  1. An excellent post Morgander. At the end of the day if we the consumer simply sit back and do nothing then surely that is telling companies and developers that we will accept anything that they care to do or any way they want to treat us their customers. I'm not prepared to do that. The way things have been done so far there's no way I'd treat my customers in the same manner. Maybe that's what makes it clear to those who wonder why some of us have taken a stand in the only way we can - ask yourself this question... If you were in charge of the processes and decisions made thus far to do with this one issue would you have made the same choices that Bioware have done and treated your customers in the same way?
  2. I agree with this. I think it's the bare minimum a AAA game of this type should do given the other games in the same genre and the technical ability of the engines they are on.
  3. Best shoot me for the incorrect usage of a word. I hold my hands up to the word police. Then your response degenerates into an emotional statement followed by unnecessary sarcasm. You have been quite level headed so far so it seems a shame. Particularly as you are clearly vested in the positive outcome of this thread like myself and hope the devs do implement an acceptable resolution. If you'd read my previous posts you'd see this is just one of a number of issues I have with the game hence I've not subscribed for now. Normally I wouldn't give a response like yours the time of day. However it provides a bump so yay.
  4. I'd be very interested to see if there is another official response about this with details about the options they are exploring to fix the issue. However I have unsubscribed (not a flippant thing to do for me as I am a CE owner) because of the professional embarrassment in the way this has been mishandled and the sheer insult of what someone thought they could tell us and we'd be ok with it. Also, improved graphical fidelity is merely hyperbole and deliberately vague. So given the way things have been done so far I simply do not expect them to do the right thing anymore and keep us up to date on a regular basis. Prove me wrong please do. I am hoping to subscribe when they fix the game and it is as is advertised. So for people like me who are watching the situation keenly with a view to giving our money in subscription what say you official response Bioware people?
  5. Isn't it odd how Bioware have created their own (sub) 'standard' with regard to their graphics settings. Their High setting for AA seems comparable to the industry standard 1X or at a push 2X which is as we all know a very basic and low setting. Certainly not what the industry and we as gamers would deem as the high setting they are labelling it as. The majority of people would consider either X8 (those with average spec'd PC's) or X16 (those with high spec'd PC's) as a High setting. Quite frankly this is just as bad as the removal of high resolution textures issue. How far you've fallen Bioware. Such a terrible shame.
  6. I'm thinking of doing some Lotro screenshots later just to emphasise the fact that games which are now in their fifth year of age have far superior graphic fidelity than Swtor several times over. That is a game where if you PvP in Ettens then you get a LOT of players on screen at same time all with high resolution texture detail. I don't PvP but I do Raid and even then you have twelve players plus mobs on screen at same time all with beautifully detailed textures. Posts from people who state those who unsubscribe because of this issue won't be missed are either missing the point or merely trying to get a rise out of you. Either way I wouldn't bother replying to them. From my point of view regardless of the money involved this whole thing is a totally shambolic professional embarrassment. Right from the way they first attempted to stealth change it which is completely insulting to a person's intelligence all the way through to the official response in which they give a vague statement regarding possible solutions. Plus their continuing usage of textures in advertisements for the game which you simply cannot achieve in the live client. It is an absolute disgrace. Far more than the money involved I would be concerned about the huge dent to the reputation of the Bioware name. They have done this not only to their own customers, us, but spare a thought for their own employees who have worked hard on those high resolution textures only for us to be forced not to use them. The shame.
  7. Shadows have been LEGO shadows in this game since beta for me. They are hideous and break my immersion. It's a professional embarrassment that a AAA game has such poor blocky shadows.
  8. Two AMD 6950's in Crossfire using 6970 BIOS Driver Version 8.93.10-111208a-130017E-ATI What limited options there are graphically in the game are all set to highest values. Running at 1920x1200 resolution. Fleet average 60fps Everywhere else average 111fps
  9. THIS! Did everyone blink and miss this post? That is VERY interesting and like I said earlier the official response to a solution so far has been completely vague giving me the impression they know well enough the limitations of what they are dealing with.
  10. It wouldn't surprise me if they took AA out of the next patch too even though it should have been in from launch.
  11. In my 30 years of gaming this has been one of the most underhand and shoddy mishandlings of anything I've seen in the industry. I bought the CE and was all set to subscribe for six months. Instead I've now cancelled my sub. Just a reminder to everyone here, the post from Stephen does NOT say they will be re-enabling the high resolution textures. In my opinion that simply will NOT happen now. It merely says they will be working on increasing fidelity for everyone. Note the extremely vague wording there. To add insult to injury their marketing is still using video and screenshots that contain graphical quality that their live game is not capable of. I think for the best indicator as to the quality of textures all you have to do is look at the quality of the shadows. They are an absolute joke of blocky mess. If that's the sort of thing that the development team think is acceptable then what can we realistically expect from them. The shadows in their advertising media are magically smooth bearing no resemblance at all to the ones in the game just like the textures. All we can do is make our protests known to the various media outlets and show our displeasure by not subscribing.
  12. Thankyou for the update Stephen. I'm sure we'd all like to be kept up to date on the specific things the dev team narrow it down to once you have finalised your plan of action. At the moment we're still at the looking into various solutions stage but believe me you will make a HUGE difference for us on this issue if you keep us up to date with regular posts and technical details. That would for me go a long way to reducing my big disappointment with the whole issue so far and restoring a badly dented reputation on the way the whole thing has been handled.
  13. Bump and repost: Positive feedback suggestions: 1. Allow US to CHOOSE if we want to enable high resolution textures. 2. Employ a team who knows what they are doing when it comes to designing clothing. Have them work closely with the graphics artists who can translate their vision into something that will look good with current game settings. The only reason I can understand for a developer to lock down something which PC users take for granted i.e. CHOICE in what level of graphics the game runs at would be because their main target audience has a universal specification. The only people who have that are console owners. WE are PC's. So unless you've been developing with an eye for the console market in the future why would you remove that choice from your paying customers? The bottom line here is that games such as Lotro have much better far more detailed graphics on your characters armour. Given their age you have to ask yourself why is that? Effectively you are concerned that our top specified PC's simply cannot handle the higher levels of detail when the majority of us already know they can from beta. But again beta or not that's not the point. You have removed the choice we have. It's all well and good giving a technical explanation as to why high resolution textures currently aren't available in open play but the simple sad fact of the matter is that it is a technical limitation on the engine with what the developers would deem as a reasonable payoff technology wise with regard to a user's PC that they decided isn't feasible! It's not your choice to make. We bought this game under the impression that the graphical capability is as advertised. Given the sheer amount of effort that has gone into the landscaping and art in this game not to mention the huge amount of money on the overall budget to end up with a game that has textures worse than games which are years older is absolutely shocking and totally unacceptable for me. What makes it worse is that the actual armour in game seems to have been designed by people who think dressing up as a tramp or just plain horrible drab clothing is a good idea. Given the visual splendour and diversity that we see in the films the clothing that you can have in this game is horrendous. ALL the armour needs a complete overhaul if you ask me as even with high res textures they will still look drab and samey. What an extremely disappointing outcome especially for the artists who have done amazing work on the landscaping and scenery (pathetic grass draw distance aside but again that's not their fault). I was all set to subscribe for 6 months. However with the complete farce that has been the outcome of an important issue I'll at best be switching it to a 1 month subscription to see what happens in the immediate short term. If things are not improved drastically and rapidly then I'll be taking my custom elsewhere. Once again thankyou to Stephen Reid for his hard work in getting the information and keeping us posted.

  15. I'm watching this very closely. As much as I'm enjoying playing the game at the moment the whole thing has been, well, not spoilt but certainly because of the way this has been mishandled and the fact they've been aware of it since beta taints what should be a hugely enjoyable experience for me. I'm trying not to be cynical but I can't help but think behind the scenes they are attempting to spin something that would be deemed as acceptible reasoning. They have ALL the information they need to inform us of what the status of the issue is because they've known about it since beta. Given they are professionals that means they will have formulated a plan of action and a timescale of result. In which case what's stopping them from giving that information to their customers. If this drags on through to the end of the trial month it will no doubt impact on the number of people who subscribe. People will say it will only be a small percentage of people who cancel their sub over this. Maybe that's correct but the overall result will still be one of extremely bad customer service and a huge dent in their reputation. Come on Bioware, sort it out. I'm rooting for you I really am. Don't disappoint us. Thanks to Stephen Reid for communicating with us here.
  16. Bump and repost of what I said in previous thread... Listen, Why bother getting into personal disagreements with the few people here who are clearly enjoying winding you up. I don't want to read about your ego's. Also we all know that vision is relative so we all see things differently. It doesn't matter about those who don't understand what we are complaining about. There are easily enough people stating their concerns about this issue to make it not only a valid point but one that should be at or near the top of a list for an official response. I want to read constructive discussion. Keep it on topic and focus on what the majority of us know is a serious issue. Just a thought but can you imagine the storm it would create if this had happened to be a triple A title FPS and the company responsible had handled it the way this has been so far? This has the potential to go one way or the other. Either it will turn out being a prime example of how not to treat your community and a huge embarrassment for all involved which considering the material and the sheer effort and money that have gone into the development would be a crime in my book. Or as the new week is starting we will finally get an official response, explanation and who knows, maybe even an apology. Let's maintain an equilibrium here and give them a chance to officially respond in the next day or two. If nothing happens in that time then I'm all for us escalating it and bringing it to the attention of other media sources. Although to be fair I'm sure a lot of them are already watching the situation very closely indeed. In the meantime, in memory of the orange pixel have fun all.

  18. Thanks to all involved with the game - so far I'm enjoying it immensely. One suggestion that would help. On the Galactic Map on your ship it would be much easier if the names of the space missions that each system contained were listed when you mouseover them (as are the planets) so we would not have to click into each system all the time searching for where the mission is. Keep up the good work. Many thanks!
  19. Same thing happenedd to me today. I am running two 6970's in Crossfire. I was on Tatooine and the lines where everywhere. I turned off Crossfire and the game ran normally. As this issue only occured after the patch then it's not a Catalyst issue. It must be a bug from the new game patch. Edit: The issue only occurs for me if I run the game in Windows XP SP3 compatability (I'm running Windows 7 64bit). Without the compatability option enabled the game runs fine in single or crossfire mode. But of course if you don't run the game in Windows XP SP3 mode then you don't get the framerate fix.
  20. I''m playing through as a Sith Inquisitor and enjoying the game immensely. Suddenly my character''s voice in cutscenes goes from suitably firm, deep and evil sounding to weak, distant and tinny. I figured out it''s a side effect of certain types of headgear you wear. I must say this is very disappointing. It completely changes my perception of the character I''m playing. It's one thing having an artificially altered voice that sounds deep and ''fits'' but another entirely when it sounds like someone speaking through a telephone from another country (or planet!) with the signal and tone being weak. The only way I can restore the voice to normal is to remove the headgear or replace it with something that does not affect the voice. But that would mean reducing my stats which clearly is not a suitable solution. Given the amount of money that must have been spent on voice acting for the game I''m surprised there isn''t an option to switch off the affected voice and just have it sounding normal whilst being able to wear whatever headgear you want. It''s a small thing but has a major impact on atmosphere and immersion for me. Has anyone else noticed this and agrees?
