  1. I guess you guys weren't here for the Revan launch. It happened around this time and what the community learned is that the Austin team takes off from around mid December until about the end of January. I knew before Eric admitted it that we weren't going to get a fix because there is literally no one there to fix it. It's also why Chapter 10 got pushed till February - because they didn't want the bug filled, zero support, poochscrew that was SoR launch again. I wouldn't hold my breath for the Jan 12 event either. Like I said, the team doesn't seem to come back to work until late January. Then again, maybe this was an easy fix that they could get the interns to do. Fingers crossed.
  2. When a bug reaches a year old, it sheds its cocoon and becomes a beautiful new "feature"
  3. You guys might as well drop the addon debate; we have a better chance of getting dx12 support, a 64bit client, and proper multithreading before addons. Back in the early days before the UI was customizable at all (even through it was a hotly demanded feature), I seem to recall the devs hinting that doing it was a technical feat of epic proportions. 3.0 brought a proc watcher and buff/debuff tracking and the UI is now hurting some (many?) people's fps. Correlation =/= causation but it does make one suspicious. I strongly suspect that the code running this game is an inflexible, unexpandable, patched together amalgamation of mess that would require an obscene amount of resources devoted to it before it could support any type of API framework. It likely wouldn't solve the problem anyway. Or rather even if you managed to fix UI fps loss, it's likely you'd suffer new lag/fps loss from the game trying to process your addon code on top of its own. I wanted addon support too, a long time ago. Now though, with the amount and type of bugs that plague this game, I'm terrified at the idea. Make an addon that's supposed to hide your mini-map but it deletes all your gear instead. No ETA on fix at this time.
  4. Well if you really want feedback, so be it... First off, I think the speedrun concept in general is stupid. SoR has been extremely content light and you want to have events that require players to burn through what little there is as quickly as humanly possible? Oookay... Secondly, this is extremely unprofessional. What should have happened is you spotted bugs, fixed bugs, announced event. Instead you do the last one first, the first one second, and the second one not at all. You also basically declared to the world now that not only does TOR suffer from issues, but that the team behind TOR is incapable of fixing them. Also in need of mentioning is this should be a wake up call to the TOR team and to EA in general: Your QA process is abysmal. This bug existed before this event, it's just that until the event you didn't care overly much. And this is one bug out of an enormous mountain of them that sit in the game right now; some of them dating as far back as RELEASE. And it's time to acknowledge what the TOR engine is and is not capable of. From my experience, the more mechanic-y a fight, the more issues it has. The engine just doesn't seem capable of handling mechanic heavy encounters and if you are not able to get them working (as evidenced here) THEN STOP DOING THEM. I'd rather have more boring fights that work than more complex ones that bug out half the time. Lastly, ToS. If your very own metrics are showing only a tiny fraction of the playerbase is in there then maybe you need to smack your devs upside the head for consistently releasing overtuned content. Brutal encounters in HM and NiM OPs are fine, but I thought the whole point of SM was to be accessible by pretty much everyone? And how's that bonus boss in Battle of Rishi treating you devs in the office? Enjoying it? Boy we sure are. It's so fun when you need a group in OPs gear to do FPs...
  5. Pretty much what they said but for a little more explanation, this is done by design. Holding Left Click causes MouseLook (spins your camera) while Right Click causes MouseTurn (spins your character), in both cases the mouse pointer function is disabled while in this alternate mode. And really, you (or at least most people) would want it to work this way because when you're done MouseLooking/MouseTurning then you want your pointer to be where you left it, not in whatever crazy corner of the screen all the spinning about left it in. I suppose they could leave the pointer on the screen and just lock it in place but the disappearance is a good indicator that you are in the MouseLook/MouseTurn mode. While I do a lot of tab targeting, I also get a lot of use out of Right Click targeting. Switching target AND attacking with 1 keypress ftw. Also, I've found the tab targeting in this game to not always work the way you expect it to. I swear it sometimes picks the next target on whim instead of any kind of logic processing.
  6. This isn't entirely correct. If you have an account on TOR then you have an account on Origin, however TOR (idiotically) uses your forum name for login while Origin uses your email so they're not 100% the same. But yeah, not only do you not need to run Origin in order to run TOR, but they actually integrate quite poorly together
  7. This is the biggest issue right here. If you require better gear than what the content rewards then either the content is overtuned or the itemization is undervalued. Sadly, this has been the way EAustin has done many HM FPs since Rakghouls - the only masochists who did HM Lost Island where the drops would have been upgrades was the random pug dps who assumed the other three people would be *massively* overgeared and carry them (and every time it didn't work out that way, the group fell apart). By the time people are geared enough to go through these with a reasonable chance of success, then there ceases to be any point in running them at all since you're probably not going to get anything out of it. I think the biggest problem is, they cannot decide what role HM FPs are supposed to fill. Long ago, they were a gear progression to get you in to OPs - but now you can jump straight in to an OP and HM FPs have become kind of mini-OPs in themselves. Which is fine if that's what they want to do with them but if the content needs OPs-ish level gear and OPs level coordination but isn't dropping OPs level loot, then why am I running it instead of an OP? For HM FPs they need to: 1) re-tune all of the fights for people using only 186 basic comm gear - no augments, no voice chat, any combination of classes so long as the 3 roles are filled 2) have all bosses except bonus and final drop 192 comm gear 3) bonus and final boss drops 198 comm gear 4) final boss, bonus boss, and daily reward should be a balanced number of ultimate comms OR Keep things as is, declare HM FPs 4-man OPs and have the bonus and final boss drop OPs loot.
  8. Considering some of the bugs that got shipped with SoR, it might not be unreasonable to be concerned that the bug isn't what you think it is. Instead of the Top Option playing the romance dialogue and the Bottom Option not, the bug could be the Top Option is reading the flag automatically like it should (whether it be true or false) and the Bottom Option is actually disabling the romance... At any rate, thanks for keeping this updated. Just for clarification since your OP is slightly outdated now: As of 3.1 all Republic classes/genders work, and Imperial Agent male/female works, and Bounty Hunter male/female works if you select the top option only. However, Sith Warrior male/female and Sith Inquisitor male/female is still broken? Somewhere buried in the thread it was suggested that Sith Warrior male was working but I haven't been able to find any screenshots or youtubes of a romance acknowledged Vette. Also, Dark Jaesa, Temple, and Akaavi are considered the "wrong" romance and never had any scenes/acknowledgements at all?
  9. A couple of things to note about mount knockoff: 1) Some NPCs - the gods only know why - were given abilities that guarantee a 1-shot knockoff. I've gotten 1-shotted off of my mount by *GREY* NPCs before. If the ability hits you, your *** is on the grass. Of the SoR stuff, the cats on Rishi have the 1-shot ability for sure. 2) We're not really sure what mount offers what protection due to tooltip bugs. For example, the Ambassador's Hoverchair item - that is, the thing sitting in your inventory before you learn it - doesn't mention any protection at all BUT the ability tooltip - what you get when you hover your mouse over the ability after you learn it - says it offers Excellent protection. Another example is the Irakie Hawk whose item tooltip says Exceptional protection but the ability tooltip says it is only Excellent protection. It would take either Bioware or data miners to say what protection - if any - these mounts are actually offering. Personally I wish they would either tie knockoff protection in to your speeder piloting rank OR better yet, remove knockoff completely. It's a terrible mechanic. Maybe keep it for specific purposes like Guards and maybe allow it for any NPC that's a higher level than you to keep noobs from running around high level areas. Otherwise remove it from everything else. If I wanted to fight every green NPC in my way then I wouldn't have mounted in the first place. The fact that I'm traveling on a mount suggests that I am wanting to get from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible and it's incomprehensible why the dev's of this game want to make travel as obnoxious as possible.
  10. Anyone able to confirm it's still broken in 3.1? Was kinda hoping for a stealth fix...
  11. I've been waiting too. No word on it being fixed in 3.1 yet and I'm about out of Republic guys
  12. I'm not sure which quest it was exactly, but one of the Republic quests on Corellia results in receiving a mail from Deena Behar titled "Thanks and Appreciation" that contains a now defunct Planetary Commendation. Accepting the reward results in nothing at all - it neither converts in to a Basic Commendation nor does it appear as a sellable inventory item.
  13. Or become more powerful than we can possibly imagine...
  14. I thought the exact same thing when I read that. At this point I'd lay money down on UO and EQ still running when the Sun finally expands and devours the Earth
  15. They're never going to rebuild the engine. And if they did I would much prefer they did it in OpenGL. The sooner game developers stop suckling the Microsoft teat, the happier the world will be. Or just me at least.
  16. It's not just implants; a lot of willpower gear is under-budgeted. A good example is to go grab the 192 companion gear box for Nadia/Jaesa and you'll find half the stuff in it is worse than what you could get using 172 Rishi mods
  17. No because the game engine would spontaneously combust at the mere suggestion. I'd be happy if we could just get some kind of centralized control of each character's crew skills, whether that be in game or a smartphone app or whatever. Logging in to each character sucks due to the ridiculous load times TOR has.
  18. Thanks for the post.. I got Nadia's box tonight and noticed that half the gear was worse than the 172 stuff I had her in and was very confused. I also encountered this issue when I crafted my Sorc a 186 purple implant and found out it had over *100* stat points less than a 178 blue (budget was 493 vs 596). At the time I just figured they hated crafters. Now I'm wondering if a Willpower user touched a Dev in a bad place as a child...
  19. I'll respond to this one because you're right and I didn't clarify that in my review. Makeb was large and full of stuff and was from a purely technical point of view adequately written. It however suffered from 1) being really horrible at getting around and 2) the story was, from a personal point of view, uninteresting and for reasons I still can't explain completely failed to grab me. They corrected this in SoR: Rishi and Yavin are easy to get around in and the story keeps my attention. There's just so little of it Yavin for example contains about 15 minutes of great Bioware storytelling. And about an hour consisting of "Go do the dailies" followed by "Go do the dailies again". I'll state again for emphasis that I do not think SoR sucks. I just didn't feel it was great either. It was.. meh. As an aside, I don't expect anyone to read it. In some ways I'd prefer they didn't. I wasn't attempting to spark discussion or debate and I certainly have no interest in attracting trolls. I was very hesitant to post it here at all but I am unaware of any other medium in which to provide Bioware with such feedback so here it is.
  20. After having spent some time on this expansion I finally feel capable of providing Bioware with a review of Shadow of Revan. I also wanted to wait until the performance issues settled down as I felt that was affecting my general feeling of the expansion. For full disclosure, this review will be from the perspective of a "casual" gamer: I am in a guild of real life friends and family who all feel that gear grinding does not qualify as entertainment, as such we tend to do a raid once, when it comes out to see the content, and then only repeat it if someone *really* wants to do it on an alt for lore reasons. Also, I personally have no interest in PvP; I know lots do (even some in our guild) but it's just not my thing and I do not participate in it. Finally, I feel compelled to add that this is feedback for Bioware from a player. This is my set of opinions and nothing else - I do not presume to speak for anyone else playing this game and am well aware that there are many who will disagree with me. If you feel the need to argue, flame, or just generally troll this post... well.. I can't stop you but know that I will not be responding and you will not change my mind so have fun playing with yourself. Review begin. **SPOILERS AHEAD** PERFORMANCE: I waited until this got better before writing this up but this really needs to be mentioned. Bioware, it's awesome that you give your people a month off for the Holidays but doing so right after a major release is terrible management practices. A period when lots of people have free time AND disposable income (or just free gifts) is the time for TOR to shine and should have been all hands on deck. Instead it was the exact opposite. Either move the period you give off or move release dates for expansions but for the love of god never do both at the same time again. TALENT TREES: A major change that I absolutely love. Anyone who believed the old system allowed choice was deluding themselves. There was the right way to spec and there was everything else. Once in a while balance changes allowed for a hybrid spec to be viable but this was rare and didn't always last long (and then people would whine that their convoluted spec was now "broken"). This was especially bad in PUGs when you got stuck with someone who didn't look up the Right Spec and instead picked a random assortment of things or just picked every single talent in their tree. Now everyone has what they need and the Utilities allows for a more than adequate amount of personalization. What's more, now that dipping in to another tree is no longer an option, I suspect this will allow for a much greater amount of tweaking for each spec and streamline class/spec balancing. UI: It may be minor and stupid but I have to give a shoutout for the UI changes. I love the changes for buffs/debuffs and the "proc watcher" thing is great. I'm able to pay much more attention to the fight and less staring at little icons. More UI control will only ever be a good thing and I personally would like to see: 1) hide portraits, I could free up so much screen space with this. 2) resize or hide the massive Conquest/Stronghold label, I really don't care who is controlling Section X today and I already know this house belongs to me. Especially annoying when the dumb thing gets stuck on and wont fade away. 3) GTN filter for already known. Schematics, mounts, pets, titles, on and on.. these things already get greyed out if you know them but hiding them from the search and not making me flip through 90+ pages would be a blessing. NEW CONTENT: Sorry Bioware, but I have to ding you on this one. This expansion feels extremely content light compared to Makeb (and insanely so compared to vanilla). I'm wondering if splitting it between 2 planets was a mistake, making each planet feel emptier than they would otherwise and giving the overall feeling of "less" than Makeb. With no idea where to go or what to do and not spacebarring through anything, I was finishing Shadow of Revan on average of 5 hours and even though I still don't spacebar I'm getting that down to around 3 hours now. That's incredibly disappointing for an expansion. A Revan focused expansion could (should) have been a giant fanservice-KotOR-nostalgia-trip. The Starmaps, Kashyyyk, revisits to Tatooine and Korriban, Dantooine, flesh Rakata Prime out to be a real planet, Manaan which STILL sits largely pointless, the Exile and HK-47 who don't get so much as a mention.. the options were enormous. I am also disappointed in the choice of planets because instead of all of the above choices and more, we got Rishi. Though a neat place, has nothing to do with Revan and whose tiny story didn't really add to Revan at all - it was just a place and Revanites happened to be at this place... ..and Yavin. Talk about dropping the ball. This planet oozes lore and we got virtually none of it. I was really hoping to explore here, search it's numerous temples, encounter force ghosts, resist (or succumb) to Yavin's corruption. But no. Instead I got 5 minutes of story and a new daily hub. Oricon v2.0. Wee. The only praise I can give Yavin is the Revan solo fight. Going up against a legendary character with a team of legendary characters was, by far, the most epic feeling I've gotten in this game. Ever. Even a 16man raid can't compare with the pure awesomeness of me and Darth Marr pairing off against Revan with Satele backing us up. Please do more of this. Much more. You ended the Revan story in a better way than you had. I care a lot about Revan. He's me. Yes, I know, you stole him for your EU nonsense.. I don't care.. Revan is mine. I squee'd when you brought him back in Maelstrom only to go *** in the Foundry - it was a lame end especially since you gave him no real story in between those two points. This is a much better end for my character. Thank you. That said, I hope your writers realize that after all of this, Revan is probably the most mentally damaged character in the history of fiction. So I'm also kind of glad you're done torturing the poor guy. The class quests were a nice touch but a little inconsistent. Some have companion interaction while others do not. Some like the Imperial Agent quest wrap up old stories, while others like Consular and Inquisitor add a little something new to your story. And then there were some like Bounty Hunter and Smuggler which didn't have much to do with anything and that was little disappointing. Still I think these quests were a small addition that had a strong impact on the value of the expansion. As for quests, I hate hate hate the new run up and take quest system. It's fine for dailies - preferable even - but please stop doing them for the side quests. I'm in TOR for story and immersion, if I wanted to click the guy with the exclamation mark over his head for my quests I'd go back to WoW. If you want to burn through content and hate all the jibberjabber then you had the option to spacebar. With this system the people who want the immersion have no option at all. Sadly, I have the feeling this change was done not to appease a type of player but instead because it was quicker and cheaper to do. "Full conversations available for purchase from the Cartel Market!" Sigh.. We haven't gotten around to doing the new Operations yet so no comment. The Flashpoints are fine I suppose, nothing new but nothing sucky either. Some bits are a little buggy but that can be ironed out. Would have liked a Yavin themed Flashpoint. Solo Mode will be a necessity as long as you make FPs/OPs part of your story but it's also a nice way to introduce new people to the content and get them interested in doing them. The streamlining of commendations is sublime. There really is no excuse at this point for anyone to run around undergeared. It should (hopefully) make PUGs a more enjoyable experience. At least a little. The new dailies are very nice. They're not obnoxious like Oricon and as long as planet populations don't go up, they're not the cluster**** that CZ and Oricon are(were). Please keep dailies easy like these, I know some want a challenge - and so do I.. just not from my dailies. Dailies are not fun, are not designed to be fun, and will never be fun. But they're already very challenging: the challenge comes from doing them day after day without slitting your wrists. I appreciate it when a tedious, mind numbing system doesn't require my full attention so I can watch a movie or surf centaur pr0n or whatever to entertain myself while I do it. I also really appreciate the super companion equipment. As an altoholic and someone who swaps out companions based on quest/planet for lore reasons, keeping everyone geared was a nightmare. Overall I give Shadow of Revan a solid "meh" score. It was good enough to keep me in the game but weak enough that if the next expansion is of similar quality, I will most likely skip it and move on. So much potential was wasted here that it makes me very sad. Until then, I really hope we get some fleshing out in the form of content patches. I'd really like to see much more Revan lore added, be that Starmaps, HK, Exile (if you're Imperial you don't even know she's still around), or anything really. I'd like to see Yavin made larger and much more Yavin lore content added. And please for the love of the Force DO SOMETHING WITH MANAAN. You created this beautiful place with unique environment and textures and you're doing nothing with it. At the very least give us a Manaan Stronghold (with my very own underwater biodome to watch the firaxen! squee!). Thank you for your time and I hope my feedback was worth something.
  21. Keep the cost and move it to the Global Unlock tab. Remember that section Bioware? It doesn't get much love. In fact move half the stuff in the Character Perk tab to Global Unlock. I can understand keeping things like +xp character specific in case you want to level up through the content normally but is there really anyone anywhere that will be shaking their fist to the heavens angrily shouting "Why oh why must I be stuck with field respec?!" Alts are your friends Bioware. Alts not only keeps people playing your game but has them doing the same old content again. Character specific perks, lack of account wide mounts, pets, or titles (except for Cartel only and then it's expensive) adds up to making TOR a very alt unfriendly game. Next expansion: new character perk - Level Up. Five ranks you must purchase before your character can reach level 65. Each rank costs 5 million credits or 500cc. You heard it here first folks.
  22. Personally I would prefer they just delete the stats off of colour crystals entirely. Leave it as a purely cosmetic choice. Doing that would also have the side benefit of deleting tons of now superfluous schematics and my screen would stop freezing up every time I open my Artifice window =D That said, I'm not sure how far behind you are/were but you can also learn schematics for Purple, Cyan, and Black-Red/Blue/Purple/Orange. They're still only +41's but lots of people forget about these since you can only learn the schematics from REing
  23. I've done extensive testing on this bug with friends and how it works is how I described. If someone you're grouped with gets the kill shot then you almost never get credit. If a companion gets the killshot it's about a 50/50 chance if you get credit or not. It seems some people don't get this bug at all and if you're one of those then grats. But for me, the OP, and anyone else getting it, this is how to avoid it.
  24. As a matter of fact this quest IS bugged. Severely. But it's easy to work around it. The bug is caused if anyone other than you gets the kill shot. Companion gets it? No credit. Playing with a friend who gets the kill shot? No credit. There are actually a few quests on Rishi suffering from this issue (Bounty Hunter class quest comes to mind). Just put your companion on passive and if you're grouped tell your friend to stand there and provide moral support (they'll still get credit when you do). Hope this helps
