  1. I always find it friggin' hilarious when people name D3 as an MMO killer.

    ...

Are you inSAYAN? Srsly, you need a reality check, why even name it in the same breath with completely different game categories.

I'm 100% sure that *insert random multiplayer game here* will kill all MMO's. *trollface*

You doomsayers need to get out of here.

Your point of view is quite flawed... they are in the same catagory for me, which is big name releases. If I play D3 and it takes up most of my time, why pay for a SW sub?

If it takes up even a portion of time that D2 took, I won't have time to pay to play anything else. Heck, I've lost guildies to LoL which isn't a MMO, but is another popular PVP game out there.

TLDR, the whole viewpoint of games in other catagories not affecting any MMO is pretty ignorant since gamers don't stick to just one catagory.

  2. I can see why they waited to make the announcement.

They need to decide if they wanted to release rated WZ's with bugs and that needed to be fixed. And listen to all the bitXXing about the bugs.

Or not release rated WZ's and listen to all the bitXXing about pulling it.

They can't win no matter which they do.

Yeah, there is something they can do... Follow through.

The WZ didn't have to be bugged... BW let it be by not giving us the ability to test it. The PTS was packed... but it was mostly with level 1-30 players.

And if they don't have the ability to quickly add a quest giver that gives mega exp, or give you an already level 50 character with some basic gear, then they failed to make basic tools for themselves to even handle a MMO. In any other MMO, the GMs can basically do anything they want, give you any item or amount of money, even max out your level... why does this game fail in that regard? If they created the game, why did they make it so hard on themselves? Or when they say, it isn't easy to do things... are they just blowing smoke up our rear ends? I refuse to believe that they can't modify accounts directly to add a template character to users accounts on PTS.

  3. Exactly ... because there are none! There is no official proof of anything: decline or growth. It's just windbags making stuff up to bring attention to themselves.

I would say that torstatus.net is the closest thing we have to charting population. While no where near perfect, one can base some conclusions off the number of light, standard, heavy, etc. servers and for how long they remain in those states.

There is 3-1/2 months of data available, and while I'm sure the first couple of weeks BW was tweaking the parameters, it would make no sense for them to gradually adjust those parameters to show what the long term graphs show us the past 3 months.

That is, North American servers have had a slow but steady increase in servers going to "light" status. Europe basically looks the same as the NA servers. And Asia Pacific servers have a healthy and steady population.

You can pick out individual servers like The Fatman and see it has a very healthy population, which has been also seen in game. You can pick other servers and see they're light almost 100% of the time. Anturi Reach would be one example of that. And instead of hating on Torstatus, trying to disprove it's usefulness, use it, and test it out for yourself! It tells you the best servers to play on, whether you like a high pop or low pop.

  4. April might be the next big drop from those that purchased a 3 month sub initially.

I'm in the 3 month crowd, and my sub is cancelled as of now, but I suggest you tinker around with 1.2. I will try it out for another month and go from there. 1.2 UI developments are very welcome, as well as them starting to add some guild features and legacy stuff to work for.

Though, I don't have eyeballs right now on the test server (maybe they did that so we wouldn't see any bugs? lol) In any case, 1.2 makes the game feel less beta like and if you haven't checked it out yet, I would before making any final decisions.

  5. impossible to accomplish ... impossible to accomplish ... impossible to accomplish ...

In UO in 1998 I could buy and put a up a house anywhere there was open land, and turn it into a fort, a bunker, a stash house, or even a store or tavern. Once I set that house down I CHANGED THE WORLD ON WHICH I PLAYED UNTIL I STOPPED MAINTAINING IT.

Your definition of impossible and mine must be very different.

Yes, this whole "it's impossible" attitude is silly. If it can be thought of, it can be done in a virtual world. FREE YOUR MIND!

I also played UO and enjoyed many of the freedoms in that game.

  6. Umm? I used the cheating example because it's something 80% of men have to face in their lifetime. More people can relate.

And I wasn't harping. I was engaging in intelligent conversation with a mellow minded individual.

Hmm... telling someone that you're "roaring with laughter" because of their comment is insulting and rude at best... Most certainly it is not what I would consider intelligent conversation. But hey, I guess that's your opinion. (I guess it could be intelligent if your intent was to put the other person on the defensive, or get under their skin... for whatever purpose.)

Edit: Btw, I agree with your point of view that this low population stuff stinks. I'm just saying you're not going to win anybody over by talking to them that way.

  7. lol @ low population on servers not being a deal breaker.

That's like saying your wife cheats on you, rubs it in your face, but it's not a deal breaker, it's normal.

I'm roaring with laughter right now.

The very meaning of MMORPG's is massive amount of players playing together to conquer massive amounts of content.

    Which this game doesn't have.

For some people it's not a deal breaker... it's completely subjective.

For you it seems to be (and it is for me as well,) but what's the point harping on people for what they enjoy, or how they enjoy it?

(a little overboard on the cheating example btw... but that's just my opinion)

  8. So basically no matter what they say they are lying.

No, the point of a non-answer is that no matter what the truth is, you haven't told a lie.

And to the guy who said SR confirmed it was dying... come on now... just read a little further and he clarifies. I don't like that sort of mis-truth regardless of what side of the fence it's on. It doesn't help your arguement any... but it does diminish your own point of view.

  9. "not that I'm aware" isn't an answer, it's a very good PR non-answer. :)

(as opposed to him saying "I don't have a clue")

"Not that I'm aware" = Probably not, but I'm going to leave myself an out, just in case... and I'm not going to look into it to confirm.

Anyways, if you guys are looking at stuff long term, a 1 weekend blip doesn't really matter much.

The tools are out there to compare NA servers as a whole, or individual servers like "The Fatman" and I would encourage people to use this data to find a server to reroll on, or transfer to when the time comes if you are on a crappy server.

Also, I would encourage people to test 1.2, as the game really has a different feel to it... many of the "pebble in your boot" type of issues have been fixed or improved (for me at least.) In fact I don't plan on playing live until 1.2 hits.

The game can be quite fun if you have others to play with, but as a solo game it's kind of a drag. With the PTS being so busy, it was fun... and logging onto my server isn't. (The Shadowlands btw)

  10. I'd be curious to see what a screenshot from the last 3 days looked like, rather than screenshots that are over a month old.

Yes, if you right click them and go to properties, you can see they range in dates from Feb 2nd to Feb 13th. That's pretty misleading...

For the sake of arguement too, people need to consider whether we're talking about Asia Pacific, NA, or European servers.

If you look at the trends on Asia Pacific, things look pretty healthy, however if you seperate out just NA servers and look at the trend (using torstatus) you can see a steady increase in light pop servers. (this isn't a good thing)

Also, when the Devs commented that the game was growing in subs, is that including the Asia Pacific sub numbers? I would like to see how just NA is doing... Of course they'll never admit to the game doing sub-par... it's their job to promote the game too. They sort of have a vested interest.

  11. This is my understanding so far... Of course each RE only has a chance of learning the recipe

RE Green Item -> Blue Recipe

RE Blue Item -> Purple Recipe

RE Purple Item -> Orange Recipe

Create several Oranges until you "crit" craft with an Augment slot.

But I've also seen fully moddable purples now too...

I'll focus more on getting some recipes to orange though to make sure this is how it works. I've been more focused on getting blue recipes, since early on you out level things so fast it doesn't make sense to take it to purple and beyond.

  12. I've been testing the 1.2 patch, and I have to say the game actually feels more complete. Feels like we're not playing a beta anymore. Granted, they have some bugs to fix, such as a major sound glitch that continues until you exit the game and come back in, but overall the improvement is extremely noticeable.

The UI stuff is pretty slick, some of the gripes about crafting fixed, guild banks.

I don't have a 50 on PTS though, so I can't comment about fixes to endgame.

Edit: I wouldn't want 1.2 released with that sound bug... so I have to disagree with the OP. Don't release NAO.

  13. You will -never- have your identity stolen by your name delivered via e-mail. You WILL have it stolen by the clerk at a grocery store, or someone breaking into your HR departments files, electronically or physically. Not by someone having your FIRST AND LAST NAME.

Lol, ignorance is bliss I see...

Identity theft isn't just about one piece of information, it's about piecing together the puzzle... Your full name is just one piece.

With that kind of attitude, maybe karma will bite you in the rear end.

  14. Honestly people, what is the purpose of jumping down this guy's throat? You feel better now?

I'd be upset too if the game used my real name instead of forum name without my knowledge upfront. That's the key... if it said that it was going to send personal information upfront, then it's on him. However, that doesn't sound like the situation here.

How you define friends doesn't mean squat either. Telling him that he shouldn't consider online friends as "real" friends is completely besides the point. And then insulting him for the chance that he does is absolutely moronic.

If you don't think your personal information, including your full name, is sensative information, then I sure hope you don't find out the hard way by having your identity stolen.

  15. Not if they want any players. It surprises me you would even try to go down this line of thought in defense of a combat log.

Actually, they do make chat optional in this game. You can't turn off general, trade, etc. I tend to make a seperate tab for guild only because of the speed which general pushes guild text off the screen.

I didn't mean to start this whole, chat vs logs arguement. All that I was trying to point out was that you can't remove everything from a game that will cause players grief. The only way to do that is to have a single player game because people cause others grief.

Out for real this time heh!

  16. First, thanks for the compliment.

As to the out of game logs, I'm not sure exactly how they are going to implement it, but in other games I've played with logs and meters done that way it's not been a big deal. The parsers can be quite sophisticated, smooth and seamless with the game. Plus I have total control of how the data is then displayed and metered and I get far more useful information that is tuned to the way I want to see it.

On the fly in game is nice, if done right...but can also be a crutch in my view and make the game a bit less challenging. That's how I see it.

And I've never once ever asked to see the data of how another player is doing in the game. It's just not me and my play style nor the people I play with. Not to say I don't understand why people do want to see it.

Too true, we'll have to wait and see how they're implemented.

I like programming, so a it may be fun to write up some code to parse it, but it remains to be seen if they'll give us enough info to make our own DPS/HPS meters.

For instance if they write to the log in realtime, that's easy, but I can forsee them worrying about performance issues from constantly accessing your HD. If they buffer info and write to the log once every 20 seconds without any sort of timestamp, then things get more tricky.

Anyways, thanks for being polite, it is much appreciated.

I should probably do at least one or two productive things before my day's over... later!

  17. The "jerks will be jerks" argument is getting old already.

They also, as someone else just said, want people to play the game not the mechanics. And damnit I couldnt agree more! ...

Mind you, I dont care how you decide to spend your time playing. You want to number crunch, by all means knock yourself out....

The arguement may be getting old to you, but it is a true statement is it not?

And the two next statements are contradictory... I do feel that people are telling me how I should play. Both sides can be happy here, and I've stated how in other posts.

And I also question people who say the way it will be implemented is good enough when they have no plans of using it, or don't like using logs/meters in general. How would you know?

  18. Nah man, you can ask all you want. That's the point of the forums and conversation. Bioware has been assessing this since the start and have made a decision, in part based on what the players have been telling them.

Trust me, I know exactly how you feel on the issue in not getting it the way you want it. I've seen issues like this go against my desires time and time again in MMOs. While I can empathize with your plight of not having what you want, I still feel Bioware is doing the correct thing.

Their plans on logs are a perfect good way to go about meeting as many needs as possible while keeping the game as friendly as possible.

Your point of view is refreshing. Many on this forum chastize you for even asking and will fight you tooth and nail and tell you your personal reasons are wrong.

You do have to agree, that a text file outside the game is sort of a crappy way to implement this though right? And it's unnecessary.

For instance, if I'm testing different rotations (I like to do my own trial and error stuff) for different situations, does it really matter to those who don't want a meter if I have to retrieve and crunch my own data by alt tabbing, or if I have it at my fingertips in game (and it's private?) You can't see mine, I can't see yours, it's not even an option.

    I think that's quite a compromize... (looks at Blotter. ;) )

  19. The implemenation is something that makes the majority happy. The staunch people on the margins that want it all or nothing are the ones that will not be happy.

I guess it's too much to ask for something that is easy to use.

Heck I'd be happy with in game personal only metrics... and if someone really want's to get crazy about it, you can send them a screen shot.

Out of game metrics is a seriously clunky way to do things, and makes it very difficult for users. Please put yourself into anothers shoes. If something you liked to use frequently required you to alt-tab out every time you wanted to use it... would you consider that to be a good implimentation? There could be a workaround if mods were available, but they are not.

Also, why would it be any skin off your back if the metric was available in game... (and not shareable?) That's my main beef with it as it stands. I can just punch in chat if I'm grouping with guildies... and if someone calls BS, I have printscreen.

  20. Oh please such a smart response.

For one general chat on my server is quite respectful so that rarely happens.

Two my guild members don't yell or make another person feel bad. If they have a problem with a quest, we go help them without judging them.

Three group chat are based on the people you group with so that doesn't happen either.

Don't you roll your eyes at me lol... the disrespect of people now-a-days. ;)

So basically, you are saying, you don't group or join a guild with people who mis-use chat?

Hmm... sounds sort of like something I said earlier...

You do get where I'm going with this right?

  21. Why can't people think in terms of something that will make both sides happy?

All that I see here is, "my play style is valid so that's how it should be" while the other side basically says the same thing.

Guess what, there are people who enjoy using dps meters, and there are people who enjoy the game without them. The way I see it, making them able to be toggled lets people who don't want to use them, do so. If people want to use them, then they turn them on. If you have a group who requires them, chances are you don't want to group with them if you don't like meters. There will be performance expectations in that group.

The round about way logs are being implemented in 1.2 seems like they will be a PITA to use, and not a very good solution for the people who enjoy them. Who programs stuff to be a PITA?

PS. Just as we don't have the right to tell you how to play/enjoy the game, the same goes for you telling us that we don't have the right to want dps meters/combat logs etc, that are easy to use (which is how we like to play, and what we enjoy.)
