  1. Care to explain why you feel that way? i want to know the reason for the numbers you guys picked. I see a lot of hate on here and lot of love at the same time. I am curious to know the reason for both sides. Actual legit reasons.

They're just being dramatic. 200-300k is just silly. However I don't really see much growth simply based on current server trends. Most mmos have a surge of subscriptions at launch, then things kinda teeter off after the first few months. Mostly it's people who have tried it and didn't care for it, they usually leave within the first couple. As time goes on I think you'll see the game's true numbers, those in it for the foreseeable future. Game might settle into a little over a million subs as time passes, depending on how fresh they can keep the content. This number is just a guess really when you consider the saturated mmo market, then you have to anticipate other titles coming along that might grab people's attention, GW2 or even the secret world.

Edited to add, even bioware's own mass effect game might cause a population decrease when it hits in a week or so. Not a subscription hit necessarily, and it being a single player game and all. Just think people will take time off and be playing that. I've been enamored just with the multiplayer aspect of the demo myself, let alone the core game.

  2. Yeah, no one in here has posted the actual reason yet. The quote from Erickson we got before launch was something like, "If you can't imagine Princess Leia kissing it then it probably won't be in."

Apparently they thought the more exotic alien races would make us feel too far removed from our characters or somesuch nonsense.

Nonsense is a pretty good and apt word to use here. That quote has always been the stupidest reasoning for not adding some varied species. I'd love a duros smuggler, since Cad Bane is one of my favorite characters. (yeah I know he's a bounty hunter, but gunslingers get the coats and his trademark hat)

  3. I've been busy playing TOR, and enjoying it despite its flaws. It isn't perfect, but I enjoy it, so that is all that matters.

However, I keep seeing people insult, sometimes downright lie, about the game. It's getting to the point where its depressing, because I feel like this game I'm quickly falling in love with might disappear.

I mean, is there -anyone- out there that enjoys this game? It doesn't look like it from what I'm seeing... and that sucks.

I see the potential in this game, I remember countless other MMOs which had faults, and became something great. Right now, TOR's going to hold my interest for years as is, I don't want to think what it'll do my social life after some more patching and features.

Legacy system looks awesome, especially for role players like myself. I don't even know the point of this post, really. I guess its to say I've watched good games die because people these days are so full of hate and malice for anything they find the slightest fault in. It has gotten to the point where if someone likes the game on these boards, they get insulted, and verbally soul-punched for even mentioning the game is fun or they enjoy it.

There are people who enjoy the game out there, usually they are quietly playing though and aren't very vocal. I wanted to like this game myself, as you said, it has potential, but right now it is missing a lot of what it would take to be a good starwars mmo. I don't hate the game, my issue is that to me, it's very very bland. Perhaps if this was my first mmo, I'd think differently, but having played mmos since anarchy online first came out, and having played many titles since- swtor just feels very mediocre. The class stories are pretty impressive, but therein lies the issue for me, once you move past these, you are treated to a very minimal variety of quest objectives (i.e kill 20 of these, gather 6 of x, loot 12 of this) Even star trek online tried to mix it up a bit with diplomatic missions and such that didn't involve bashing something's head in with a weapon until the quest was over.

More social activities would be nice too, things for players to do when they aren't out questing, just to get people together and talking instead of zipping to their ships for the next quest hub, pazaak, something, anything. Lastly, the species, more variety please. For a universe with so many varied beings, having just differently colored humans basically is a bit of a letdown. Nautolan, rodian, trandoshans, kel'dor, cathar, duros, any number of these would be nice. i also don't mind at all if my character doesn't speak basic, I'd be content if they just use the alien gibberish with subtitles on screen. This isn't a bad game, it's just not special, and I am willing to wait a bit. However in a market that is already saturated with other titles, with more on the horizon, a game company really has to be on their feet.

  4. And what is wrong with that? If a group of people are willing to put in the time to do it, why shouldn't it be done? It is no different than a group that stacks a lot of DPS and minimum number of healers and tanks to complete the content, and completes it in a time under the enrage timer. They both chose specific classes (or the only ones available) to go in with.

I just don't understand why players must be forced into killing content in a specific time frame. The content isn't hard for most people in the first place, but by putting Enrage on it, you are forcing groups to have only specific people in their group, which is why there are tons of General Chat LFXXX class that go unanswered.

Besides, nobody in the group will know if the person you invited into your raid/group is going to be able to put out the type of DPS that your team requires to complete the content. They may be a DPS class in the traditional sense, but they may be spec'd for tanking or healing, and you wouldn't know, so you will end up wiping, when the group may be more than capable and competent enough to complete it without Enrage.

How dare you bring logic onto these boards? You realize you're making these silly replies about dps checks pointless?!!!

Seriously, you're right, having a buncha dps geared up, it's no different than stacking healers. Either way the result is the same, There needs to be new ways for bosses to challenge raids, some mechanics are just rather tired. That's mmos for you though, make a new game, and just use stuff that's been around since Napoleon was playing mmos.

  5. I'm obsessive I suppose. I can't leave a planet until I've done them all. Then again it helps to have family and a couple friends who are within the same level range, if not, higher then they can just run me through so I can at least see it.
  6. OP, how bout putting all of your complaints in one thread. You do not enjoy the game, we get it. Play or do not play, it's your 15 bucks. Just try to keep the boards clear for folks that actually have something to contribute. kthxbye

Funny, you say it's his 15 bucks, then proceed to tell him what to do with his posting rights he paid for.

  7. I havent been doing any flashpoints since lvl 40ish since i dont have the time to spend 30ish or more minutes doing so.....

Just a heads up for BW to hurry up with the LFG tool... Getting a bit tired of knowing that i bought a car and the manufacturer forgot to install windows... can get a bit frustrating

If you play a dps class, chances are when the tool goes live, you'll be waiting 30+ minutes in the queue as well.

  8. I never cared for the restrictions, and that is from a purely rp standpoint. While red sabers were traditionally the domain of the sith, it wasn't unheard of at this time in the galaxy to have naturally forming red crystals and not the synthetic type. On the subject of synthetic crystals, through the process it was possible to make ones that weren't red. This became important in the new jedi order when natural crystals were virtually non existent.

Sith usually choose red, but again there are instances where some sith didn't use a red saber at all, Exar Kun for one.

  9. I only ever use model 3 and 4 for female characters. Anything less just makes you look underfed and anorexic. That's just my opinion, way too skinny.

In contrast, male 3 and 4 look ridiculous. 3 Only seems to fit a sith warrior heavily armored.

  10. In the interest of starting a thread that has nothing to do with quitting or how much the game is lacking, I was going to ask about micro transactions. I was more or less curious about if people think they will ever make an appearance in SWTOR. I'm talking of things like saber hilt designs, armor sets without mods in them, new speeders and such - little knick knacks that wouldn't affect gameplay. I've always kinda liked the idea to get small extras like these in mmos. What are your thoughts on the matter?
  11. Thank you.

On another note, I have to ask ... which other happy meal MMO have the variety of minigames that everyone asks for? Gambling, racing, FPS, space sim and soon probably duck hunting. In time you might see most of these things, but bashing a game because it doesn't have virtual gambling or pod racing or space simulation right out of the box. It makes me wonder what expectations and delusions people around these forums have had. And before you start flaming away, yeah I would have loved a game that had a myriad of mini games in forms of racing, gambling, first person shooter and space simulation... but there's also something called reasonable expecations, practical limitations or common sense. Try to apply some logic into your thoughts and demands, think things through. You don't see me moaning about the fact that this game doesn't replace my own experience with that of my character when I'm playing...

Considering the mini games that existed already in the first kotor, it wasn't unreasonable to expect little diversions like pazaak or an instanced area for speeder racing. Even swg had speeders and areas where you could just zip around that weren't confined and filled with enemies who knock you off in one hit.

  12. Not everyone likes to be the good guy. Just saying. Many of us have been raised on enough stories where only 1 side is ever presented as triumphant, the "good" side. The world really doesn't work that way, so I think it's why some people like to make darker choices within the game, if for no other reason than to be different from how most stories in games go. Can also be seen as stepping outside of one's shoes and acting out things you'd probably never do. At least to me, that is what roleplaying games are all about. So yeah, i usually end up playing some evil figures, or shades of grey characters.
  13. Just find different people to group with. I've done flashpoints/operations (obviously not called that) in other MMOs many times and still prefer a normal pace to a chain-pulling fast pace. Chain pulling is fun for some, not for others. Some people prefer chess, others hungry hippos.

If you were any good, you'd play speed chess.

  14. So you got drunk and purchased the wrong piece by mistake, despite them adding a confirmation popup, and you are mad at CS for not answering you immediately and fixing YOUR blunder?

It's no wonder that legit tickets take so long to get answered.

I dunno, I had a legit issue, I posted about it the other day. I submitted a ticket because for some inexplicable reason, my light side jedi had an equal amount of dark side points despite never making a single dark side choice. I don't have and never have had diplomacy on this character either. I was just told "we've forwarded this to the appropriate parties, but we won't be updating you on this"

    real nice.

  15. Is it just me or are there very few color options?

All I've seen are: blue, red, green, yellow, orange, red, cyan, magenta,.... Purple?

What about all the cool colors or off colors that were in KOTOR? I remember a pale green saber I had that looked really cool. Also a silver one. There are tons of color variations out there, why can't we get them?

Also... Cyan and magenta only available at 50 is kinda lame ONLY because there aren't any unique options before that. I get you need to make some only available as a reward for doing something difficult like a raid, but why not give a few fun colors in between?

Expansions and content patches, gotta keep you hooked and playing somehow. I mean they seriously need to do things like that. I got a sub that doesn't expire til june or whatever, so they got until then I suppose to spice things up a little.

  16. what a short-sighted comment this is. The OP is having a very human reaction to a well-told story. Perhaps if you hadn't slept through High School English class you might have read a book or two that had the same profound effect?

Good stories and good story-tellers can have a profound effect on us. I empathize with the OP. I have had similar moments in SWTOR (and other BW games, by the way, which is why I love this company).

I think the OP shows us he/she is very much human. It's the people who feel nothing, whether watching a film, reading a book, or whatever, that are really the scary members of society. They lack empathy, and that is bad.

Or they see things for what they are, a story meant to entertain. There's nothing in that quest that is "profound". it would have more of an impact if you got to see the ramifications of your actions. However it's an mmo, with very confined parameters, so all you get is an upset npc, that's it. Your actions have no far reaching impact so it's not monstrous of a person who simply can't relate to choices which ultimately do not matter in the game. It's wholly different from a decent book or movie where you see the character deal with the choices they make. In this game, all you do is forgotten by the time you run to the next npc.

  17. Is it just my luck or is it common across the board that when I get a relic from the blue box it's always darkside restricted on my jedi and always lightside restricted on my sith.

Nah it isn't just you, I've noticed this myself. My sith inquisitor has FIVE relics, looted from various boxes and they are all light side restricted. My trooper has found 2 relics so far and they are dark side restricted.
