  1. What people fail to realize is if a game is well-made, it will garner support. No amount of negativity will dissuade players from supporting a product or service that is enjoyable. These mergers mean absolutely nothing to the gameplay other than there will be more active servers, and as a mostly solo player with a few random groupings a day, I look forward to seeing a ton more people around. Trust me when I say that it's never too late to do something positive for a game's community, it can only be too late to fix the product. And this product is stellar. I always kinda knew of this game but I am not a big Star Wars fan. My daughter was watching youtube videos back in the Spring, and she is a fan. She stumbled upon some videos by Stworista and asked if I'd pay for her to play it. I did and gave her some extra money to spend here and there. She came to me a few weeks ago and remarked in passing while talking about this game that she's like to play with people she actually knew. So I DLed a few days later, tried for four days, subbed and got both of us some CC. Then I recommended the game to several of my buddies, bringing in more people she knew. I understand that criticism is borne of care, so keep it up. Just try to be more substantive instead of basing said criticism on intangibles.
  2. As a new player, I've sank more money into this game for my daughter and I in the last two weeks than I did in about 6 months of WoW. I believe strongly that you must support things you like or they will go away and I practice this too. I get paid again Friday, and I plan on spending the same amount as I did my first initial cash dump for the both of us. Also, I brought along a few friends, two of which subbed and spent addition money on this game after trying it out. This game is impressive as heck with the storytelling. It highlights the RPG part of MMORPG.
  3. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaigns. I also fully understand why some companions should act against the player, even the romanced companions. However, this should be based on player choices and interactions. I want the companions to behave like they have their own personality instead of there at my whim. If I, as the player, give my loved one a valid and substantial reason to betray me, they should. If I cause their deaths, they should die. But it should not be an unavoidable scripted event.
  4. Never quite understood how having an opinion that is supportive of something makes one a "white knight". That term was originally used to describe what people refer to now as "good guys" because of their approach to women. Like I've stated, I'm a very new player that has supported this game because, gasp, it's fun. The server merges are needed in my view based on commentaries by staples of this game's community that I've watched and heard on youtube. This is only a good thing. Why criticize this, and from what I read here the only criticism is it came later than it should have, when there are actual gameplay areas that deserve such boisterous voices? I think what most people don't understand is criticism comes from a caring place. Apathy is the death of anything, but criticism is borne of love. I think that is a unifying factor amongst naysayers and proponents on any issue imaginable. The real issue is ad hominem. When anyone takes an issue at hand, any issue, and fails to attack it but instead goes after the person with the opposing view, that person has lost all credibility in the debate. So these little labels thrown at people only disservice those that use them. Those labels also don't cut through substance, aren't witty, certainly aren't original, and obfuscates valid points.
  5. I dunno about horses leaving, but my daughter started in the Spring, brought me into it 2 weeks ago, and I have several friends that are trying the f2p out while two subbed. This game is very solid for casuals and more dedicated players familiar with the holy trinity of classes and themepark MMOs, and the f2p is fairly generous. Took me four days to decide to sub and buy my daughter $60 worth of cc and myself $20. Some of those I brought to the game will more than likely sub, while the two that subbed have already sank additional cash into the game. What I think makes this game fun is the ability to make characters aesthetically any way you choose. Want a cyborg force user? Great! Lots of option for those with item prices and rarity that makes that option, and other options, attainable. Rarer item sets are a long term goal that any MMO player can appreciate how much effort and time it can take to get which makes actually getting them from crates extremely exhilarating. I myself got one high end set and a nihilus mask from crates, a couple middle range, and several lower range while my kid got and gave me Revan's set as well as a yellow cybernetic set she had been wanting for her sniper. My only gripe is it sometimes takes a while to find a buyer for things you get from crates, I do wish Bioware would let us redeem those for currency directly from the game instead of the GTN only route, but that does keep items in the economy so.
  6. I followed Swtorista's advice from youtube and I did indeed start at level 1. Worked my first character through class and story campaigns, then boosted with my free boost another character. Juggernaut is my first and probably my most fun character. Easy to tank and damage with, as I was a tank in another MMO for over a decade. The character I boosted was a bounty hunter, love the flame thrower stuff after I spent some time on him. I also manually leveled an inquisitor, and that was also very fun. Three 70s, but I spent most of my gaming time currently throwing flame and the such. It's insanely fun at the ability to aoe clear. As far as trade skills go, picked up artifice and two gathering skills on juggernaut, three gathering skills on bounty hunter, and none so far on inquisitor as I havent play that one very much. Any suggestion on the skills for the inquisitor is welcome. Also, what should I be dusting in command crates? I know to keep upgrades, recipes, command tokens, and oranges but what should I absolutely dust? What are command tokens used for and what should I get with those?
  7. Selfish beyond description. He continued with this order of Jedis knowing full and well he could abandon it, yet he broke his oath, when he could have just broken his commitment. Betrayal or departure? Betrayal cuts far more deeply. At no time does one have to act on emotion. That is the path, well, in Star Wars, to the dark side. That is the countenance the Jedi cannot allow in their ranks. Many Jedi are also not human, yet have emotions. Purging of emotions is not what they're after or what they ask. They ask for control over such emotions, to not let them drive their order. Selfish indeed, at every turn. He puts his own wants, love as you stated, above his vows to the Order. At any time he could have abandoned his training, refused his duties that he knew full and well he was violating and have been able to had a chance at love without the betrayal of the Jedis. Yet, he remained, maybe out of a sense of duty. However that sense of duty failed him when he pursued the queen.
  8. Smarm is not well received with errors. Enjoy another title while my kid and I monetarily support this one.
  9. If this is a dealbreaker for you or anyone else, might I suggest tapping into your creativity for names. If you're vain and self-righteous enough to leave a game you've sank so much time and the such into because of this, it's petty and affects you and those that choose this option. I'll make up for the revenue you might spend, as I'm new and I'm bringing in a few players to try it out. I've spent $95 on this in two weeks. I'll probably throw at least the same amount into it every two weeks for my daughter and I for the forseeable future, so, I'll definitely make up for at least one person protest quitting.
  10. This seems like cutting your nose of to spite your face. I came into this game just a couple weeks ago and it took me quite sometime to get the creative juices flowing to come up with names I liked and that weren't taken. Having a thought-process dynamic enough to come up with names that aren't taken and is fitting to each player's personality/character's personality isn't terribly difficult. But, if you see it fit to exit the game you've sank some money into, and the most valuable of all commodities time, then so be it.
  11. 1: Anakin didn't sacrifice anything. Sacrifice implies he made choices to forgo comforts or necessities. He made no decisions that qualify as a sacrifice. In fact, it was the opposite: he reacted impulsively and selfishly during his tenure as a Jedi, the prime example is his secretive marriage while strictly being forbidden. 2: Vader is what you would call Lawful Evil. He has his own personal code of conduct, and his philosophy is by any means necessary. 3: This is partially true, and this was also during his time as a Jedi that he made that decision, which goes back to point number one. Selfish and ultimately immature to put his needs and desires over that of those that harbored him, trained him, and sought after his general well-being. The saying, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions," definitely applied to Anakin. 4: This is absolutely true! The subtitle of the move, "Return of the Jedi" has been more linked to Vader returning to his innocence as Anakin. He had his 180° turn, thus returning to the Jedi path he once not only followed but cherished in his youth in his final moments of life. Redemption is a strong empathetic character arc. Now, I want it to be known, I never was a Star Wars fan. This game is my favorite MMO and general online game, but decades of having these movies dissected and commented on, not only by outsiders but Lucas, the cast, authors of the novels/novellas, and philosophy professors and students(we're all philosophy students in reality) gives so much insight into this character. Vader is one of film's best villains, and ultimately his tale, much like the opera of Star Wars itself, is millennia old. Much of the structure of the Star Wars government and politicians were taken from Roman counterparts. The main characters all have roots in tales as old as written drama itself.
  12. Certainly was able to get my inventory, extra stash tab, and a few perks certainly. Still quite a bit more to dump credits into, but you're also right those are luxury. I don't personally like the idea of having credits just for the sake of having them. There are certainly some items on the GTN I would like, but nothing outrageous. Looking at the green-black power crystal and things of that nature that aren't super expensive. The armor sets I haven't considered chasing down, as some are quite expensive and those aren't anywhere in my reach. More of a realist in that regard. Mayhap a nice mount, which some are quite affordable and nice. Maybe a few account unlocks. My immediate goal is to unlock more perks like faster quicktravel and the such, and the aforementioned power crystal.
  13. Thank you very much for taking the time out for advice.
  14. So, first day of this game was September 30th. I subbed on the 2nd of October. I bought 4 golden crates to get items to sell for credits, as I noticed the perks for characters, inventory, and stash spaces can be quite expensive. I didn't do exceptionally well on those and I was wondering a few things: What would you guys and gals recommend on a decent way to earn credits for the necessities of the game? I'm staying at around 600,000 credits. Could really use a moderate boost to spend on legacy and other things, so what would you recommend I do to earn some? Where would a somewhat fresh level 70 get some equipment to begin to dabble into the harder content? Very familiar with the holy trinity MMO setup, so need to gear for my role as tank/dps. Are there things in the game I absolutely should do? Finished class quests and story mode,up to chapter 13 I think of the last expansion. What professions go with crafting dye and lightsabers? Where should one farm materials for crafting? Thank you in advance for reading over this!
