be a lot of useless crap in the cash shop...don't buy it. No one is forcing you to.
  11. How do they make you pay for anything? It's your fault for buying the boxing gloves because you thought it would be silly and cool to have. No one else.
  12. MMOs like Planetside and GW2 will start as F2P games, and games that have moved to F2P actually turned their fortune around. Players begin to realize that you are ever actually just paying for what you want in the game. If playing operations is say $5 a month and that is all you do then you are actually saving money on the game. Just a example, I don't know how they are going to do this. In GW2 case, you are only paying for expansions IF you want to play that content. The people that have played WoW since the start have spent over $1000 in monthly fees, not including the EPs. Guild Wars one players have saved a lot more money. If you don't want the cool shades, don't buy them.
  13. Really? This is a pretty good read on how a company that has championed the F2P model sees it. Hard to disagree with them I think.
  14. F2P is the standard...right now. Get used to it or limit your choices of MMOs.
  15. We are just getting cartel points for prior months paid. But the 150 seems so small. What about the $60 I spent to buy the game?
  16. It'll be a lot more active than it is now. We'll see what they allow in the cash shop...but this game wasn't particularly made with F2P in mind. If they are doing this to compete with GW2 they have to remember that the game was designed with it in mind. Players are never going to have pay to win options because when you reach level cap you are about as good as you can get. There is no gear progression. PVP is always equal...basically the game was designed for F2P. SWTOR copied the WoW model (or tried to, but not enough content to do so successfully) which is to add as many grinds as possible and always keep the player chasing the carrot.
  17. They were after your money when it was P2P as well. Except then they could get lazy and not release any content and in effect making it so you are paying for nothing but access to a game that you already bought.
  18. Nothing is. People are uninformed about a F2P model and how a successful one works.
  19. EA just admits that this game was a "Miss" lulz. They still have a ton of subs though, I think if they handle the F2P model well then it could only go upwards once the "OH NOES PAY TO WIN!" people stop freaking.
  20. Yeah the operation thing does give PVE players a advantage...in PVE. The PVP thing could be a problem...but ah well, that's what they get for copying the gear grind method of WoW which was meant to be a time sink for players more than anything.
  21. Also if you swear off of F2P games now then good luck. If you look at all the upcoming major MMOs they are all F2P. Your options are now Rift, TSW, or WoW and I'm guessing people here don't enjoy those games otherwise they'd be playing them instead.
  22. Actually it is the sub model that tries to steal money for players. It is the sub model that has players paying for nothing, literally giving the company $15 every month something new isn't added to the game. It is the sub model that adds a bunch of fluff to the game, adds a bunch of grindy mess just as a time sink to keep the players occupied. I've played DCUO as a F2P game and have only spent $10 on it. This was all on cosmetic stuff, glowy costume parts that would help me stand out a bit more. Free to play Is NOT Pay to win. Anyone who says so does not have a clue what they are talking about. All you are doing is paying for content directly just like DLC. If you don't want that content you do not buy it.
  23. Problem is...once you reach 50 the game pulls the old switch-a-roo! How many casual players going to hop on that gear treadmill after playing through a pretty enjoyable leveling experience? They better be releasing more content...but we know how that goes. After 1.2 they said they would release monthly contents...so yeah...
  24. This won't happen. You people need to realize that things change...it's alright...that is life. F2P model is just paying for content like it is DLC. If you don't want the dancing Jawa, don't buy it. No one is forcing you to.
  25. Bwahahahaha Some of you man...As I said, every major MMO will be F2P in the future. Better get used to it.
