I'm a vet SWG player and one of my favorite things about that games was how you unlocked the end game content. For those that haven't played there is quest lines for each of the end game raids that have to be completed (only once) to unlock the raid. So here is my idea for adding in Nightmare only bosses to swtor using more or less the same idea.
1) You would start with solo content, 1-2 hours worth, say 5-6 missions spanning 3-4 planets maybe even a space mission or two (that your ship would have to be geared for). During these missions the Big Bad (for this post we will call him Bob) shows his face and you chase him ect.
2) Enter group content in the form of Heroics, say 2 or 3. Players would be able to start building up a group that is on the same content as them. They could also introduce a Heroic 8 here with transport at the end of it to the NiM content. Again this should span more then 1 planet and maybe even add a Heroic to the fleet. And although this goes with saying Bob would have to show up in these Heroics.
3) Make Bob hard. (stop laughing that's not what i mean) My idea to make bosses harder has always been to add more random factors to them. Give him like 12 different types of adds to randomly chose from. Program him with different strats to use and have him randomly chose one at the start of the fight and maybe even change part way through. Make his boss buffs random but connected to the random strat that is in use. I could go on but I think I have made my point. Also keep him unlocked only tell he is defeated, then reset the mission line back to part 1.
If this was done well it could also be placed in the game as part of the event system. Give players a NiM bonus boss for say 4 months, and then right about the time players are saying Bob is easy he goes away and gets replaced with Jayne. This would give end game repeatable content that isn't just your daily go here get X number of these. It would also push players towards story driven group content, which if I remember right is a goal of Bioware's in the game.
There are a few things I would be willing to accept for this:
Voice acting - I just went through 55 levels of voice acting and love it, however I would not fault Bioware for there only being text and terminals.
The content time - The content doesn't need to be really long but i would like it to take at least 2 play sessions. And it needs to be well thought out, good content is always better then long content.
This is just the idea I have and I think it would be enjoyable.
