  1. Hey everyone! Fenaqua here just giving a couple of Updates! The Seventh Legion has grown in the past few weeks, and we're ecstatic to have met all our new friends! New guild mates and old are teaming up even more often now to run Flashpoints, Operations, Level together and start new Roleplaying stories! We've got lots of people hitting 55 lately and can't wait to get them ready for the latest Operations! In addition to our RP assignments created by the officers to be run by an Intrepid team of legionnaires, we will be starting a weekly Roleplay briefing session to express the team effort of the Legion In Character as well as Out! Thanks so much for your interest, and I hope you head to our website, apply and see us in game very soon!
  2. A reminder for anyone interested, this event will be starting one hour from now, at 8 pm eastern! We'll be meeting in the western gardens of the Senate Plaza on Coruscant. If you need directions, feel free to whisper me in game!
  3. This coming Tuesday, March 12th, at 8 pm EST I will be holding a Roleplaying event with which has been a lot of fun in the past. Karrala, a Jedi Master, scholar and teacher, will be on Coruscant to offer a Class from a Jedi's perspective to any interested in learning or open mindedness. We will be meeting in the Senate gardens, just outside the entrance to the Tower proper. While civil debate is a must, dissenting views and opinions are welcomed. This class is not a guild event. There will be no active recruitment, and those in guilds are welcome to come have fun right alongside those without! This event can be a way to meet other RPers, have meaningful interaction outside a cantina setting, gain insight into your own or other characters, or even see what all this 'Roleplay' business is about in the first place! Past events [on Tython] Have covered topics such as lightsaber forms, the Jedi Code and the make up of the republic government. This tuesday's class will begin with a few opening remarks from Karrala on the Treaty of Coruscant after which she will subside into a role as moderator for a class discussion consisting of it's effect on the Galactic Republic. With good turn out and feedback, I hope to run these types of events every other week covering a range of topics. The best way to contact me with questions, concerns or for clarification, will be right here or by dropping me a line in game. My primary characters are listed below, with Ts'val my main. For now though, thank you for reading and I hope to see you on Tuesday!
  4. Probably the best thing you can do to get into regular RP is get active in the community OOCly. Whatever your servers custom channel is [Ebon Hawk has OOC for example] is the best way to do this. While they're great for finding others to RP with, it helps if you can just chat and get to know some of your fellow players. As far as Random RP, just don't be afraid to seize the initiative. If you see someone walking, emoting or chatting with another player, strike up a conversation! It's very rare you'll be flat out turned away so long as you observe the basic tenets of RPing! It can be nerve wracking diving into a new situation, but whats the worst that can happen? Anyone who would be a jerk to you isn't worth the thought or effort anyway!
  5. Most of this has been touched upon, but I'd like to throw in my own two cents. World RP can be two things depending on which side of the RP you are on: The first is stumbling across people RPing. When you come across them it may seem like they had always been there or that they mysteriously came together. The second is exactly the same as the first, except those same people most likely have decided to meet up at a specific place and time. Whether they did so because of a calendered event, chatting in OOC or even general is really immaterial. Because there are so many Non-RPers on the RP servers, there are really only three things that you can do (and that you should look for) when you are interested in truly random RP. LFG Comment This one isn't so much random as an easy way to tell if someone is up for RP. Emotes and say. I recommend RPers change the color of Say to make it easier to spot when General is flying by fast and furious. This is tough if you're not in the same place for a while because you can only see Emote/say if you are close. No one likes spam. Walking. By far the easiest way to tell a RPer is by seeing a character strolling along. If you spot a character walking, chat them up; it's why they're doing it. What am I trying to say? Can RP happen spontaneously? Sure. Should you expect it too consistently? Not in my opinion. Join whatever your Server's equivalent of Ebon Hawk's OOC channel is. Inform people that you're going to be in a certain place and they should feel free to join you. If that continues to fail you should look into changing servers.
  6. Full disclosure: I read the first post and only skimmed the first page of responses. Here's what I assume you've been told and so I'll skip. The; It's a RP server, if you don't like it ****. The; Moody teenager is moody. The; u iz Trull lulz. To be perfectly honest, my first attempt at a jedi turned out way more serious than I intended. She wasn't standing in the corner constantly saying how -dark- she was, but still. I can totally see how it's easy to take a left turn from serenity and end up in troubled ne'er do well land; Especially for an inexperienced RPer/young person. If you're a RPer yourself, keep moving along if it bothers you till you find some characters you can stomach. I really don't know how RPers can pass such serious judgements on our fellows. There's not a hell of a lot of us in proportion to the rest of the in game community to begin with after all. If you're not, A) You really have no right to judge at all, but in any event B) Just ignore it and be respectful of their choice of playstyle. (And yes, I know you did said you did OP, that's just more of a general statement of courtesy)
  7. I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough...
  8. I see it like this: If someone has a legitimate disagreement with someone they will take it to tells should things get heated. If a person does not, than it means they are either clueless or an attention...let's say...monger. When a person, and I can't stress this enough, is constantly involved in/inciting conflict(drama) they deserve to be shunned by the rest of the community. It's one thing to have an opinion, it is another to declare that another point of view is 'dumb' or that the other player 'clearly doesn't understand logic.' To deal with it, usually I'll tune out (read: switch chat tabs). However if the problem persists I usually try to make a short, neutral yet salient remark reminding people that they are not only playing a game, but are using essentially an instant chat. That really only works once everyone else on the channel is sick of hearing the back and forth though. I have one person on permanent ignore, and anyone who enables them gets put on for a short time. One person can't argue with themselves I really wish people could just disengage. I liked the City of Heroes chat channels. Created by a player(Admin) who could change settings and appoint mods capable of silencing, banning or giving warnings to players from a position of strength.
  9. I'd love to see a couple of RP Huttball teams at some point. Rotworms FTW!
  10. As to what server to start on, I really can't help you. Each of the RP servers have there pros and cons and various levels of activity. I've had a good experience on Ebon Hawk, but I'm sure the other servers can be equally interesting. Finding Roleplay can still be difficult. The surest way is to start it yourself, but joining a channel or guild on whichever server you pick can speed things along as well. How high you need to progress with your character really depends on the type of RP you're looking for. If you're just looking for some Cantina friends, you really just need to get to the Fleet/Dromand Kaas. You don't even need to go past level 2 for that (as a SW, BH/IA can do it pretty much from 1) if you know where to find the shuttle. After that it's really just a matter of leveling to get any gear you want. If mission RP or Storylines are more your thing you'll probably need to stay leveled with a group. Really as long as you put yourself out there you're sure to find someone willing to play along eventually.
  11. Kaysaria, for my Sith Inquisitor Zaire Props if you can appreciate the allusion.
  12. I don't know if it would 'ruin' the community or not, but if something as complicated as a Dungeon Finder is added before anything is done to help the Roleplaying community I'll cancel my Subscription on the spot.
  13. Yep. Gotta keep things short and sweet. Not sure the exact character limit, but it's about two paragraphs.
  14. Only 'ppl' I see are those playing the game. And the only ones of them with anything ground-breakingly negative to say are trolling. Also, while I do recognize there are things which can be added to/improved upon, I do think the game is awEsome.
  15. Statistically speaking women make up about 30% of the General Gaming community. Most of the female players of MMO's I've known typically play as male characters/pass themselves off as men to avoid just such situations. Internet gremlins (read Trolls) have the maturity of a 6 year old. I'm actually pretty surprised you'd use any kind of Voice service at all. Did you stop or do you still muddle though the weirdos?
  16. There are currently not. BW has said they are 'working on it.' What that means I leave up to you.
  17. While this may not be something you do, that is something I see very regularly. Particularly with the Heroics.
  18. An in game channel could be very useful. Aside from the obvious coordination of current Pen Pals, it would be an ideal place to direct potential RPers/PPs without sending them out of the game. I find myself more willing to write to those who have given a bit of info on their characters; so here is a bit about my two characters currently involved in the Ring now that I have them more thought out. Karrala is a nerdy Jedi Padawan more interested in history than learning martial skills. Zavo'eva, a Pureblood Sith warrior, is beginning to question just how superior her blood makes her.
  19. As I see it, General is and should be OOC. I'll occasionally see an IC LFM call which can be fun, but using it for heavy roleplay would A) Marginalize possible budding RPers and B) Move way too fast to be used by more than a handful of people (especially in the heavily populated zones). As far as brackets go, aside from general and similar channels, I use them all the time when OOC. It lets people know that I'm willing to RP with them if they're interested and cuts confusion that may happen if I stop and start using brackets in the middle of a group mission. If we had a bio space in game to advertise the fact that 'Yes, I'm a RPer on a RP server' then I would probably only use brackets when actually involved in RP. As it stands I must simply use my Brackets unashamedly.
  20. I don't know how official they are but so far I've run across both the 'OOC' and 'RP' channels. They seem populated, but quiet. I've been playing Zavo'eva, a Pureblooded Sith dedicated to the Empire.
  21. RP servers have no name enforcement besides the standard filter. So just like your name can't be a curse, it also can't be Obi'wan, Vader etc. If you want to mess with the name to beat the filter, it won't be changed. That said, most people on said RP server will not be amused.
  22. I'm not sure about cross faction mail, however apparently the Nar Shadda GTN is cross faction. I'd try putting it up for sale there.
  23. Welcome! The goal of this thread is to introduce players curious about Roleplaying in an MMO to the basic rules and types. Whether you are completely new to RP, need a bit of a refresher after a long hiatus, or just want to clarify a specific term, it is my hope that you will find this guide both helpful and entertaining. To begin, I’d like to start by defining roleplay (RP). At its core, RP is about stepping not only into the shoes of your character but through them, into the universe which they inhabit. (What this means to you as a player can be rather more than you might expect, but we’ll get to that later.) Your character becomes an extension of yourself through which you can enter the fictitious universe of (in this case) Star Wars. Pretending you’re a dreamy eyed Jedi or a power-mad Sith is all well and good, but how does it actually work in an MMO? To start, any potential RPer should be familiar with a few basic terms. IC and OOC are big ones meaning, respectively, In Character and Out of Character. These two terms express anything you type while in game. OOC is generally noted using brackets of some kind around the text or an ‘OOC:’ tag preceding. This is how it may look in an in game conversation between Wally and Sammy: Wally: Those Jedi scum didn’t stand a chance! Sammy: Of course, my lord, No one can stand against your power! Sammy: ((Even though you were killed like 8 times!)) Wally: OOC: lol ikr? I keep getting awful lag spikes… Even without any kind of notation it is fair to say that whenever someone is discussing game mechanics, they are speaking out of character. There are multiple styles of RP, none of which are inherently the ‘right’ or ‘best’ way to RP. While ‘Social RP’ is most likely the most visible, it is not the entirety. Social RPers are those who are perfectly happy relaxing or networking IC in a Cantina or unused room somewhere. Social RP can be a great way to get a feel for your character or have them make some friends (or enemies!). Mission RP is another popular form of RP. This form involves completing in game missions IC. This can mean anything from the occasional quip about a fear of caves to halting the mission to discuss the plan of attack or motive of the mission giver. RP PvP, as you might expect, revolves around IC Player versus Player combat. I would suggest anyone new to Roleplay hold off on this type until you have a better grasp of both RP and game mechanics as it can otherwise quickly get confusing. The final type of RP I’d like to touch on is ERP. If you travel in RP circles you will see this term a lot. Standing for Erotic Roleplay, it tends to be used derogatorily but in truth can mean anything from lecherism to an IC quickie to seeing your characters mature relationships through. What RP means to you as a RPer can mean many different things. Often people use terms such as ‘Light RP’ or ‘Heavy RP’ to refer to their commitment to their characters. Your heavy RP may be the next persons Medium. In general however Light RPers only do so when someone else initiates conversation. They also tend to rely heavily on OOC chat. Heavy RPers can be those who believe in full immersion. That is, never (or very rarely) breaking character with OOC chat. Heavy RPers tend to find ways to express game mechanics IC and are positive of their characters personality and history. Where you fall between those two levels is entirely up to you. As I have endeavored to express there is no ‘right’ way to RP. Find something that works for you and stick with it. RP can be a fun and rewarding experience if given half a chance. While many RPers are fun loving, mature people, there are some which will inevitably detract from your enjoyment of the game. Just remember that while being an IC *** is ok and perhaps encouraged, the same does not extend to OOC. Other characters are controlled by players with just as much right to their stories as you are to yours. If you encounter someone like this your best course of action is usually simply to move on. In closing I would simply like to thank you for reading this article and remind you that the best way to find RP is to start RP, people will join in if they know you’re down for it!
  24. Sent one so far, nothing received yet though. Mine seemed to go through fine, but the character limit was less than I was expecting! I also just created Zavo'eva a Pureblood Sith warrior who I plan on using quite a bit. She's usually pretty calm(For a Sith!) but is consumed by a frenzy in battle.
