  1. I just did it again. I clicked on the shuttle door, went to my ship and noticed I forgot something on the planet. Back to a long wait for the plane to load. (and then run through the space station and then finally get to the planet) Seriously, what takes so long to pull in the data on a new planet? Loading the fleet with 250+ players is way faster, some planets are just a huge pain in the posterior. Load times is the most annoying thing in the game. With all the gauntlet style quest areas being a close second. Don't blame my hardware, btw. I just recently changed from a hard disk to a 240GB SSD drive with no noticeable change. I am beginning to believe that way to much planetary data is held server side and it takes forever to get it out from the database there. Frustrated.
  2. I forgot to mention, I am a marauder in carnage spec. I will have to verify which of Vette's abilities are enabled. And having her open with AE attacks is certainly a refinement I should use. There's probably something similar for Jaesa as well. I usually manage to take out the trash first before focusing on the bigger fish. It's just a good idea to reduce incoming damage as fast as possible. (mental note: frontload defensive CDs) keep your ideas coming
  3. I just finished chapter II at level 40. I went in with Vette, but found myself dying or getting close to it to often. Dressing Quinn in Vette's girl clothes did help and I could finish chapter II. On my way out I saw a lvl 38 with Jaesa, obviously having finished as well. However, I don't like to play with Quinn. Vette has some room to improve her gear, but Jaesa needs to be fully equipped. Will it be worthwhile? How do Jaesa and Vette compare in damage output? Will I die less with Jaesa than with Vette?

  6. Folks, that's the CEO of a public company talking to investors. If he lies to them, they'll sue, the company will lose a lot of money and the CEO could go to jail. If he says 1.7 mio subscribers, it's pretty close to the truth.
  7. Yes, you can go into your partners class area that way, but only your partners quest gets advanced. You have to leave the area and re-enter yourself first, then you can finish your own class quest. After some reading, I will most likely go Vanguard, with a hybrid spec. I am also looking at crew skills and I am thinking Synthweaving, Archaelogy, Underworld and Cybertech, Scavenging, Slicing between the two of us would be pretty advantageous.
  8. My wife's going to join me in playing SWTOR. She's just rolled a consular and she's set to turn her into a healing spec sage. What are good class choices to duo with her? I figure all combinations are feasible when it comes down to it, but I'd like to hear other opinions. Obviously for the starter area, a Jedi Knight is probably best, but should I go Guardian or Sentinel. I know a tank/healer combo would make it easy to start a group, but I am not the worlds best tank. Another Jedi Consular going assassin / kinetic tank seems out of the question, since we will have to do duplicate class quests. What about non-force classes?
  9. Why should they vary the load indicators once they have settled on something that roughly reflects capacity? I would expect that a new character most of the time gets created on a server where a players friends are or if the server has at least a standard load during peak times (not sure if there are any at full at this point in time). Only the inexperienced and some rare exceptions will create a new character on a server with light load.
  10. Not trying to pick on your post in particular, it just reinforces the point I want to make: "Server-Population" isn't very well defined. What does it mean in reality? - Subscribers? - People with toons on that server? - Hours played? I recently created a toon on "The Shadowlands" and was taken back how populated that server is. When asked why, I was told, the "Red vs Blue" team has their home there. That certainly will skew the number of people with toons on that server, just in case there will be an event. And as I said in an earlier post, the total number of hours played on a single server is what should concern us as a community, looking for a group, raid or guild.
  11. Couple of issues: 1) The numbers offered by mmojunkies and torstatus are the best info us users have, short of somebody moving from planet to planet and writing down numbers. We have to live with them and interpret them to the best of our abilities. 2) Bioware adapting the actual numbers of how many players online constitutes heavy load makes sense for them to fine-tune capacity on their end. If the actual server hardware was running at 30% capacity while their capacity indicator said "FULL" should certainly allow them to adapt. Or the other way around, their physical server running glowing red while the load indicator says STANDARD would need some adjustment, too. But, it should be clear to them after a very short time what the real indicators are and become stable afterwards. Meaning, if they start HEAVY load at 1500 people online and adjust that up to 2000 after 2 days and again to 2400 after a week, it won't change much thereafter, unless better hardware is introduced. Which is unlikely during the first year of operation, EA wants to have some return-on-invest before they refresh. 3) We also face some competing measurements in regards to use and capacity: We players spend loads and loads of time in the first couple of weeks and now that number comes down. And that's what the server status (and a hand count) indicates: total playtime is coming down ( the sum of hours played over all players). What has not changed and may actually be slowly rising is the number of subscribers. I am sure there are plenty of people who played 60+ hours/week in December who now only play 20+ hours, and they are still subscribed. and they will be subscribed when they only play 10 or less hours per week. Bioware is perfectly fine with that. But there are still a good number of newcomers who signed up yesterday, ready to put in their 60+ hours/week. We just don't notice them anymore, since they are spread out over 250+ servers.
  12. Money talks. The pie feature you like will only be implemented if Bioware thinks more people will play the game. If that number is smaller than the additional subscribers coming from a cake feature, you lose. The pie niche will only be filled if Bioware learns that there is a market for them. The learning process can be very slow, since there is risk involved. The risk that prediction and reality don't match. If the reality outdoes the prediction, eventually even the cake makers will implement the feature. But the risk involved will force the developers to take only small steps into pie features, or only one step at the time. As an example for small step, compare the number of cut scenes in Lich King to Cataclysm. The only place where you can get your pie are places who are to small to handle cake, or from places who aren't into making pie just for the money.

  14. Global channels are there for trolls and Chuck Norris jokes. Throw in some [a-n-a-l] But seriously, that's what's most likely is going to happen. The trolls and the more extroverted people in search for an audience will use the channel with the largest audience.
