    I definitely didn't like the first change you made. But now that you made the abilities on CD darker again I'm happy. GCD is displaying properly now, it's easy to tell what's up and what's not. I don't have any complaints about it now. Except that maybe the flashing could cause a problem for epileptic people...

  3. I was using X-Button to bind CTRL and ALT to my 4th and 5th mouse buttons since my mouse didn't come with any program of its own. Everything was working great until the last patch and now X-button won't work in the game any more. Can anybody tell me something else I can use to bind CTRL and ALT to my mouse buttons that will work with this last patch?
  4. Theme-park MMO designs have reached an untenable situation of exponential costs + ever-shorter leveling curves. The theme-park style of MMO has reached a point of oversaturation -- people burn through the leveling content in 5 days /played and expect more within weeks. IMHO the only way forward from here is to mix together elements of the Theme Park, with the Sandbox. Sandbox MMOs alone are too niche to be economically feasible or popular on a large scale. But having sandbox elements in a theme park design, would help subscribers weather the periods between content updates, and give them a reason to keep logging in. It would be the social hub that MMOs have been missing for quite some time.

     

    MMOs in the past featured an extensive grind with few quests. My first character in EQ1 took 50 days /played to hit L50, for example. (18-20 days for WoW) But what current MMOs are missing is the social aspect of MMO gaming from the past -- sure you were grinding, but chatting with groupmates and those in the zone was just as important or moreso than leveling your character. This is one of the largest reasons the Korean market still prefers heavier grinds -- it's for the socializing. I think they need to lengthen out the leveling once more and tap more into the social aspects of MMOs. Social networking is so huge now -- why is it that Massively MULTIPLAYER games are such insular solo content these days?

     

    If Bioware really wants SWTOR to succeed they need to first and foremost, provide more cohesive guidance on how to proceed at L50, but then also add in sandbox elements to give players ways to spend their time between patches. Player housing, a total revamp of the crafting system for a more meaningful meta-game, etc. Heck I think an amazing thing would be an EVE-like space part of the game that you could explore and carve out your own little niche, except far less ruthless than EVE, of course.

    (Quality of life and Guidance issues I'll address in a separate thread)

     

    I so agree. MMOs have become too watered down. It's much too easy to reach level cap and the longevity that MMOs once had is gone now. I used to disagree with people when they called TOR a single-player game but they're right. Sure there are a ton of people in the world, but most of the game's design is aimed at solo players thus making it play like a single player game.

     

    But it's okay. Soon enough (hopefully) ArcheAge will be released and us MMO players of olde will finally have something on the market more fitted to our tastes. :D

  5. Ugh did they make it worse AGAIN? The first time they messed with it, nobody asked them to and they just made a mess out of it. Now instead of fixing what they broke when they changed it, they decided to make it even worse. Ugh the way you guys had it originally was fine!!! For the love of Boba Fett, please bring back the grayed out buttons! :mad:

    Sure, being polite is often inefficient. If you favor efficiency over politeness, keep sending blind invites; I'm going to continue favoring politeness over efficiency.

     

    I agree with this guy. I never ever ever accept group invites if I don't get a whisper first. I know a lot of other people feel the same way. It's just common courtesy to talk to the person first before you group with them. That's probably a big part of your problem.

    Yep... and we have WoW to thank for starting that trend. The way things are nowadays, there's no more sense of accomplishment. It really takes away from the game for me. I miss earning my way through the world. I've even thought about reactivating my FFXI account, but I heard they've made that game more casual friendly too... Oh how I long for ArcheAge to come out. :(

  8. I've been running a lot of Underworld Trading Missions today, to try to work out if there was any particular benefits to running particular missions. In running 100 or so Grade 1 missions, I may have found an interesting pattern, as I've only recieved schematics from Moderate return missions (around 10% of the time on Moderate missions, 0% on other). Sometimes these have been on crit successes, sometimes not.

     

    Have others found this also ? Or just a statistical freak, and it's just 5% chance or so on any mission ?

     

    Obviously you get more bang for you buck in regards to the amount of mats, the higher grade the mission is. But it seems the lower grade the mission the more likely you are to crit on it (probably because it requires a lower skill level). However, I think that's just speculation and we may need to do more testing to find out for sure.

  9. Just wanted to chime in to this good discussion.

     

    1. Death penalties. IMO the death penalties in SWTOR are fine. The player actually has to make a decision: wait for the medical probe option, wait for rez from another player, or warp to closest med center.

     

    2. Exploration. I could do with a little more exploration, but they've got areas defined for reasons, and there is little wasted space, which I think is good use of resources. I will say, I have had little "Cool!" moments finding places that I missed while running through an area.

     

    3. Inter-dependence. The customizable gear in this game is awesome, and as a crafter, I'm looking to craft orange and exceptional gear because it gives the customer the freedom to enhance as they want. I've found it easier to sell empty modable gear, over gear that has its slots filled. I may like my jacket to have mods for endurance, while another player may prefer a mix. The only major issue i see here, is that the mods for these slots, minus augmentations, can either be purchased with credits or planet commendations. Theres no major difference between the mirror types, and what can be seen as an over-saturation of available items. I would like to see planet commendations used primarily for equipment and item boxes, and let cybertechs and artificers make some $ off selling useful mods.

     

    1. The fact that you have so many options just goes to show you how much of a lack of penalty there is. Ohhhh so you have to drop a few K to repair your stuff, big whoop. You pop up right in the same spot like nothing happened (unless you med center which people rarely do), no debuff, no exp loss, and ANYBODY can raise you. I really liked the way FFXI did their death penalty. Only certain classes could revive you (which helped make grouping so important), you lost XP, and if there was nobody to revive you you had to go back to your binding point, which is usually pretty far from where you just were. Death actually had meaning in that game and you actually tried to AVOID dying because of it, but in TOR it's just "whatevs."

     

    2. Your space argument doesn't make much sense. Having mountains all over the place that do nothing other than hinder my direction is a huge waste of space. Open spaces that I can actually explore are not a waste at all, since I have access to every inch of it. And open games like that still have plenty of meaningful content, they just don't restrict how you get to it. Which allows for even more of those "cool!" moments.

     

    3. Yes there's somewhat of an interdependence in crafting, but that's about it. I miss the days when there was an interdependence in the main aspects of gameplay like leveling, not just crafting. Most of this game can be completed solo no problem and that creates a community where nobody really gives a crap about the other players, just themselves. :(

  10. Yes I agree, MMOs these days are a shell of their former selves. But the MMOs of old wouldn't appeal to the largest population of current MMO players: the casuals. And since most companies care more about making as much money as they possibly can rather than capturing the essence that once made MMOs so special us old-schoolers, hardcores, and sandboxers get screwed. TOR is fun and I've enjoyed it more than most MMOs, but I still feel it's lacking a lot.

     

    For anyone else feeling like something is missing like the OP, I strongly urge you to check out ArcheAge. That game looks like just what the doctor ordered. :D

    I agree. I never saw the major appeal in WoW. With that being said, knowing what I know about WoW and it's expansions I probably would've liked Cata the best. But I'm one of those people who feels that WoW really dumbed down the MMO market. I haven't really liked any MMOs that I've tried since WoW came on the scene until this one. Even still I wish this game was a bit less like WoW. Soooo many instances ugh.

    I'm a Light Sided Bounty Hunter and I've really been enjoying playing that way. You won't miss out on anything by being light side that's for sure. A lot of my clients (quest givers) surprisingly react well to my light side choices too which I didn't expect. LS/DS mostly just seems to affect roleplaying and of course color crystals. So don't worry so much about which side you're on and just play how you enjoy.

  13. You will get a small bonus to tech crit chance from cunning. Aim will give you the crit chance and bonus damage/healing.

    Basically don't bother gearing for cunning but it can be worth it to pick up any cunning datacrons you come across for a little extra boost :p

     

    Yep there you have it. As far as gear goes, you're better of sticking with Aim because it affects tech damage as well as other stats. But a little extra cunning from datacrons makes a nice boost to your tech damage.

  14. It can very from server to server, but it will always be either a tank or healer that's the highest in demand. On average though it seems tanks are usually in the highest demand (and hardest to find) shortly followed by healers.
  15. I bind 5 keys on my mouse. IF your mouse driver/software allows you to emulate certain keys, go into the game configuration and key binding. Click on whichever function you want bound and then click the appropriate mouse button.

     

    I have a gaming mouse and had to go in and set it to emulat mouse buttons 3,4 and 5 to work properly in game.

     

    The problem is my mouse didn't come with any software. :(
