  1. As a returning player myself i agree with the sentiment of this thread. I resubbed mid last week and started reading through the class forums to learn how the classes are and what builds work/don't work for PvP nowadays (I haven't played since 50 was the cap). Jugg was my main for PvP back then so this section was the first place i looked but almost every thread is full of the same names arguing over things that had nothing to do with the thread starter's questions, so much so to the point that i still haven't even logged onto that toon yet and have no plans to do so until i can be bothered sieving through all the nonsense to get to the meat and bones of the info. Instead I rolled a Guardian to reacquaint myself. None of the other class forums have the problem that this one does. Sure there is the odd argument but for the most part they are constructive and a good source of learning. The Jugg section is more like a school playground.
  2. 336 in place would take 5 - 10mins, if even that.
  3. News @ 5... not everyone plays the game with only 1 toon or a few alts. Personally i think the OP is well within reason to be asking those questions.
  4. I'd wait a month or two before admitting that. Just over a month ago the population of one of the EU destination servers had the occasional queue and multiple fleet instances, a month later just before the 'transfers' it was lucky to see 100 on the fleet. That type of decline doesn't get stopped by mere merges, it will take changes and additions to the game.
  5. I've been playing since day one of early access and i can't say the server transfers have had the same impact on me. I'm a PvP'er, I don't enjoy the PvE aspect other than the rush of leveling and looking for the opposite faction while doing it so i know i'm self limited with what the game has to offer but the parts i do enjoy just doesn't provide enough to keep me here much longer. My sub runs out in 2 days and i can't really see myself resubbing other than out of impulse and lack of anything else to play. I wouldn't like to even guess how many warzones i've played until this point, they likely count in the tens of thousands. No matter the population of a server PvP is still few and far between in the leveling process, even with actively seeking it. Server transfers or not nothing has been added to the game for players like me, i'd go as far as to say more has been removed than added... Ilum. All it offers currently is ganking, i don't care about open world PvP rewards but the zone doesn't even offer hubs that are strategic for group PvP. I don't say any of this with hate for the game but rather with disappointment. I just hope the game doesn't end up with the same problems it had a week ago a month or two after the merges. The most populated EU PVP server went from 300-400 at peak time on fleet at the start of May on the Rep side to around 100 a month later before the merges. Nothing has changed since then other than the consolidating of the population, they need to get control of the decline through patches and i fear a group finder won't even nearly touch on what needs to be done.
  6. I don't believe there has and i doubt they plan any changes. I know it must suck for people who enjoy playing a single character but i like the differences between my alts such as weapons. Animations dependent on stance is something i'd love to see but i'd rather they spent their time dev'ing more content.
  7. Indeed, but very few people buy hardware with a single game in mind. IMO anyone building a new PC should be doing so with the next 3-5 years in mind with future upgrades as a factor, that also includes limiting them and memory is one that is easy to predict. In the next few years games using more than 3gb ish being more the norm is inevitable. I wouldn't have said £30 for cheap crap btw fella, Kingston HyperX 1600mhz (the only speed that matters for both sandy and ivybridge) is usually around that price on Amazon. Cheap, good and future proof, can't go wrong. 32bit limit tends to get bypassed on games that have heavy modding support. It's one of the reasons i love PC gaming so much and haven't had a console since the PS1
  8. Should be? No, they spent too much money making it for it to make sense. B2P only makes sense when development costs are reasonable. Wish it was? Of course, who wouldn't want a sub free MMO. I also want sub free cable, ain't gonna happen though. GW/2 is an anomaly.
  9. They won't openly admit anything but yes your only option is to use the transfer if you wish to play with people. Despite what they say the whole thing is a server merger and origin ones will eventually be closed.
  10. That depends, heavily modded games like Skyrim, FSX, GTA etc can use a significant amount of RAM. They are the exception but the biggest reason to buy 8GB is simply because it's so cheap, there really isn't an argument for getting 4gb on a new PC when 8GB can be had for as cheap as £30.
  11. It would cope perfectly, it would cope with pretty much any game on the market maxed out tbh. It's similar to my rig now except i use the older sandybridge version of that CPU and i've never experienced any slowdown in TOR with settings maxed @1920x1080 whether it's pvp, a packed fleet etc. Edit - i'm not saying rush out and order those parts though, someone else might know of better deals you could get or be able to tweak the configuration to get you more for your money. It's just a build to give you an idea of what you should be looking at, the parts your friend was telling you were way under spec for your budget. Wait for some opinions first
  12. Just to give you an idea, this build comes in under your 1000 euro budget (947.83 Euro) so as to fit in shipping to Ireland but i imagine it wouldn't be that expensive (their deliver page says they ship over to you). Costs could be saved by removing parts you already have that could be re-used ie DVD writer, case, windows 7. 1 x Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £191.99 1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £189.95 1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.98 1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £77.38 1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache £69.98 1 x Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black £49.99 1 x OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99 1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £38.39 1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99 Total : £765.63 From : http://www.overclockers.co.uk
  13. 750w is overkill for a single card setup, even 650w is more than enough as long as a good brand/model. 7770 is faster, cooler, quieter and uses less power than a 6770. But as i said i'd still be looking at something like the 7850 with your budget, methinks your friend that's building isn't getting you the parts you could get. You should also be getting an ivybridge CPU with z77 mobo, same price as sandybridge but 10% ish faster.
  14. You could get it from overclockers.co.uk, they're pretty much the biggest in the UK and deliver to the republic of ireland http://www.overclockers.co.uk This thread should give you an idea of some builds in your budget from there http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18411690
  15. 1000€ is about £800 here, for that kind of budget you should be looking at an Ivybridge CPU, z77 motherboard and a 7850 GPU. The specs you listed shouldn't even be close to your budget.
  16. 6770 is cutting corners and won't hold up for long before you can't run games well @1080p, it was a bang per buck low price card before and you'd be better going for the 7770 which is this generations iteration of it and much faster, still cheap. PSU brand new i'd be looking for a good 650W one unless you plan on going crossfire in the future - although that motherboard doesn't support it anyway. When you say a grand is that is £'s, $'s etc...?
  17. For the last generation of cards yes but not for the current gen. Both AMD and NVidia slashed power consumption this time around. That being said i'd still get a 650W PSU if going single card route.
  18. 5.9 is the cap for all HDDs on windows experience index, it doesn't really mean anything but as i said earlier upgrading your hard-drive will likely make no difference unless your current one is defective. HDD > SSD is the difference between say a 10 second load time and an 8 second one in this game, load times are excessive across the board here compared to other ones. In game performance is the same for either. Your specs sound fine for this game tbh. Is load times your only issue?
  19. HDD/SSD upgrade would likely make no difference for you, going from an old HDD to an SSD made none to me other than cutting a couple of seconds off planet load times. Load times are excessive in this game regardless of specs. You haven't really said what's wrong. If it's low fps then yes hardware upgrade is likely the answer but that depends on what you have now.
  20. 100ms is fine and shouldn't impact you at all in an MMO. It's what matters, not your up/down speed.
  21. I'm not having more fun. More people hasn't really changed anything for me other than being able to play my old 50's seeing as i'd rerolled to another server a wee while back. Everyone i played with has already quit and doing the same few warzones over and over, especially solo just is no longer fun. I'd say character transfers or not it's probably time for me to move on.
  22. None of us are stupid, we're aware of why it's happening the way it is. Aside from yer joke, a sinking ship analogy is probably quite apt. A month ago the most populated PvP server on the EU side was gutted of 2/3 of it's population but a dungeon grinder game with no PvP releasing. These server transfers are only a band aid and one that won't stop leakage. Edit - just so i dont get jumped on... i don't want it to sink i'm just observing. Bioware need to pull out all the stops unless they want to end up merging these destination servers again in 6 months time.
  23. Crap, off peak 1 - 2 on fleet and 10 -15 peak, auction is empty etc etc. I'm really surprised they made us a destination.
  24. Holy carp, they made Prophecy of the Five the second east coast destination PvP server. Each time i logged on there yesterday the fleet population varied between 1 (me) and 10 on republic side. I suppose at least i don't need to change my names now
  25. They started an hour or two ago yesterday, or was that the day before...
