  1. Knowledge is Power, ladies and gentlemen. Which is why you should expand your pool of knowledge by peering into the continued works of Kilarin! Delve deep enough into either his DeviantArt or his Tumblr pages, and you may find hidden secrets. Such as this fine piece! http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/197/6/9/knowledge_is_power_by_tanathiel-d6douyv.jpg
  2. Here we have another piece, this time featuring a Zeison Sha warrior! (I confess, this one has been up on Kil's gallery for awhile. I didn't realize until recently that it was in the Star Wars universe, however.) In any case! Ladies and gentlemen -- Thunderclap! http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/176/1/5/thunderclap_by_tanathiel-d6aez79.jpg
  3. Kil was indeed still taking commissions the last I had checked! He's got a lot on his plate at the moment, so I'm not certain whether or not he is in a position to take requests, however I wouldn't take my word for it if I were you. The easiest way to find out what Kil is up to is ask him yourself; which you can do through his DeviantArt page: http://tanathiel.deviantart.com/ It's important to note that Kil is no-longer subscribed to The Old Republic so he can't be here to comment on his thread, however I just heard from him today through my guild site. He is very much still active. Also! In addition to his DeviantArt page, Kil has a Tumblr page which can be found here: http://kil-art.tumblr.com/
  4. Been some time, still, mates! If you check out Kil's Deviant Art page, you'll see he's got quite a lot going for him. -- which, though I admit I assume -- is likely why we haven't seen him around the forums in quite some time. That being said, he still finds the time to work on commissions in addition to the other things he has on his plate. Which brings us to this fine piece, called "Triumph" for obvious reasons. http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2013/146/1/b/triumph_by_tanathiel-d66omf6.jpg Ogle in wonder my fellow-forum goers! And be sure to check out Kil's Deviant Art page under the user name Tanathiel. There are many more works not restricted to the Star Wars universe to be found.
  5. Here we are again, mates, another work from Kil. This one is a little bit special, and was a commissioner's request for a Christmas present. "You and Me" ~ By Tanathiel -- featuring the characters Devlo'nir (Zabrak, Left) and Hananja (Mirialan, Right). http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/362/8/6/you_and_me_by_tanathiel-d5pfqev.jpg Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, mates. And as always, you can view these and other works by Kil at his DeviantArt page. http://tanathiel.deviantart.com/
  6. Hello again, eager viewers! Today I bring you yet another commission completed by Kil! This one's titled "A Game of Tag" and features the commissioner's character Vecks Omen. http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/350/8/5/game_of_tag_by_tanathiel-d5o6cqm.jpg You can also find this, and other works by Kil (some SW:TOR related and some not) on his deviantart page: http://tanathiel.deviantart.com/ Excellent work again, Kil!
  7. Nah, it's a Marik Vash thing. [Link] [Link] Ahem. Shameless self-advertising aside, however. I honestly don't know where the popularity of Cathar comes from. I mean, I like 'em well enough -- but there's no real reason I could give as to why except for that it fits my characters' personalities. Back when I made my characters before launch I hardly saw mention of the Cathar. I only knew two other people besides myself that had characters that were Cathar. And as for it being a KoTOR thing. It's possible. Personally, though, I didn't even know Juhani was a Cathar until I started researching the Cathar for my character Marik. To answer the original question for which this thread was made, however. There is no clear answer, unfortunately. The only thing we know is that it's going to be "soon". Back in E3 when they announced their teaser trailer it was under the caption of things coming in this year. However, unless they manage to sneak in a couple of patches in the next twenty-seven days I'd say we probably wont see Cathar until after the the new-year. I can't say I don't want them sooner as opposed to later, but at the same time I'd rather them come out as close to perfect as they can rather than be unfinished. We'll just have to wait and keep our ears to the ground. Rest assured, when there is any news to be had, it'll come from BioWare directly and there'll be no question. In the meantime, however, everything floating around is pure speculation.
  8. Well, let's see here... I've got a few pictures I've drawn myself. Allow me to informally introduce you all to a couple of my long-time characters: Captain Marik, "Mar", Vash [Link] and Inarri, "Kitten", Vash. [Link] This Cathar duo's been running around for quite some time... Since back before launch, even. "The Dusty Dewback" RP, The "Trooper Boot Camp", "The Temple Grounds"... Gotta say, they've come quite a ways from those two sketches up there of mine; thanks to more than a few very friendly local SW:TOR artists:
  9. Here we go, mates! Again, since Kil can't be here himself, I'm taking the liberty of posting these here for you all to see. Hope you don't mind, Kil! http://th06.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2012/237/d/e/commission___last_council_by_tanathiel-d56jpmn.jpg http://th08.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/278/c/1/you_shall_not_pass_by_tanathiel-d5guaex.jpg http://th04.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2012/333/8/0/lifeweb_by_tanathiel-d5migky.jpg (Excellent work again, Kil!) And again, Kil's deviantart page is http://tanathiel.deviantart.com/ He'll probably keep you more up-to-date than I can, but I'll keep posting these every now and then!
  10. I understand. Unfortunately, the in-game representation of my main character doesn't accurately represent what he's supposed to look like. The species, for that matter, isn't even the same. As friendly advice, it might help you to better specify what kind of requests you're interested in for the future. TOR has a rather extensive RP community, and I assure you that my character sheet is modest compared to many of those I've seen. Anyway. If you're still interested, I do have some in-game characters that are accurately represented. As the artist, you of course have liberties as to what to do in the way of pose and such. ^^ If you decide to do it, of course. And thanks for the consideration, mate.
  11. Very nicely done! Glad to see we're still getting talented artists in the community following launch. ^^ If you're interested, Ilayas, I'd love to see what you could work up of my Smuggler.
  12. And more than likely they will - at least the ones that are near-Human. Look forward to those, mate. They're coming. Cathar are merely the very first.
  13. I disagree. Cathar are a very logical choice for a playable species. They are one of the most asked after species on the forums. They've been a part of the Star Wars extended universe for years; the first time the species was identified as being Cathar was in the year 1994. In comparison, species like the Chiss - which are extremely popular do to such things as the Thrawn trilogy - had their first appearance only three years early in 1991. And species like the Sith (Purebloods), - while they might have had earlier appearances that I simply cannot find - the earliest I find mention of them is in the year 1996. Fans of the Star Wars universe were ecstatic when BioWare announced these species as playable. What's more, this is only the first species BioWare is adding to the game. It is by no means the last. Further more, the announcement of playable Cathar was only a teaser of the content to come this year. There might be even more species in store to become playable this year as well, if not at the same time as Cathar. So the addition of Cathar should, by no means, be a disappointment. Even to the people that don't want to play them. To those people, it is confirmation that more species are coming to SW:TOR. What's more, people need to stop asking for species that are never - ever - going to happen because of the restrictions caused by the way the game works. Species like Ithorian and Jawa will never become playable. For one thing, Ithorians can't speak basic. For another, the physical build of both the Jawa and the Ithorians would mean that they would need entirely original appearances for gear that already exists in the game. They can't wear the things Humans or Human-like species do. And then species like Rodians and Sullustans are also unlikely. Rodians and Sullustans are extremely alien for Humanoid species. Their facial appearances alone make them unlikely candidates. Unless the species is a near-Human I wouldn't count on them being added. What's more, Sullustans are a very in-diverse species. Every single Sullustan that has appeared in canon has looked exactly the same as any other Sullustan. They aren't a species that could be readily added to an RPG - a game genre where character customization and uniqueness has become key. Species like Voss are also unlikely in my mind. The species and the planet they live on (of the same name) didn't even exist until BioWare created them for SW:TOR. There are a multitude of other, iconic species that fit the criteria set forth by BioWare for playable species that could be added. To compile a small list: Nautolan, Togruta, Chagrian, Devaronian, Nikto, Duros, and Iktotchi. All of these species fit BioWare's criteria, and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them were added in the future. Again, Cathar are just the first. News of their addition should be exciting for everyone; it means there will be ever more species to come. Complaining isn't going to change anything here. Instead, be happy for the people that wanted Cathar and look forward to the addition of more species in the future.
  14. If you say so I'll take your word for it. I've never met a Tradoshan that spoke Basic, but if they are capable of speaking the language fluently then that does change things a bit for them. However, that does not change the case for Wookiees. Wookiees are incapable of speaking Basic. Their vocal structure doesn't allow for it.
  15. Cathar have been around for a long time, mate. They've been popular for a long time. And just because Cathar are being added doesn't mean other species won't be added. Quite the opposite, in fact. No amount of complaining or arguing is going to change the fact that Cathar are making it into the game. It's best for everyone if you just be happy for the people that wanted it and look forward to the future. However, many of the species you mention will likely never be added as playable because they do not fit into the criteria BioWare set forth a long time ago as to what decides if a species can be playable or not. Wookiees and Trandoshans will never happen. Ever. Period. They can't speak basic, which means they can't be player characters. To my knowledge, Selkath also can't speak basic which rules them out. Rodians, Sullustans, and Kel Dor are possible, but unlikely. To my knowledge, Rodians can't speak basic. Even if they can, however, they are a bit too alien to fit in the criteria. Pretty much, if they don't more or less look like Humans they were ruled out. I've never met a Sullustan that spoke Basic. Even if they can, they aren't a very diverse species. They don't allow for much customization as they all look pretty much the same. Kel Dor are a neat species. I like them, and lots of people want them. However, they are a very alien species. They can't take off their masks in environments with oxygen: it's toxic to them. That makes the romances difficult. Also, they aren't the most diversified species. All of the Kel Dor I've seen look the same; which would make customization just as hard as the Sullustan. Nautolan and Togruta, however, are in my opinion very likely additions. They fit all of the criteria. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the next species added to the game. So just be patient. Cathar is the very first species being added. Not the only species being added.
  16. Cats used to be worshiped by the Egyptians. They've never forgotten this. Now they shall have their revenge!
  17. Not that it's canon or anything, though I am rather meticulous with sticking within the possibilities of lore, my fanfiction has two Cathar that are Mandalorian. The main character and his father, in point of fact and I find it fits in the lore rather well. Bit of a history lesson coming up. Might be some spoilers to the KoTOR games, though there shouldn't be any details about TOR given away. Three hundred years ago, the Mandalorians under Exar Kun sacked the planet Cathar (along with nearly all of the rest of the galaxy) and nearly wiped out the Cathar species. ("They didn't do a good enough job!", says Caspian_Rho! ) Following the end of the Mandalorian wars, the refugees of the Cathar species dispersed across the galaxy and began to colonize other planets. Eventually, the galaxy's Cathar population was pulled from the brink of extinction. Also following the Mandalorian wars, however, the Mandalorian clans were scattered across the galaxy - a shell of what they had once been. It wouldn't be until the rise of the Canderous Ordo, otherwise known as Mandalore the Preserver, that the Mandalorian clans would begin to reform and regain their honor. Thus the newly reformed Mandalorians gathered under the banner of Clan Ordo. At the behest of Revan - to whom Canderous was a companion and friend of during the Jedi Civil War - Canderous refocused the purpose of the Mandalorians away from conquering the Republic and instead towards protecting it from the approaching darkness that would be the Sith Empire we currently see in TOR. Of course, in the three hundred year span that separates KoTOR and SW:TOR, Canderous' Human lifespan would have come to an end. However, for the three hundred years the Mandalorians continued to follow the teachings of Mandalore the Preserver and uphold the banner of Clan Ordo. There would not be another Mandalore until the rise of Mandalore the Lesser just before the return of the Sith Empire. When Mandalore the Lesser - the puppet Mandalore controlled by the Sith Empire - came to the stage and proclaimed himself the new Mandalore, there were those who resisted his call - staying true to the teachings of Clan Ordo. What would follow would be a type of civil war between the two Mandalorian Clans known as the Crusader's Schism. Eventually, the death of Mandalore the Lesser would lead to the rise of Mandalore the Vindicated: the Mandalore which is in TOR currently. Eventually, the Crusader's Schism would fail and be quelled by Mandalore the Vindicated; the last of the rebellion either killed, converted, or sent into hiding across the galaxy. Therefore the Mandalorian Clan currently allied to the Sith Empire is not the same Mandalorian Clan that fought against the Republic during the Mandalorian Wars. Where all this comes into play is simple. Characters loyal to the Republic that are Mandalorian or are of Mandalorian descent could be of the remnant Crusader's Schism: those still loyal to Clan Ordo (as my two characters are). When it comes to the Empire-aligned Mandalorians - specifically in the case of potential Cathar Bounty Hunters - they are not the same Mandalorians that sacked Cathar three hundred years ago. What's more, three hundred years is a long time for a grudge to be held. There are no Mandalorians left alive today that were a part of the Mandalorian Wars. It wouldn't be that hard to imagine a Cathar having no qualms with the Mandalorian clans for something that happened so long ago. And going even farther, there are potentially descendants of the Cathar that colonized other planets following the Mandalorian Wars that don't even know about the wars or the Mandalorian sacking of Cathar.
  18. Since Kil has been unable to do this himself, I'll go ahead and post this here for you, mates! Another commission, this time of a Smuggler/Arms Dealer. Enjoy! http://th09.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2012/237/7/f/commission___the_dealer_by_tanathiel-d51suho.jpg
  19. Funny, something tells me you'd get along well with a certain character of mine... Anyway. No worries, Luni. I'm not expecting you to make any exceptions or anything. But I didn't figure it'd hurt to share my character if you gave me the permission. If nothin' else but for viewing. I like to get some light from outside of my guild shined on my characters every now and then. So, without further adieu, here's my Cathar Smuggler, Captain Marik Vash. (I was a Cathar before they were cool. ) Hope you enjoy the read, Luni! It's a long one.
  20. See the kind of results you get when you petition, people?
  21. Thank you for your support. Indeed, but this thread was created as a suggestion thread to bring the attention to BioWare of the desire and demand for the Cathar species to be added as playable in the future, not so much to discuss what other species are wanted. Please don't direct attention away from it; the threads don't have the same purpose.
  22. Don't feed a troll... Cathar have existed long before BioWare's Juhani. They were first identified as being Cathar in Dark Horse comics in the year 1994, but have canonical appearances slotted as early as 1978. What's more, there are at least two or three distinct types of Cathar in the Star Wars universe: One being the Mainline species that are the most cat-like in appearance, and then you have the Subspecies which are distinctly more Human-like (see my character pics). The addition of nearly ANY species as playable would increase the game's species diversity. And Cathar are are among the most alien species that still fits into BioWare's proposed criteria for playable species. Their addition to the game would only strengthen it. Further more, if you don't want to play a Cathar, you don't have to. It's not like you don't already have to deal with them being in the game what with all the NPCs - which includes Aric Jorgan: a significant Companion Character for the Trooper Storyline from the Starter Planet Ord Mantell. So their addition as playable wouldn't be any inconvenience to those that don't like the species.
  23. Definitely got my support and signature. As I've said before and I'll say again: I've been playing my Smuggler since Early Access. I would delete my smuggler in a heartbeat - no hesitation - to remake him as a Cathar if they became playable. X: Captain Marik Vash__ [Link] [Link] [Link}
