There is an obvious wave of anger/frustration going throughout the SWTOR community in regards to having yet another wave of name changes forced upon us. I myself had to change my main character's name back in the June server hop (I know it was voluntary and understand the reasoning behind allowing people on the origin server to keep their names and forcing those who transferred to change theirs. I get it. I don't like it, but it is understandable). This recent forced server hop and forcing people to change their names, some a second time, is inexcusable. Poor customer service responses and a lack of a solid 'in your face' explanation of the factors in which we are forced to change our names has only fueled the communities outrage.
I love this game. I love the people I play with. I love the stories, the combat, the flashpoints, the operations, and otherwise just a general love of this game. I also love my character's names. That being said I offer a solution to this problem that is otherwise plaguing our community.
Instead of first names being 'unique'; how about keeping a unique legacy name instead? Similar to the name@accountname system that City of Heroes (may it rest in peace) and Champions Online (I don't know of any other MMOs that used that system). This would allow players to keep their original names. It also makes more sense in a RP fashion as well. Let's be honest, there have got to be plenty of 'John', 'Betty', and 'Felipe' in the galaxy. But they wouldn't have the same legacy/family tree as anyone else.
So Bioware, please look at this. Keep our Legacy names unique and let us have whatever first name we want. It really shouldn't be a huge code fix from a technical perspective.
Thank you.
