  1. Well I have no doubt that BW wrote a lot of parts of it but the reason you buy an engine for hundreds of thousands of dollars(they don't come cheap) is so you can get up and running quick and don't have to spend much time writing the low level stuff like the render code ect where the real optimization is. You have a point that a lot of it is probably a lack of 'wanting' to rewrite it but this is because re-writing takes so much time away from programmers doing other things. Being a programmer myself if I had to rewrite major portions of our underlying code it means I'm not working on new features and bugs since re-writing is very time consuming depending on the scale of it. It could take a couple guys weeks or months. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison(different comps of course) but since the Rift video is obviously running the game in higher resolution and Rift includes a number of NPC's it's a rough comparison. Watch them both in 720p and ask yourself which engine would you buy? Rift 20v20(with NPC's) : Illum 30v30: BTW this video comparison is exactly what I'm experiencing on my system which is why when James Ohlen say's it's our hardware I say he's not being honest to us and towing the company line and spinning PR for his baby.
  2. Ya I canceled this game today primarily based on the performance. Unlike Rift, which had bad performance issues at launch but was able to fix it and now their game performs very well, BW can only tweek the engine so much since they didn't write it. I don't see them enabling hi-rez graphics until maybe a year our two out when they finally decided to overhaul the engine. I do therefore expect that there will be performance problems for the forseeable future. Their solution of enabling us to run the game at even lower resolution just reaffirms my belief they just aren't capable of making this game perform well with descent graphics. To put this in context I run this game on a GTX590(overclocked), very nearly the fastest card you can buy, and it's still a slideshow in Illum with a descent amount of people. I can guarntee it's the engine because I've been in Rift open world battles with just as many and the lag is far, far less and it's quite playable. Even while driving around the Republic hub the game hitches from time to time for some unknown reason. The game might perform descently with every graphic option set to the very lowest but honestly If I have to play the game looking like that it's not worth playing IMO.
  3. I can't speak for others but for myself I am cancelling this game today. I'm BM rank 64 and just the thought that I could play all week and make zero progress is enough to quit. My main reasons: -Dead & Lifeless world(see numerous youtube videos on this, search 'static swtor') -Poor performance -Nothing challenging in the game. -RNG of the Battlemaster bag grind( I know it's being changed but this is only one of the problems imo) -Too heavily instanced. -Feels like a Single Player game with multi player tacked on at the last 5% of development. -Ability delay when in Warzones. -Pointless world PvP compared to what 'other' games on the horizon are planning. -Slow to respond to game breaking issues, such as: * Illum FP camping which allowed Empire thousands of points of Valor due to this bug. And to think these gains were not rolled back???!!!! Unacceptable * Operative insta-killing people with 8k crits which took weeks to address. IMO Operatives are still overpowered in the fact that no class should be able to take a person to 1/2 HP before they can even react. * Warzones not giving credit. I can't count how many WZ's I won that didn't give credit for weeks before this was finally fixed. Did I get credit for these eventually? Of course not. -Worst and most limiting UI I've seen in an MMO since before WoW, and that was 2003. -No community support and just generally no emphasis on building a community inside or outside the game. Server forums would go along way towards this. Server group forums where we have to prefix every post with our server name? Seriously, why would you make me scroll through pages of posts just to find those from my server. I know I could use the search function but still, very lackluster. -Bioware lack of experience in an MMO. They've never made one and it shows. -Doubts about the Hero engine going forward. You can only tweek an engine so much so I really don't see BW all of a sudden allowing hi-res textures and having great performance in this game no matter what they do. -Economy is pretty pointless. Hey I have over 2,000,000 credits and really nothing to spend it on. -GTN filters still sometimes done work correctly and it's just not very user friendly. -Nothing innovative except voice acting & companions, everything else was a lesser carbon copy of WoW. Honestly i'd rather have something innovative I could experience every day not just the first 2 weeks of the MMO. VO was cool at first but eventually I, like I'm sure many others, would just space bar through it. Post 50 companions are pretty pointless too. I'd just assume have a crafting station at least you'd actually have a place where people might gather. Sorry if this post upsets some people but I owe to BW to explain why I'm leaving. Furthermore perhaps some of these issue apply to other people and because of posts like this the game will get better.
  4. Nope, will NOT re-sub. Here is why: -Post Level Cap = Worst MMO I've played. To all you guys that are sub 50 and saying you love the game, well, once you hit 50 there is no more story, no more exploring planets, no more space ship missions in essence no more of what was primarily hyped for this game, it's all gone. Imagine logging into your level 30 character and just running PvP or doing the same unchallenging flashpoint you did yesterday(no space missions, no story and stay in the exact same zone without leaving), now do that every day for 2 weeks and come back and tell us how much you 'love' the game. That is what awaits you at level 50. -Performance is the worst of any MMO I've played ever(running a gtx 590 mind you). -UI = Terrible and dated looking -Graphics = Stale -PvP = Horrible, horrible and I don't think the 'magic patch 1.2' will fix it. -Slow to respond. For anyone that played Rift, I mean, Trion would fix things immediately and certainly would have rolled back all those people that hit BM in 1 day due to the Illum bug. I'm still astonished that BW chose to just let that go and do nothing.
  5. NO000000! I'm absolutely positive I will not be playing this game long term. I think it's worth mentioning that this game is really 2 games in 1. There is the leveling 1 to 50 phase and the post 50 phase. Everything is really quite different in both of those and you almost need a seperate poll for each. I mention this because ALOT of the people I see saying 'Yes' seem to be sub 50 which is not suprising because the leveling experience isn't too bad and I may have said yes had you asked during my leveling experience. It's at the post 50 that reality sets in. Anyway here are my reason in order of importance. #1 - PvP design is an abomination. -Way too much CC, Stuns, ect. I don't care the reasoning it's just NOT FUN. -The BM RNG grinding(I know it's being changed but that's only because of a massive outcry) -FPS in WZ's and Illum brings my GTX590($700 video card!!!) to it's knees. -World PvP in Illum is the world PvP we were told we would be 'blown away' by? Hardly -No World PvP on a PvP server(outside of Illum). What's even the point of PvP servers? -No point to world PvP or PvP at all. Rankings? Nope. Server vrs Server? Nope. Tourneys Nope. Yes, yes, I know it's coming but this game is released in 2012 not 2000 those should have been in launch. #2 - Dead, Lifeless, Boring, Stagnant, Monotone, Uninspired Worlds. -As a creator of this game how you, in good conscience, look at the world as seen HERE and tell us you put any effort into creating these worlds? -So heavily instanced that you hardly see another soul while leveling reinforcing the lifeless husk of a world. #3 Overall World design -There is no reason to ever go back to planets once you reach 50. All you do is sit in Illum collecting valor and go to your faction hub to turn in the quest, that's about it. #4 PvE. Haven't done any heavy PvE but I mean couldn't you at least put something in where the top guilds could be challenged. Wow had Nef, Rift has Akylos, what legendary boss does Swtor have? #5 Loading Screens and loading times. -Why is it that Skyrim and load an entire huge area with 10x the detail of a Swtor planet in 1/10 the time? Mind you even going to a planet where there wasn't a soul around would be painfully slow on my raptor HD. -Honestly do we really need to go from our ship to orbital station to planet. How bout from ship to planet, it's silly running through an empty corridor that means nothing just to get to the planet. #6 Space Combat. -Should have just used those resources to flesh out a better end game or pvp system. I only used space combat when leveling. I know, I know, things are 'in the works', as well they should be for collecting millions of $ a month however in it's current form it's pretty much pointless and once you reach 50 you never do a space mission again. #7 Overall Game design -It seems as though everything in this game was designed to appeal to the person that first picks up the game such as leveling, voice acting, story and space missions however barely a nueron of though was put into what a person will do once they reach 50. I understand the basic premiss...you hook em in in the beginning then by the time they are 50 they've invested so much time they will want to keep playing. You'll add stuff later, the main things is to put 99% of all resources into the initial experience. #8 Choice of Hero Engine. Nuff said. #9 Lack of Server Forums. Seriously $200,000,000 and you couldn't even give each server it's own forum to build a community? At least with that there might be some semblance of community on your server. #10 Bugs. -WZ not giving credit for wins that went on what seems like forever. -Bugged PvE encounts. -Tons of other bugs not going to spend time going over them since others have already. #11 The Interface. -Really, no movable windows? Hero Engine FTW again!.

Quote: Originally Posted by badseed more cc's then any other MMO ? hmmm.. fears sheep stuns slows roots silences snares blind/disorient gripped interrupted cyclone sap or knock backs knock downs stuns roots blind gripped interrupted snares lifted sap It means they did a good job COPYING World of Warcraft practically verbatim. Since they claim to be open to constructive criticism here is my criticism: Remove 1/2 of the CC in this game. When designing Swtor BW took the one thing they knew people liked (voice acting) and the rest of it was shamelessly copied from WoW, with zero innovation on their part. Problem is they don't do it nearly as good. They figured if WoW has CC, people must love it, so why reinvent the wheel? They didn't stop to think if it was actually fun to spend 1/2 your time CC'ing others and breaking CC. FYI it's NOT fun! The fun is using your array of abilities to help your allies, attack and counter your foes similar to say a fast paced chess game. Imagine playing chess though where every 3rd move each person gets to CC an opponents chess piece anywhere on the board. Would that make chess more fun or would that just make it frustrating and stupid? You decide.
  7. Flourish shot , Sab charge, aimed shot, charged burst, trick shot. To me this is the most optimal burst IF u have time to set it up. Yes aimed is 2.5 but popping illegal mods helps with that. You basically get the Sab, aimed, charged and trick really quick to get them to sub 30. Then speeds hot as long as possible before quick draw, if the run after the initial burst and below 30 of course QuickDraw.
  8. To reiterate my point on attention to detail and ambient sounds in a game I would point to this video HERE. Not to mention the epic 1v1 against a thief @ 8:30 in. Not a GW2 fanboi just demonstrating ambient sounds done right and what an impact it can have on the game of which I would love to see more in Swtor.
  9. I've never played an MMO with so many CC + Stun + Snare + Root but everything else. Not sure the thinking behind this but I don't enjoy getting CC to holy hell and only getting a few abilities off. Also now it seems everyone has those stun grenades(another STUN!) that throw your char on the ground wiggling. Constructive critisism suggestion: 1 Stun per character on a 3 min coodown. 18:20 in of this video HERE compares to Swtor in regards to stun.
  10. You should just bite the bullet and re-roll Republic on Dark Reaper, probably the heaviest pop PvP server(west cost). Take solice in the fact that server transfers will be coming and you will be able to transfer your characters over. WZ pretty much pop instantly as Republic and there is a good overall population. I only say this because it seems you're willing to put some time into the game so yes re-rolling is tough but Dark Reaper will never be a dead server and you could just Warzone yourself to 50. If DR is dead then you can bet TOR will be dead. Heck I will eve personally give you 200K credits(PM me if you do reroll with your char name) to help you level faster. I've got so much money and nothing to spend it on so I'd like to help others.
  11. A few things I've noticed about GW2. 1. The ambient sound effects are probably the best I've ever heard in a game judging from the demos which really lends itself to the feeling of immersion. I mean people in plate running by sound different than people in cloth, that's pretty cool. 2. It seems the Anet developers really have a love for the game and are extremely detail oriented. In contrast you look at the UI in Swtor, it's functional, nothing more. You look at the worlds, somewhat (well highly) static and not much of an alive feeling. Look at Nar Shadaa it's got square rooms and some npc's, a few ambient effects I guess(steam ect) but still very blaaa and it's one of the better worlds. It's like they said, ok we need to whip this world out, plop down some NPC's and get on to the next world. Either that or the Hero engine doesn't allow for many ambient effect without huge lag. I've spent my fair share of time in Swtor (lvl 63 BM) and when I think about it, and maybe this is just me, but I just don't feel like there was really a love affair by the designers when developing this game with FUN in mind. Seems like they were more concerned with just capitalizing on the Star Wars IP and getting something out in a basic form. The writters however do deserve kudos. I think the writting is really superb so I can't place any blame on them.

    Bag 80+ BM

After today's empty bag 2/23, just saying. Not arguing the statistical probability of 2/23 just reiterating worst...system..ever...in an mmo. It's all I can do to just log in and have the nerves of steel to do the pvp daily, knowing that it's quite likely at the end of it I'm left with zero, zilch, nada progression wise after a couple hours.
  13. Yes I'm glad I'm not the only one that caught that. BW had 5 Years to come up with a PvP loot system and the current bag system is what they decided on. Either: A) in 5 years this bag system is the best system you could come up with and now because of subscription loss and/or negative community feedback your scrapping it but are trying to imply it was interim all along...uhh huh. or B)If it was 'interim' as you say then you admittedly pushed a beta product on us and we're paying to test your unfinished game while waiting for the 'finished pvp reward design' . I know an MMO is never 'finished' but certain foundational things like LOOT should be working on launch for a $100,000,000 product. Finally if in 5 years you couldn't come up with an acceptable bag system(remember the current system is 'interim' by your accounts) how are we to believe in 1 month you can pull it off? If you would have just copied the Rift or WoW system I think everyone would have been happy. I never saw anyone complain about the Rift PvP gear progression since it's logical and has stable progression; whereas the current bag system is a step back.
  14. Yea! 2 more bags with nothing to go with my 4 bags of nothing yesterday. Brings me to 2/22. The important thing is statistically other people should be at about 5-6 tokens by now which does me tons of good and certainly makes me want to keep playing!. I'm not arguing the statistics, they are what they are, I just whole completely disagree with whomever made the decision to gear up battlemasters this way and I would love for them to come to the forums, explain their reasoning and let us know what, if anything is going to change in the future. That doesn't seem too much to ask since customers actually determine success or failure of a game, not some guy hiding in a boardroom.
  15. To the people that say it's just statistics deal with it and stop complaining I have this to say.... We're not complaining the statistics are wrong and if I got 2/20 which is 10% then that's perfectly valid. However it's also statistically possible that some person could go 5 years playing 3 hours a day an not get anything. How can you say it's perfectly valid for a person that does one 10 minute warzone to get rewarded beyond a person that plays 5 years. Yes these are extreme examples of course, but not that extreme and it's statistically 100% possible. I am sure the rate is 25% but with that 25% your saying a select few will have a horrible time BM gear wise and that's perfectly acceptable. It may not matter to those in the middle of the statistic but it matters to those at the very bottom when they pay the same $15/month and put in as much or more time as others. I remember hearing a story of a young girl walking on a beach with her father and there were thousands of starfish hopelessly stranded on the sand. The young girl went up to one of the starfish and put it back in the ocean to which the father said 'Why even bother? There are thousands of starfish and it won't make a difference'. To which the young girl replied 'It makes a difference to this one'. The point is yes a vast majority will see the 25% but somewhere out there one person will likely be the 0/100 bags guy and a change to this system will matter to him(or her).
