  1. If you can afford it (and you don't mind what your character looks like) you can always grab cheap pieces of adaptive gear off the GTN. Take only commendations as your quest rewards and of course fill your adaptive gear up with mods every oh, 10 to 12 levels depending on how well you can hold out. It might take a few story quests to ramp up and have enough commendations but it won't take too long . Eventually you'll have more comms than you know what to do with. The republic fleet supplies area will have all the mods and such (as well as certain planets, but only the level appropriate ones for that area) This should easily keep you in good gear throughout your leveling process.
  2. *shrug* I'll wait and see. I've heard this argument made since the day I started playing this game about how it will flood the content with "bads" but generally I have never noticed this and I personalyl have experienced in my playtime I've had more trouble with elitists than I have had with "bads" - bads should be called "noobs" though because they aren't all bad by any stretch.

In saying this I mean the elitists who get in a SM group and expect to roll through it without 1 wipe. You get a couple of wipes because noobs make an error and that person rants and rages and leaves the group after belittling the poor noob who only wanted to learn.

Often though during the dread war period everything was fun in my experience when we didn't have those elitists. PUGs would generally bel ead by people willing to lead that ... a PUG. They would explain in text what they wanted noobs to do and what to expect and we'd go at it and succeed more often than not after a few tries of each boss ( the simple ones were just simple ).

Of course there were the occasional actual bads who would jsut not listen and do their own thing over and over and that would often result in a kick but I had far more issues with rage quitters than I did actual bad players.

Now as I see it a lot of the elitists are going to quit the game during 4.0 if not already based on the feedback of no new ops etc. so hopefully they won't be as much of an issue with 4.0

In short if you aren't patient enough to put up with noobs etc. in SM ops then don't do pugs or GF. It won't be your problem that way.

Excellent post and i couldn't agree more. It's one of the reasons I kinda fell out of the raiding crowd, too many tightly wound people. I'd like to enter an encounter and actually learn it, and enjoy it, but with the majority of raiding guilds, there is no room for this. It's a shame that such content is set up in such a way where a group of small friends has no chance without being in a larger circle/guild. Cause then we wipe, we laugh we learn we move forward. That element is lost when dealing with the gaming public for the most part (not all) but most.

  3. I never cared for lfg tools myself, preferring to group up with people I know. Not going to say everyone who used it was a complete tool, but far too many were in the games I played. I however won't rally against it being implemented if other people find a use in it. I can still continue to do what I do, so I see no reason for it not to be implemented.
  4. Because i dont trust pug healers or dps to not get themselves killed. A tank can be healed through chain pulls but he cant hold aoe aggro on everything at all times and a lot of people just get themselves killed.

This here. If your team is fine with chain pulling then hey, I'm all for it, knock yourself out. However when grouping with random people, it's easier to assume that they can't handle chain pulling. I don't like to use such a broad brush stroke, but it's true in most cases. It's easier to ask if it's ok to chain pull first I suppose, some people may not like it, others may. For me it just depends, on laid back days when I'm swigging beer and eating snacks during a run, I like the little pauses now and then.

  5. Every time I look at these forums i see nothing but complaints and negativity, it must be rather insulting for Bioware to have so many of their players constantly giving them grief which cannot simply be considered constructive feedback.

Personally i think this game is fantastic, i think Bioware have done a brilliant job and should not be disheartened by the amount of whining that goes on in these forums.

The main story of characters i've played so far is fantastic - yes some of the side quests are tedious but they all have a story and not just "kill 5 chickens".

    PVP is fun!

Space combat is brilliant! I love how it plays and i understand that people may want a "free roaming" space experience, but whos to say that wont come in the future - for now just enjoy what we have because it really is good.

Flashpoints and Operations are better than any other MMO i have played in terms of strategy and excitement they are by far the best.

I could list many many more things about this game which makes it stand out for me and i know that the majority of players actually would agree with me because everyone i have spoken to or played with loves the game just as much as i do, unfortunately it seems the haters just have a louder presense on these forums.

So anyone who loves this game, reply to this thread with some positive comments. This is a very young game still and i have faith that even though i love it as it is, it is just going to get better and better. We are all waiting for things to come in the future (eg server transfer for me) but in the meantime why dont we just enjoy this fantastic game and be patient because i have no doubt that all the details which people may not be happy with right now will be gone very soon, have some more faith in Bioware, they are not idiots and they do know exactly what they are doing.

So because you find the game alright, it must mean that no one else is entitled to their own opinion? It also means that the people who are still struggling with bugs and other issues have no right to be upset about them? it also means that anyone not agreeing with you is a QQer? All good points to know. I'd like to subscribe to your limited world good sir.

  6. Server merges, like many have said. There are also several bugs that I am still dealing with now that have been in since launch. Some are minor (like ashara's lightsabers always being drawn) and some are quite problematic. Sudden and inexplicable frame rate loss. New species would be nice, really don't like nearly every race pretty much being a different colored human.

Also wouldn't mind not seeing some of the people on this forum who call others entitled because they want a product they pay for to actually work right. That or they call them whiners or QQers.

  7. I disagree. I personally don't think Sprint should even be in the game. Walking long distances increases immersion...it makes you feel you are actually in a large world rather than playing a game. The normal walk and run are realistic, sprint is ridiculous and smacks you in the face with the reality that you are just "playing a game".

That immersion worked fine for star wars galaxies in it's heyday. It was a much more open ended game. Here in swtor, you're just being led by the hand from point a to b, experiencing someone else's story (whatever class you are playing) At least for me, I can't help but think I am just playing a game.

  8. 4/10

The class quests are fun which is where most of the score comes from. The problem is that gameplay is highly repetitive. there is little to no variety in the quests (kill 10 of these, bonus mission kill 30 of these, etc etc) Planets feel like nothing but empty space with no reason to entice players to come back once they are gone, last night I was the ONLY person on hoth at peak time on my alt, this was bergeren colony. Bugs, bugs, and more bugs I have submitted several reports over the last few months, none of which have been resolved. They include, companion affection bugs, namely ashara. No decision you make, positive or negative evokes a response from her, not to mention her lightsabers are always drawn, even when they are hanging from her belt. Next up, mysterious alignment bug. Even when making lightside choices, i get dark points as well, for no reason whatsoever. I do not have diplomacy or anything of that nature, this is another issue that has gone unresolved. More recently, the newest patch has done something to the sounds of the game, speeders will suddenly be muffled among other things. There are several other issues as well I will admit while not gamebreaking, certainly don't make for a pleasant experience when they are piled one on top of the other, and have existed for months.

All in all, swtor really needs some work, I honestly hope it gets better, I just can't rate it any higher and put it in league with better mmos in it's current state, maybe given another year or more things will be different, but right now it's just barely an average title with nothing special about it really other than it being star wars.

  9. There is only two things to do (and we know that Bio will not fix it itself):

    1) if you love the game and want some MMO feel then REROLL to a heavy to full server

    2) if you are meh about the game then just quit

I rerolled myself because I just love the SW theme and the game is decent enough.

Think a fair amount of people went with option 2 which caused this issue to begin with. Kinda sucks that everyone has to pound onto one server just to get a decent experience with the game. how long before that becomes it's own problem when everyone is told to go to say, fatman?

  10. Yep. Kinrath Spider.

Bioware is too damn proud to admit they opened too many servers, and close a few of them.

They only did what the players asked for. Folks screamed murder cause they had to wait a few minutes in a queue at the start of the game, now as a chunk of the population has either stopped playing or moved on completely, you have a bunch of near empty servers. If anyone blame the fickle community heh.

  11. SWTOR is just mediocre, and that's me being as objective as objective can get. I don't blindly hate it, after playing it, I just wasn't impressed. it does nothing new besides add voice to the quests. In fact it plays it safer than a lot of other games in the mmo field. When I dig for a positive point about this game, it's mostly just "it has has voiceovers, and light sabers" From raiding to pvp, it's all very bare minimum and not memorable at all. I mean if you've pvped or raided in the past, can you honestly say swtor is the best you've had in that regard? Even from a social or rp standpoint, there just isn't much to work with here.
  12. I group all the time, for any missions, solo and heroic missions, flashpoints etc, sometimes with random folks sometimes with friends

If you are playing this as a solo game that is your choice, no one else’s, and certainly no fault of the game itself.

perhaps, though it is the game's fault for presenting content no one wants to do hardly on their way to 50. Make the group content a little more relevant. Whether you're alone or with 3 other people, stale content, is stale content.

  13. This game reminds me of LA Noire. Its like it looks SO GOOD! There's all this great voice acting, and story, and its going to be so ground breaking. You get in and all that really great ground breaking stuff just exists to present you with an insultingly repetitive and uninspired grind to a miniscule endgame.

If my game starts at 1, then why is it so boring everytime some voice actor stops talking?

Its why I always felt bad about Halo. Loved the cinematics, hated the derivative uninspired gameplay.

Remember KOTOR? Remember the voice acting? Remember how whenever the voices stopped there was something fun to do? Why is this somehow not that fun? If its modeled on that then how can it not be as fun as a 9 year old game?

This is my issue with the game. Some of the class stories are really good. it seems though that the excellent voice acting is wasted on the repetitive quests which surround the main story. They mostly boil down to kill this enemy 30 times, or collect 10 of this item. No matter how well acted these parts are, they just can't make this type of gameplay exciting. Some variety in the quest types would be a welcome change at least for me.

  14. Not dumb.

Called mechanics. You cannot play 2 of your characters at the same time, simple as that, legacy or not.

The solution for you would be to get your REAL relatives to play, then ask them to help you.

Think you missed the point of what the op was saying. warcraft for example had funny segments where your future self would aid you with quests. Don't see how it'd be unreasonable for certain parts of the game where your legacy characters came in to aid you at certain times. Oh and your signature is just... I think a bad game would prevent someone from having fun.

  15. In-game feedback usually consists of something like "I don't feel like my character progressed because the graphics of my boots didn't change," a real complaint that a real BW developer actually cited in reference to the mod system.

It's even less valuable than the most vitriolic and least constructive of forum threads; at least there's the chance for a worthwhile response in such a thread. There's no choice but to dumb the game down for the guy who complains about his boot graphics.

Precisely. In msot mmos I've played, you'd get the most constructive feedback from forums. People who run numbers, or do extensive testing on their own time. I'm not saying all things said on the forum are useful (far from it). You have a better chance to get useful feedback from someone who objectively sees the game's faults. Not someone complaining about boots as you mentioned.

  16. I'm starting to feel left out here. Is there something unusual about my machine?

    I don't experience crippling bugs.

I don't suffer from horrible FPS.

I don't get kicked to the desktop on a regular basis.

I have occasionally been stuck in terrain before but a quick /stuck resolved that.

I have a fairly high spec machine (i5 2500k + GTX570 + 16GB Ram) so I wouldnt expect FPS issues, but I've seen people relate that they are experiencing problems with higher spec rigs than me.

From the CS Forum you'd believe that everyone was about to quit as the game is unplayable. Surely I'm not the only one this isn't true for?

Please note, I am not in any way trying to deny or belittle the issues others are having. I can imagine it would be very frustrating when they happen, and people just want to have an enjoyable game experience.

Just wanted to point out that this experience isn't universal and some of us are having a great time in game.

It's a pc game, some people can run fine with no issues while others experience almost crippling problems. There could be any number of reasons for it. In SWTOR's case, it's mostly cause it's a PoS,

  17. Why is it that people lack creativity when creating their characters? I understand that the options are limited, but that isn't what I am harking at. I am talking about people seemingly going the cliche or "iconic" route when making their characters.

Why is it that that vast majority of Purebloods I see all have the bright red hue for skin color? My Pureblood has a orange-ish type huge with yellow goldish eyes and pitch black hair. However, most other people with pureblood characters ALL look the same! They all have the typical red eyes, the typical bright red skin and the typical red hair. Why is this? Like I said, there is a orange/yellowish type skin tone for purebloods and there is also a burgundy type hue that nobody seems to use. Mostly everyone who creates a Pureblood goes for the typical bright red hue. Don't get me wrong, I am not by any means complaining because it only makes my Pureblood more unique because everyone else looks the same. I am just curious as to why people go this route?

Then there is the male trooper and the ever so popular use of the 3rd Body Type. Before I stopped playing my Trooper [story bored me] I used the 2nd Body Type. He wasn't skinny, but he wasn't some human brute/krogan. He was in shape but not in an exaggerated way. Even worse than mostly everyone using the bright red hue for Purebloods, is ALMOST EVERY Trooper I see when I play as my Sith Warrior and PvP is using the 3rd Body type. Even when I was playing my trooper, it seemed like 8 out of 10 male Troopers were the 3rd Body type. Every now and then you'll see the 2nd and 4th type being using a RARELY you see the 1st. Again, why is this?

Why is this? Do people lack such creativity/imagination to the point where they just go with "whats popular"? Do they just go the iconic route and make their Troopers super buff because they are.....supposed to be super buff? Do people not choose the orange/yellow or burgundy skin hues for the Purebloods because they think that it would make them look less.....pureblood?

Again, not complaining, but just curious. Are people simply afraid to be different?

Could be because that's the way they want it, and your ideal is not their ideal. Funny that, everyone having different tastes. There is no right way or wrong way to make a character, and yours is no more unique and special than anyone else's. Game has limited features to customize as you pointed out. There are bound to be some that fit people's vision for their character more than others. It's not like anyone can go around to different people's character creation screen and take careful notes so they can avoid doing the same thing. What you are describing is probably pure coincidence.

  18. did you look at the 1.2 notes? Did you notice how big they where? Did you at all come to realize they have been doing a lot of work on 1.2 with bug fixes, new content, adjusted content and fixes?

Why the hell would you be concerned. They are obviously working their asses off.

Please give it a rest, no developer could work faster then they are doing, they are trying to please you guys but it is starting to seem that this will be impossible since the group here complain about everything.

I would not doubt if they decided to make it ftp, 90% of the people would complain, just to complain

I read this post and actually expected a teary eyed video going

    "LEAVE BIOWARE ALONE!!!!"

  19. I think the op is confusing difficulty with time consumption. Leveling is a bit quick in this game, which has nothing really to do with difficulty. I dunno any current mmo that is difficult as far as leveling. Time consuming yes, but not difficult. It sounds like the OP wants a grind, this has never been a substitute for actual gameplay in my eyes.
  20. I really like this game but I'm worried that with the launch of Guild Wars 2, people will just leave to play that, since its buy to play. I feel like, originally, this game had a lack of community [since you could do all content alone] but I'm on a heavy population PvE server now and I'm really enjoying it. The 1.2 patch update looks great, but my question is, will you be playing Star Wars: The Old Republic after GW2 comes out?

I stopped playing my account because swtor is simply lacking as a game. I really couldn't care much about gw 2 or any other mmo. This one was sort of my last hope for an mmo that would hold my interest.
