You got it backwards.
Because these servers already have a good population, the server transfers will bring MORE people to these servers, not less.
Keep in mind, the free transfers will only apply if you transfer TO certain servers, which they are encouraging to increase the server populations. My guess is these servers will be the first to fill up from incoming transfers.
It is almost guaranteed there there will not be a single high pop server you can transfer to for free. You'll be able to leave them for nothing, but it'll cost you if you want to move there. Its the only way to ensure these few servers don't become clogged when the transfers become available.

Or, people will be logging in after a time off to check out the new content, thus clogging up Fatman with login queues. Which, will generate complaints in the forum.
What doesn't generate complaints on this forum.

I need to stock up on cheese today. The whine around here is overflowing!

They should not be charging any subs until server transfers go live minimum and even longer if they do not solve grouping and population issues.
Wish in one hand, and **** in the other. I'll let you figure out which one fills up faster.
No free time is needed. Maybe some free time off from the SWTOR forums for some people would be more beneficial to the game.
-
SWTOR - 5 months since launch, still no server transfers, and future transfers to be either free but limited or paid open transfers.
TERA - Opening day, unlimited free server transfers with one day cooldown to same type of server.
Common sense and competency points go to TERA devs.
And yet, here you are. Funny, that.

Where does this say there is going to be a merge? All they said is there increasing the server cap.
It's because very few people around here actually know what a true merge is. They use the word "merge" to describe any number of possible solutions to the problem when it is not what will happen.
There will still be no "merge". It'll be transfers with targeted server closures for those with little or no population.
-
It has population issues because it has genuinely uninteresting and unsatisfying gameplay beyond experiencing the class stories.
Subjective.

The game is a muck if you cant see that, well lets just say your not seeing things clearly.
Despite what you might think, your opinion is not a fact anymore than his is.
And OP, you pay $15 a month for access to Bioware servers. That's it.
-
If companies cannot possibly release games that are up to par with wow they need to release them knowing that they will fail until they are and take a very long time to build back subs.
You are going to be waiting a very long time for these expectations of yours to be met by a game, because it is never going to happen. You should just return to WoW and never leave it again. This game will be okay without you, and these forums will be a bit quieter.

I was promised dynamic and exciting PVP content. Still waiting. I was promised Ranked warzones in 1.2 Still waiting on that one too.
The thing I am probably most dissapointed about, and I mean gutted.... I am finally for the first time in my life on a PVP server that is based in the same continent as me and I'm getting decent pings, I want the mass PVP we saw i beta testing and like other games can accomplish.
To have max 16 players per warzone feels like we have gone back to the winsock era... I hate RPG games, but the fact GW2 will have MASS pvp, I might have to go down that path. SWTOR had promise, but really needed MMO experience before attenpting such a title.
Show me the post where Bioware "promised" you any of the things above and I'll believe you. You can't, because they didn't, but feel free to try anyway.

The fact that nobody else seems to be picking up on it.
Because true or completely made up, there are people on this forum running to every thread that appears to validate their bleak outlook on this game. Threads like these give them what they want: validation.
-
i for 1 believe gw2 will be the answer for mmo's, at least in the pvp side which in all honesty is bigger then pve for any mmo
Wow. You are very misinformed. Not much else can be said without getting an infraction.

Overall I think faction imbalance and the lack of focus on PVP did it in. The game at the core isn't bad, but when most servers are 80% of one faction, world pvp doesn't happen. Additionally world pvp was not thought out well.
If SW was based 80% on one planet and not a massive collection it would have done a lot better. While the planetary system was neat and good for leveling, it splits the community. The main bases should have been at Ilum, and it would have worked a lot better.
I dont think the mmo is dead, but its hard to pull off.
Why do PvPers always think this. PvP does not save games. There is a very good reason there are not a plethora of PvP MMO games out there: your demographic is not enough to prop up said games. A game needs to have a good balance of PvP and PvE to be successful. A straight up PvP game has about as much appeal as a straight up PvE game does: not enough for game companies to waste money trying to create one that, in the end, will be a niche game (see EVE for example).

There is a staggering amount of ignorance in this thread. It does not surprise me that it is being perpetually propped up by the same 10-15 people as they post over and over again.
You know, like most threads of this nature on these forums. Same 10-15 people over and over again.

Seems that most people don't know anything about how transfers work... It's not randomly... And the purpose of transfers is actually to close dead servers to make the chosen servers bigger so actually it's practically the same as merges but the bigger server doesn't have to "move". Actually it solves most problems that merges have.
Except for that little business of the player actually having to conciously transfer their character. This is why the merger cries are here; no one wants to actually take any initiative with the problem, they just want Bioware to do it for them.
The cries, if they did actually merge servers, would be tremendous because they would only cause more issues than they would solve.

How do you know? Your not everyone else. You have no idea why someone stays or quits.
You didn't know? Everyone here thinks they speak for some vast majority that doesn't exist.

Rift and now it has 15 very well populated servers and a great community.
No, Rift did not merge servers. You do not know what a merge of servers is (I explained above). What Rift did was offer transfers, then close their dead servers. This is not the same as a server merge.
-
Rift for one. Also EA's other debacle Warhammer Online. Aion also.
This comment tells me you do not know what a merger is. What Rift did was offer transfers, then close dead servers (I believe this is the procedure they used; never played Rift, just going on heresay).
Merging requries a physical merge of the data from the servers, which is a messy, complicated business that is worth much more trouble than it is worth. It is also a bad move publicly, as the Internet would then explode that the game is truly dead on all websites everywhere and good luck getting any new players after that.
That is the great debate; those calling for mergers are misunderstanding what a merger actually is. Some will argue it's just semantics, but I think the difference between the two is night a day.

So BW release a video about the next patch and one of the hottest discussions is about how often James blinks.. I think that gives a pretty good indication about the state of the game.
You are right. We should stop this fun nonsense immediately.
There is doomsaying to be done around here, dammit, knock this fun **** off. YOU HEARD ME!
-
Blinking should have been in at launch. I mean, come on, it's been 6 month and no blinking? WoW has had blinking for 73 years, ***!
Being facetious is fun.

Blizzard does not attend E3 as they have their own convention in the Fall.
Blizzcon is canceled this year, I believe. Doesn't mean they will come to E3, but I am fairly certain their own convention is not going to happen in 2012.
-
Warranted or not, GW2 will be the big talk this year, I'm sure as far as E3 is concerned. Unfortunately, we will have to hear about this all over these forums for a month after E3 has passed about how awesome GW2 is going to be and how this game will lose all of its subs because of it.
Meh, predicting the future is fun, but around here some make it a little too easy.

We have a fairly large community on The Ebon Hawk, RP-PvE.
I am sure there are several servers with good populations; my server, Darth Bandon, seems to be fairly lively on the Republic side, anyway. My comment was more a jab at the type of player who flocks to a PvP server than the posters comment on the server itself; those communities are usually festering, abhorant playlands for adolescents who passed adolescence many years ago.

I keep suggesting a X-server toggle on the LFG tool, but they'd rather argue instead of embrace a solution.
I'd wager that xserver proponents, like myself, would be perfectly fine with this plan (I am). The other side, however, is so adamant about the "evils of the LFG tool" that no compromise short of "never put this in ever, other players on other servers might hurt my feelings" is going to suffice.
Honestly, I'd never use the toggle because I see no issue with xserver. I have no objections to having a tool with both options. I do know that just single server may alleviate the issue somewhat, but it is not going to help the way an xserver would.
When will there be a SERVER MERGE?
in General Discussion
Posted
Your prediction is off, because there will be no mergers. Server consolidation (transfers off, then dead servers closed down) is highly likely (it's how I would do it; it's how Rift did it, with success, so I've heard) is probably likely. Mergers? No.
