  1. I haven't quit yet. Except for a couple months here and there I've been subbed since launch. But I don't feel like I have a reason to play lately. I'm not progressing in anything, even stupid things, conquests seem more pointless than ever and PVP still has pretty much all of the same problems it did last year with a few others thrown in for good measure. Balance is marginally better but that doesn't matter in wzs when half my team is completely unskilled and half of the enemy team is a farming premade and every queue results in the same teams playing over and over.

I haven't logged in for the last couple weeks at least and my play time in this game has nosedived vs last year or, I suspect, any year since launch. If swtor loses everyone like me it loses a big chunk of the revenue it's needed to survive this long.

  2. For my part, when the first MMOs came out I was excited because of the potential for recreating online rpgs displayed. We didn't have so many things but the look was basically right and it was all online and players could interact with each other, monsters and the environment.

The problem was that people with no imaginations came in and assumed that EQ and later Wow were popular because those games had big boss fights and trinity mechanics when that was the least of those game's strengths.

  3. I find it unlikely. Genre's heyday is over and I don't see any major studio making a risky investment like this. There will be some "live service" game with online component but nothing close to the scale of SWTOR.

That's what they were saying before Wow was released. "The market is saturated", "no one wants this", etc.

Plenty of people are still interested in well made MMOs. swtor, though, was obsolete in many ways even before launch day.

  4. click on the Q for PVP, then click on the Ranked Arenas text box (not the Queue for Ranked). This shows your ranked stats and above that is your valor.

Valor is still there it's just hidden.

  5. When there are two queues, the queue that requires people to get a group to play dies.

And just because some people that take steroids lose anyways doesn't mean taking steroids for weekend softball games isn't an exploit.

Grouping breaks the queueing system - it skews the averages, putting more newer, less skilled/geared and/or bots on one side and the relatively more serious/experienced players on the other. It's never going to be perfect but pvp in swtor should at least try to be fair. Either force everyone to join a group to queue or block everyone from being able to group. Sometimes I want to play 1 or 2 warzones in a bracket/faction/character I don't normally play and then stop; I'm supposed to spend an hour forming a group for that if I want to play on an even field? Just because everyone's gotten used to (exploiting) premades over the years doesn't mean it's been good for the game or good for pvp queues.

And no, "distracting" the number farmer premades by feeding them kills so my team can get the objectives pretty much never feels like much of a win.

  6. As a PVPer I've got my 326 set with 330 implants. Augments are a waste of time. Hell, getting 326/330s was also a waste of time from what I've seen. I've almost maxxed my Thyrisian whatevers. Now what? Oh yeah... Elden Ring...
  7. Giving us more weapon choices and more animation/visual options with those weapons would take a lot more work (and $) than giving us class switching. Especially when we're being given the most minimalistic possible version of class switching. So class switching it is. At the same time we're getting a shell game in the marketing that can look like they're pretending we're really getting the thing that takes a lot more work to do. I think that was an honest mistake on their parts but I wouldn't give them a pass - they oversell their expacs/additions to this game way too much and too often.
  8. We can get a lot of gear by doing the pvp weeklies over and over on several characters.

you know gear is pointless in pvp now right? you are bolstered and stat capped. :D

Augments also do nothing good to bolstered stats. To me this is insultingly dumb.

Supposedly there's going to be a "PVP Revamp" happening "soon". I wish they'd tell us what they mean by that. But I have a feeling that with this crew their changes are going to be my last straw so I can see why they're not telling us.

  9. Grouping up isn't an exploit.

The game already prioritizes group vs group when it can.

The pvp community is way too small to split them off.

    Premades are only 4 players.

There's nothing to address because its not a problem.

The game is 10 years old. They are never going to remove groups from unranked warzones. Deal with it or move on. Or better yet, group up yourself and realize premades were not the problem as you continue to still get farmed.

You don't think an unfair system is a problem. Got it.

And lol - I've seen it all, done it all, been the farmee and the farmer. I'm not one that gets my kicks farming helpless players, not my idea of fun. I will stop q'ing if I'm on either side. Many people do. That's the point. Preventing groups from q'ing regs would increase pvp participation in this game.

Just because you aren't having a problem doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

As for Musco, I don't think he deliberately lies but I could quickly list at least half a dozen things he's been wrong about over the years.

  10. ...

7.0 is a foundational update to the game. The fundamental refactoring of all abilities and Advanced Classes into Combat Styles, the addition of the long-requested Loadouts feature, and the beginnings of new UI/UX and Itemization constitute the most significant systemic changes made to SWTOR since launch. These are only the first steps toward the ambitious and inspiring vision we have for SWTOR's future. We are excited to continue bringing this vision to life in the ongoing updates and additions coming to the game this year and beyond. More story will be coming including new locations to explore, a PvP revamp, and more visual and modernization improvements are also underway. It was always intended that 7.0 would receive multiple updates in 2022 and beyond to celebrate ten years of SWTOR.

Not only does the launch of Legacy of the Sith begin the journey into updating the game, but this update also opens the doors to new players who have never experienced SWTOR before. 7.0 is meant to invite new players to the game while also bringing new experiences to returning and veteran players.

SWTOR is a ten year old game that is very dear to all of us, and we look forward to continuing the journey of a series of updates to make the game the best it can be.

    - Keith

Thanks for the general update and the short term progress report.

Can we have more specifics about what we have to "look forward to" when the "new vision" is realized? What does "PVP revamp" mean (our first reference to that was last July)?

  11. I don't know what you expect from matchmaking when the pvp pool is already really small. I also can't believe this thread is still going. You guys only notice "premades" when you're losing, but probably fail to complain about the group of 4 friends just queuing up and playing but you don't notice it because you're beating them.

Just play the damn game and stop worrying about premades so much. Or better yet, GROUP UP. I mostly solo, but pvp can be a ton of fun when you're playing in a group and just screwing around in discord.

This game's not much fun when the q is dead and you get thrown against the same premade on voice over and over. What's wrong with asking for a dev to try to make the game as fair as possible? Why should there be an "allowed" exploit for those that want to farm regs or lowbies during off hours or on lighter servers? BW said they're making changes to PVP as part of their "staggered" 7.0 rollout, maybe they can finally address this.

You haven't really addressed players concerns in this thread or any of their arguments - it looks like you're just dismissing them. If you don't care why are you posting? Just to antagonize?

  12. here is the text from one of the blogs about it

they made loads of trailers/cgi for disney stuff like star wars and marvel

Blur did the space shots for Avatar and lots of animation for Netflix' Love, Death & Robots. And the prior major trailers for swtor (and ESO and several other games now), which were award winning. There were likely slightly exaggerated claims that they cost $1m per minute. Anything other than Blur is a step down.

  13. But are often confused as such because people don’t consider others to be so grossly incompetent by accident, so they assume it must have been done on purpose.

The 7.0 situation has been like watching a train wreck happening in slow motion for several months. We, the players can see it and have warned BioWare repeatedly that they are going to cause a crash. But they are ignorant of our advice. That’s more than just incompetence when there are so many warning signs and people waving red flags to stop the derailment.

When, not if this fails, I really hope those in charge of this process are held accountable for once.

I think "accountability," if it happens, will take the form of a removal of more resources from this game and this studio, not a replacement of them.

  14. I look forward to the update, but from what I've read, it doesn't look good. Did some actually asked for different combat styles?

Where did BW get this idea from?

I'm playing from 2014 and from my experience, they never listened to their players and it always backfired at them.

One of the most viewed and posted on threads on these boards. We/I sort-of assumed that the idea was rejected by BW when they started removing the idea of advanced classes around when KOTFE was released. But now here it is - more than we were asking for; as late as it is, I'm happy with class swapping. But other than that and the new story, I'm extremely skeptical about just about everything else they're doing. I was no fan of the new flashpoint on the PTS. At this point we can just "wait and see" but I've been setting up other things to do with my free time if I'm done with this game.

  15. This doesn't even make sense

Lost Ark will effect this game's numbers (proportionately) the exact same whether they release the expansion or not

    ....

It makes sense. To the extent that 7.0 is going after new players (and they always seem to be mostly targeting them to various extreme degrees with their expacs), swtor will be competing with a juggernaut fairly directly. And losing very badly. Based on LA's numbers so far, there are plenty of people in the US looking for a new/updated MMO to play and they seem to be willing to pay $. MMO'ers tend to focus on one or maybe two at a time.

  16. There was definitely more then a couple of big doom and gloom posts for 6.0 lol. Same **** different expansion. People complain about change in general.

Have there always been complaints? Sure. In general far more people visit a company's internet forums to complain than they do to brag about the great time they're having. Whether an expansion is coming or not. But 6.0's rants were not remotely on the level that 7.0's getting. Not close. All rants, all complaining, for anything related to swtor, is not "the same ****" no matter what. That's a nonsense argument.

Again, which part of 6.0's systems do you think Bioware now believes we shouldn't have complained about? Given that they're removing almost all of them? I personally was not one of those complaining about 6.0 before release. Or 5.0. 7.0, while not unplayable or unrecognizable, is uniquely problematic on several levels.

  17. If being the crucial word here. Yes, there are trolls and shills and white knights and whatever term the online community keeps creating to classify people writing their opinions on social media and the forums. The point is that it poisons a discussion if you immediately attack the other side with remarks that target their character or motive without having any information to back that up simply as a ploy to invalidate their opinions. And you did that in your first comment about the people posting in this thread by calling them bad or getting payed by BioWare before you actually started with your arguments.

I take it you're one of those players that's looking forward to the pruning?

  18. Clearly you never played on the PTS, because if you had you would realize NiM raiders do not get Legendary gear either. The only Legendary gear in 7.0 is our Legendary items (Implants) only, which everyone can do the quest for and get them. Doing the quest for those gives solid points for Heroic weeklies (10 per area on activity finder), Daily area's (10 per), Getting 100k conquest (34). Remember heroic weeklies can be done 3 times per week each, so getting the 100 points for the quest which will give you the ONLY Legendary items can be done by everyone at whatever speed they want to do it. The quest requires 100 total points to complete, so as I said easy for all player types to do.

Not to mention. Casual and FP players can easily get better then green gear, so your claim that those groups have it so horrible is clearly a sign you did not test on the PTS, or haven't truly figured out what the best ways to gear out are. I know I intend to gear from FP weeklies, and I know it should only take me at the most 2-3 weeks to get a set of 326, and then I can pass along better gear to all of my alts. PvP'ers get Purple gear (as do NiM Ops).

Also note I have said on many times on these forums I doubt I'll ever get BiS in 7.0, since I have little interest in it. Doesn't mean the majority of these changes are as bad as some on these forums are making them out to be.

Every expansion the Doom and Gloom nonsense comes out in mass on the forums (6.0 was no different regardless of the false claims said by some here) and the game keeps going. 7.0 is no exception to this. Some will leave for sure, others will not care about the changes and keep playing, others will find they don't mind or like the changes and keep playing. We will all adapt.

When I was playing on the PTS I was noticing that it's much harder to do the conquests without having access to group content. Doing the same sets of specific heroics/dailies 3x (something that was opened up in the last couple weeks) is not my idea of fun and I doubt it would complete anyone's conquest (not too mention most of them were more tedious to slog through). It's much easier on the live service where I can get the conquest done a few minutes after hitting 10th level on a new character - whereas on the PTS I was pretty sure I finished Tython before my new character had finished his conquest.

And you're just wrong about the 6.0 backlash. There were a couple big threads, sure, but nowhere near the number of different posters or the vitriol on discord, youtube and reddit. Many of us were happy the game was getting its first expac in three years. If you're seriously confused about that then there's pretty much nothing I trust you on. And btw, in retrospect, which part of 6.0's new systems would you say BW is happy about? To me it looks like they're removing them all except the tactical items. Maybe they should have taken player concerns more seriously before they released 6.0?
