  1. I think if every MMO player put a year into a CoD/Battlefield, and every FPS player put a year into SWTOR/WOW, then there would be an uprising in the gaming community. But I think that the learning curve is intimidating when entering either genre and it leaves people ignorant and stuck in their ways. If you told a random FPS player that CoD has MMORPG elements in it they would tell you to shut the **** up. When you tell MMO players that the PvP needs more FPS elements they tell you to shut the **** the up. If only they knew lol.
  2. I dont understand it lol. MMO PvP is FPSs multiplayer essentially. CoD and Battlefield have had it right for years and they have millions upon millions of happy loyal fans. All I hear is how no MMO has gotten PvP just right. Well ****, is the model not just sitting there looking MMO devs in the face? Look at what CoD did. They took MMO aspects and put it in a FPS multi-player and its now the most successful game franchise every. Imagine what it would be like if there was a true marriage between the two. I dont know what will come first, CoD/Battlefield MMO or SWTOR/WOW with perks and killstreaks, but ill **** my self with joy for either one lol.
  3. The only reason the PvE gear progresses is that the NPCs progress. In PvP the goal is to progress ones skill not gear. Only when all play on a lvl field can anyone truly test their skill. When ppl talk about true PvPers they are talking about the ones that only care about testing their skill against others. If gear plays too much of a roll then the skill is not truly tested and the PvPer is left unsatisfied. The different skill between classes makes the battle more strategic, its adds another test of skill. The difference between classes give advantages and disadvantages alike. Better gear only gives an advantage.
  4. Exactly! I just started playing MMOs, and coming from FPSs, I could not believe that multi-player (PvP as you guys call it) had such gear advantages. I could not imagine playing CoD or Battlefield and having players that had weapons that were 10% better overall. Some weapons do 10% more damage but fire 10% slower. Your BM/Cent gear example would be like having a weapon that had 10% more damage and fired 10% faster. I think gear bonuses are fine, its like a perk system, but overall stat increases makes no sense in a PvP setting.
  5. I was a hardcore CoD player for a long time. One thing CoD got right was that even at lvl 1 you were given the tools to be successful. Was it a bit easier once you hit 50? Yes, but just a bit. At lvl 50 I had a few more tools in my bag, but I was not miles better because of it. In any multi-player games I think its important to make the difference between winning and losing 95% Skill and 5% gear. A fresh 50 does not have much of a chance against a fully geared BM, and the gear will play a bigger roll than it should imo. I have no problem giving a fresh 50 gear that will let them compete. If I PvP 20 hours a week am I any better than someone who plays 5 hours a week? Maybe I suck for 20 hours a week and the other guy just had a baby and can only play for 5 hours a week. In that 5 hours he could be the best on that server, why should he be punished? PvP gear should be cosmetic, it should be something that show prestige (CoD lol) and at most should have perks (Cod again like a set bonus. What fun is it winning a 1v1 or 1v2 when I know it was mostly my expertise stat and not my skill? I mean PvE gear only progressively ups the stats so you can successful take down progressively more difficult NPCs. In PvP players dont get progressively more difficult. why should my stats sky rocket?
  6. I have looked on this site for official news on this subject, and maybe I have missed it, but all I can find is the 1.2 vid. I utilized this google thing that the cool kids have been talking about and I found this. http://feature.mmosite.com/swtor/upcoming_1.2_update_in_swtor_and_beyond.shtml I dont know how accurate it is, but I guess they are dropping the bag system for BM gear. Valor rank will no longer unlock gear, but be used to unlock status items like mounts instead. BM gear will be able to be purchased with WZC (Im sure we have all noticed the 1000 WZ/1000 MC price for one BMT at the vendor) and a new Champion lvl set of gear will be able to be purchased with credits. It also says the new set of PVP gear will be able to be purchased with the new PVP currency, Ranked WZC. After reading the article I was left with a few questions. If they drop the bag system then what will we get for the daily and weekly PvP quests? Will it be WZC? BMT? It has to be something because 4000 WZCs to get one token is crazy. It takes about 13 hours to save up 1000/1000, so it would take over 240 hours to get a full set of BM lol. I would hope it would be 2 BMT for the weekly and 1000 WZC for the daily. If I can just buy my Champion set, and use my WZC on BM, then I think it would take just long enough to mean something without the process being a mind melting grind. (I want to say its 18 BMT and 600/600 to get a full set of BM) The above are just the first thoughts that came to mind after reading the article. The article went on to talk about the new medal system, vote to kick, and other PVP related topics. With the the link and my thoughts I was hoping to start some 1.2 PvP conversation.
  7. You brought up good points, but its still a real stretch imo. I mean they dropped the saber from Solo because it did not make sense, I would think the cape was dropped for the same reason. Comic book Lando only makes sense because so many ppl identified Lando as the Baron Admin from ESB. Like I pointed out to another poster, Lando had not been a smuggler for years at the point of ESB, and the cape was part of the Barons outfit. I also think anything from the OT out weighs any other form of SW. Did we ever see Lando wearing a cape after he was no longer the Baron Admin in the OT? The OT, comic books, fan fiction, novels, whatever form of SW you want to bring up, it still has to pass the common sense test. Why would a smuggler wear a cape? You could say SWTOR is set so far before the OT that maybe it was just a thing back then, but why? A cape is a status symbol, and is usually a part of a set formal outfit. What smuggler in their right mind would try to draw attention to them selves? It just does not make sense lol. Super heros, royalty, magicians, and smugglers wear capes.... Wait... What? One of those dont fit lol. Shut your eyes and imagine a smuggler.... Is he or she wearing a cape? COMON PEOPLE!!!
  8. I was gonna use a bunch of sarcasm to let you know how wrong you are, but ill just use the facts. Every picture of Lando in a cape was when Lando was the Baron Administrator of Cloud City. Unlike smugglers, many of Baron have wore capes lol. Smugglers are the type that do not appreciate attention being drawn to them. I can not think of a more attention grabbing piece of attire than a cape. If you want to draw from the OT then lets take a look at the scenes from Mos Eisley. In a spaceport full of smugglers, not a single person was rocking anything that could even be mistaken for a cape.... or an oversized hat that could pass for a gag prop. Im not gonna pretend I knew this next part, but the cape was actually a part of an outfit that any Baron Administrator would ware. Thanks wookieepedia lol Also, what did Lando wear once he was no longer the Baron Administrator? http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/galleries/2010/Review_LandoCalrissianSmuggler/Review_LandoCalrissianSmuggler_still.jpg If you were not so sarcastic then I would not of enjoyed this nearly as much ;]
  9. I want to play a smuggler so bad, but it will never happen. The gear looks so incredibly bad lol. Why not make it like the smug gear from the cinematic? The hat he wore looked great, but no, Bioware opted for something from a cartoon. The Jedi have a few different robes, the Trooper a few sets of armor, and the smug should have a few sets of trench coats. The smug gear is just all over the place. I mean a cape? Really? Smugglers wear capes? and novelty sized hats? What in the ***** were they thinking?
  10. So I have learned that as a DPS I should focus on trash, then strong, elite, and so on. Im not sure though on how to work with the other DPS in the group. Should each DPS focus on different trash, or the same target all the time? I guess that I should point out that Im a melee DPS, and any other thoughts on melee DPSing would be appreciated.
  11. Sorry I couldn't understand you because as soon as I saw you replied to my post, I was so consumed with jealousy because Im not getting laid by your hot wife. See, this is how interweb relations should be. Witty banter, no need to act like a pompous d**k, a wanna be bad a#$, or a self conscious blow hard that must let people know he in fact gets laid. Im just playing, but you did miss the point of my post. Im not trying to say that Im tough.
  12. I have tried so hard to figure this out via google, but I have failed! How do you get unassembled Rakata tokens? I forget what gear set requires tokens and crystals, but how do you get those tokens and crystals? Is it all dropped from bosses in flashpoints and operations? Or is there a bag system like PVP? How good is Battlemaster gear when doing Nightmare Modes? I know the bonus for the set only helps during PVP, but it seems the PVE endgame gear does not give much of a bonus. Can the hardest of PVE endgame content be done successfully in Battlemaster gear? Does the endgame gear have an augment slot? I was thinking that if you only need 4/5 to get a set bonus, why not just transfer the modifications of an ugly piece to a sweet looking piece of orange gear? (I dont want to wear the silly looking hat damn it!) Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. Thanks to everyone for the answering those questions. Huge help!
  14. If an instance has 2 Elites and 3 Strong, then a single attack each will gain all the aggro needed from the 2 Elites (because no one attacked them but me) Then all my focus should then turn to the Strongs. Still keeping a watchful eye on the Elites for casting and accidental aggro generated by my party. Do the Elites take into account what is being done to there buddies, or just what damage they are taking on? I thought Modern Warfare was hectic lol. Thank you for taking the time to answer those questions in you last post. I never new the only difference between strong and elite was HP most of the time.
  15. Im new to MMOs and just learning the lingo has been crazy lol. I have read more than a few tanking guides, but I still have a few questions. Any feedback would be appreciated. 1) In multi mob situations who should I target first to set off the pull? Always the strongest not CCed? (I know to pull the pat if the pat will not pull the mob/mobs) 2) Does my highest damaged attack give me the most aggro? Will any of my attacks = my taunt as far as drawing aggro? Is there a way to tell by looking at attack stats what the aggro effect will be? 3) Once the mobs are pulled who takes priority? Weak, Standard, Strong, Elite, Champion? I know a DPS would go weak to Champion, but should I not go Champion to Weak as a Tank? 4) Im a BH powertech, and it seems that all my high damage attacks have AoE. I find my self knocking off the CC a lot. What is the best way to keep aggro (assuming high damage = high aggro) and not off set the CC? I really hate it because the AoE lets me draw aggro from most of the mobs at one time. 5) I have read that in a single target instances a tank should Pull with highest aggro attack, then use attacks that buff self and party, then attacks that debuff the mob, and disrupting mob attacks take priority when necessary. Does this stand true in Swtor? Most of what I read came from WOW guides. Also. how do I know if a mob is about to do a stun or heal? I know thats a lot of questions for one thread, any help would be greatly appreciated. If you know of a Swtor tanking guide in the forum let me know. I checked in the search and found nothing. Also throw in any other tips if you like.
  16. Basically Im wondering if crafting a saber will ever follow the prefix path? It looks like the hilt is the body of the lightsaber, but I just found out that the hilt is not directly equipped, so it cant be. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. Wow lol, I read the guide and thought "A hilt is equipped to you through a saber, therefore is equipped to your character" Im a fool lol. I thought they meant things not equipped to you, like stuff for your ship, followed the linear path. Thanks, I didnt think that through at all.
  18. I RE a blue Might Hilt and got the purple mat. The purple mat lets me craft an "Advanced Might Hilt" but there is no prefix, and all though it ups the rating by 4, it adds no new stat. It does not add critical, overkill, or redoubt. Why did the blue mat not have a tier 1 prefix to start with? Why does the purple not have a tier 2? and why is the purple called advance and not a artifact? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry, first time crafting, first MMO, its all very overwhelming lol. Also, ive been reading some of the posts about how crafting is not worth it. What about Artifice? Is there a market for lightsabers? Will I spend millions of credits crafting sabers that are only slightly better than ones found in heroics or PVP? I checked the Trade Network for saber related mats and found absolutely nothing.
