  1. Hmm... I ask because I'm not feeling it right now, but I suspect that in 6-8 months (the amount of additional time the game could've probably stood to spend in development) this game will be amazing.
  2. If an account is inactive (even for 1 year+), BW doesn't delete characters, right?
  3. What is my "attitude" exactly? I find it laughable that people have done nothing but put words in my mouth and get offended on behalf of other people who they can't say for certain are offended (hint: they're not). But seriously, my only "attitude" is that I don't understand why people play multiplayer games with the intention of never talking to another person. Let me repeat the important part of that sentence since it seems to elude so many people... I don't understand Since when does "I don't understand" = "I loathe and refuse to tolerate"? Last I checked, that's not what it means, nor will it ever. "I don't get you" is a FAR cry from "I hate your guts". But by all means, continue being offended on behalf of others. Righteous indignation feels OH SO GOOD, so who am I to burst your bubble?
  4. 1. What does "the facebook crowd" mean? 2. I think he realizes that there's more than challenges and interaction in a virtual world, but it seems pretty ironic of you to say that because you're the one who wants to do nothing but frolic with your robots, which is strictly speaking a colossal step DOWN from interacting with human beings and puts you in no place to accuse others. Don't be It's funny that you're patting people on the head and saying, "You have to accept that there will be more solo content!" when the next five patches appear to be adding new FPs and operations... There's dailies, but dailes are to content what grade F meat is to food.
  5. I think you'll like this thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=267396 And I think a server-specific LFG tool is fine as players can't be gigantic douches without that reputation affecting them. Cross-sever, however, means we get human-controlled NPCs.
  6. As I see it, the game has mostly solo content up until 50, then zero solo content. This will be rather jarring for most players, and I've already seen a number of players who have said they'll quit after finishing the story (which is discouraging). The key problem with endgame solo content is that it pangs of futility in that it'll never be enough to keep a solo player interested for long enough to matter. It'd be like a developer scrambling to develop content for a game while players are playing through it far faster than they can develop it. The reason raids and ops work so well is that players can only do them once a week and it takes a group of players a good deal of time to get through them. This means that they can continue developing new content while it takes players a bit of time to chew through existing content. Personally, I couldn't see bothering to play SWTOR in the endgame if all I was doing was gearing up companions. Are there people who could? I suppose, but I don't see it having long-term appeal when the story is over.
  7. Why would you stick around in a guild if one of the officer was such a tool? That's a fault of the officer, not the system.
  8. Certainly not. The game is already 90% solo content, really. I'm just saying that it'd be nice of the game to encourage socializing, like with Pazaak, for example. The only thing that's ever kept me playing an MMO for more than a month at endgame was a good guild. I think most solo players are going to look at the fact that the only thing they'd be doing is grinding gear for a bunch of AIs and quit up due to lack of purpose.
  9. For those not familiar, it works like so: -when players in a guild earn experience, they earn experience for the guild itself. -as the guild levels up, more "perks" are unlocked. -perks range from reducing the shuttle cooldown to 10% more exp gained to granting players the ability to summon an entire party/ops group to their location -players will not receive these perks unless in a guild. -guild groups completing dungeons/ops together earn special rewards that give the guild a LOT more exp. Why do we need this? Simple: right now, there's no real reason to be in a guild beyond organization, and that falls flat when there's no incentive to do things specifically WITH your guild. It'd be nice for guilds to matter beyond just being a container for players.
  10. If the dev is adding new single player content, why wouldn't you pay a small monthly fee?
  11. I've heard rumors that they're going to add online functionality in the future. But seriously, I'm amazed how half the people are like "That's ridiculous" and the other half are like "It goes online?".
  12. I'm not sure what makes it ridiculous. This is a game where you can go from 1-50 without ever speaking to another player or even acknowledging their existence. How is this so far-fetched?
  13. How many folks here would like to play SWTOR as an offline game? Same stories, same world, just 0 players. Would you be happier playing it offline with no other players around? Would you do so if it only cost $5 per month to play offline instead of $15? (to cover the development of new content)
  14. At that point, you may as well just request "offline mode" so you don't need to pay a monthly fee for the game (and that gives me another idea). Also, for all the bashing you've done of WoW, you do realize that WoW DOES give you the ability to collect the endgame set while never actually raiding, right?
  15. Well, the story DOES end (abruptly), but you have a good point in that if you play through ALL 8 storylines, you'll have a good time with it (though some more than others as a lot of the class quests aren't amazing, IMO). I'd suggest it but the sad truth is that it's a problem I see more and more on my server as well (The Ebon Hawk). We had some good conversations going on from time to time on the fleet, but these days, it's strictly LFG. The other sad part is that no matter how many players I recruit into our guild, they seem to never log on shortly thereafter, which means they've either gone Emp side or they've stopped playing entirely. It sucks because I see tons of higher level folks who don't have guilds and apparently don't want them.
  16. Hmm, would've thought SOMEONE would've had something to say here, what with companions becoming nearly dead to you at 50...
  17. The NTS argument only comes forth when the person in question has to continuously whittle down their definition over time because they find certain things don't apply. As set forth by the OP: "I'm not talking about people who like to solo ON OCCASION, or people who would rather play with people they know or a reliable guild. I mean people who want to play THE ENTIRE GAME without ever grouping with another person, the people who want SOLO OPS in which they use their companions as a raiding team." My definition has always been basically the same. Though, I admit I still think soloers will get more bang for their buck in a game where multiplayer isn't a focus and intended feature of the gameplay...
  18. So at last the truth comes out... You had bad experiences with bad players, ergo the ENTIRE rest of the MMO world must also be bad, right?
  19. Very true. Programming nightmares aside, you'd basically be asking BW to mash Balder's Gate on top of SWTOR. How do you command multiple companions? How do you tell them to avoid breaking CC? How do you tell them not to hit a certain mob that you don't want aggroed on a DPS companion? There's just too much here with very little return. And like I said, SWTOR already has too many reasons to NOT play with other players. Do we really need more still?
  20. How many people do I need before I can make a post questioning the behavior? I made it perfectly clear in the OP that I'm not referencing people who NEVER play except when grouped, far from it, but that thread and the outburst from the guildie made me want to pursue the idea further. Someone DID make a good point in this thread when they said that some people just love SW and sci-fi and if THAT person intends to solo, I can see why. Is it common practice for you to misunderstand what's being argued and then go on a little mini-crusade for the poor, helpless people you believe are being oppressed? The thread is directed not at people who solo, nor those who like soloing, nor even those who PREFER to solo, but toward those who choose to forsake all manner of in-game contact with other human players, effectively treating it like a single-player game, and those who become downright IRATE when they cannot solo something (a complaint that pangs of utter silliness in a MULTIPLAYER game!). Either they love Star Wars THAT much or they don't realize there are a cadre of single player games that'll deliver them a better solo experience than SWTOR EVER could. Really, Skyrim is supposedly AMAZING... Right, because of the MANY times I have VERBATIM said, "Those who like to solo have invalid opinions and should be ignored." Agreed. I never said that, ever. Someone else in this thread did. Why do you make posts that disagree with me in the first half and then agree completely with me in the second half?
  21. As do I: I enjoy soloing when there's no one around, but I'm far from against grouping up for FPs and the like. I mean, how does a person make friends in game without putting themselves out there a bit?
