  1. Hey guys, been a bit since I checked back in. Just another friendly reminder that we're looking for quality, friendly players!
  2. Unfortunately, the closest thing we currently have for dual-spec is the legacy perk to respec anywhere alongside free respecs. That said, it's a damn handy perk if you enjoy playing multiple specs, be they PvE and PvP tank, PvE DPS/Tank etc, etc. Only costs 200k, which is pretty easy to come by.
  3. ^^ This x1000. Revan wasn't anything special... He was a mediocre character with no real character, same with Meetra Surik, until the Revan novel. By that time he'd been built way beyond what he really was. I was more than happy to put him down like a rabid dog.
  4. Just another friendly reminder, we're always looking for quality, friendly players!
  5. While I've only just started using my Vanguard in end-game ops, I've been tanking on my Guardian and Shadow since launch. Many people complain about Guardians lack of threat, and while that's true about aoe, if your DPS give you two GCD's on a boss pull, you'll have very little problem with single target threat. The survivability that's inherent of the Guardian is just crazy, the cooldowns they have will allow you to survive things that other tanks wouldn't without a load of intervention from healers. And if you are losing threat to a particular DPS, there's always Guardian Leap (not to mention guarding that pesky dps'er, but all tanks can and should do that). Shadow is a lot of fun, and takes a lot of extra work to keep up to par. The light armor is not really a detriment as their Combat Technique/Dark Charge not only dramatically increases their threat but also increases their armor and damage mitigation. Pared with self heals from Harnessed Shadows, Combat Technique and Force Breach, that takes care of most survivability problems. They have a very strong defensive cooldown with Resilience, though Guardians get their own version in 2.0. Shadows excel at aoe threat, which is nice on trash, not so useful on bosses, and have excellent single target threat as well. From my limited time with my Vanguard, I like him... but he feels weak to me. Their defensive cooldowns are exceedingly weak, and are on a very long cooldown for as limited as they are. Their aoe threat is, imo, almost on par with a Shadows and their single target threat is about standard. All-in-all, I'd suggest finding what you'll be tanking alongside if you want a varied tank group, and find one that compliments what you'll be tanking with. That aside, play what you like, they're all very fun to tank with and in the hands of a skilled player, any one of them can excel.
  6. Been a lil bit since I've checked this posting, just another shameless plug for us. We do have an Imperial sister guild, however we are predominately Republic Guild. If you're looking for a good community to play with, come check us out!
  7. Just another shameless bump. Give us a shout, we'd love to have you with us!
  8. Just a friendly bump to keep it up on the relevant page. More than happy to have anyone who is interested.
  9. Server: The Harbinger - PvE US West Faction: Republic Guild Focus: Player Vs. Environment Timezone Scheduling: Pacific Imperial Guild: Yes - Tartarus Voice Chat: Yes - Ventrilo Resources: Guild Portal Site with Forums, Facebook group Contacts: Madroth (Guild Leader, alts - Madekos, Madax), Kyslar (Recruitment Officer, alts - Kyslauq, Kyslai, Kyslid), Azzyryth (Raid Leader, alts - Kædus, Juggerpage), Dayleph (Guild Banker, alts - Blayke), Lanurai (Creative Events Leader, alts - ), Ayraa (Recruitment Lieutenant, alt - ) Progression: 8-Man Eternity Vault - 5/5 Nightmare Karagga's Palace - 5/5 Nightmare Explosive Conflict - 3/4 Hard Terror From Beyond - 5/5 Story Operation Times: Friday 7PM-10PM PST - Farm run, varying of full clear on HM EV/KP or SM EC/TFB focusing on gearing new recruits and/or fresh 50's Saturday 8PM-11PM PST - Progression run consisting of the most advanced run our team is currently geared for. We'd been hitting HMEC and progressing quite well. Elysium is a semi-casual PvE focused guild, looking to expand our horizons. We originally formed on Harbinger during early release, but moved to Darth Sion due to overinflated queue times originally, and have since moved back, via Drooga's Pleasure Barge. For being semi-casual, we have a good mix of experienced raiders who are wanting to push farther into the harder Operations the Old Republic offers. We were making excellent strides until we hit a road block some of our core raiders decided to explore other gaming opportunities. We typically only raid six hours a week as scheduled events, though we've been known to pull together impromptu runs during off-raid times. We have a farm run set aside for gearing alts, new recruits and fresh fifties, as well as to give the more casual raiders a chance to see the end game Operations in a friendly environment. We also have a progression run for the more hard-core raiders, those of us who enjoy the challenge of fighting the most difficult PvE bosses the game has to throw at us and don't mind a bit of face-smashing while we learn new mechanics. While we are PvE focused, we do have a small crowd of PvP'ers, often times playing in the 10-49 bracket, as well as a small group in the 50's bracket. While it's not our primary focus, many of us do enjoy the challenge of going up against other players periodically. We also host several server-wide creative events, from bounty-hunting, to role-playing, to datacron hunts, as well as hosting and co-hosting free runs for the +10 fleet datacron. If you're looking for a friendly, respectful place to call your own, I'd love to be given the opportunity to prove ourselves to you. You can contact any of our Officers via in-game whispers or mail, drop a reply on this post, or check us out at our guildportal site, http://www.elysium.torportal.com. We ask all members to have posted an application on-site, so if you're at all interested, please be sure to check us out!
  10. Couldn't disagree more. The Yuushan Vong were some of my favorite villains they've brought out yet. It was nice seeing the Jedi, Republic and Empire all on their heels for most of the fight, and fighting something other than themselves and the Sith. They needed a common enemy to unite the Republic and the Empire.
  11. I completely agree with the OP. I have three toons who have no use for drops, have very limited use for BH Comms, but I enjoy running Flashpoints as I really enjoy the content. The rampant skipping anything and everything in sight, the abuse of the exhaustion zones to facilitate it and the complete lack of respect for those who wish to do the FP properly are horrible. To those of you who say "get a guild, run it with them", I'm in a guild, when we have guildies on we typically hit an Operation or run some War Zones. When there's few people on to do stuff with that's when I prefer to run a FP. I've pretty much quit tanking HMFP's due to the complete lack of respect for those who want to do FP's properly, which is a damn shame seeing as those three 50's are all tanks, which puts people in an even longer queue. I totally agree with the person who states the abuse of this system should be considered an exploit!
  12. Disney purchased the rights for profit. They paid 4.5 BILLION dollars, they do in fact own the rights. That said, they're not going to do something that's going to wreck the profitability of the franchise. Look at Marvel after the acquisition, they opened their own movie production studio, and have published some of the best stories in years imo. I have full faith that they're not going to wreck the series, the main worry I personally have is how badly they're going to mess with EU continuity with these new movies.
  13. Soresu ("Guard") form is primarily used by Defense specced Guardians. As a tank, it's our job to soak the damage from Operations/Flashpoint bosses so that damage dealers can focus on damaging those bosses, and healers can focus their heals on one to two people rather than four to eight.
  14. My favorite are the world drop Assault cannons with Cunning and Defense/Shield Rating. For those tanking Commando/Smugglers
  15. Not really... for the launch Operations, all you really need is 1 tank for both 8 and 16m, 2/4 healers for 8/16 man. Come 1.2, supposedly you'll end up needing 2 tanks, but the number of healers/dps remain the same.
  16. For further evidence, look at Corran Horn and Mirax Terrik, or Jaina Solo and Jagged Fel. Both were Jedi romances (Corran and Jaina being Jedi, Mirax and Jag being non-Jedi) that did not lead the Jedi to darkness due to the Jedi in question being able to master ones emotions, and act while serene and at peace.
  17. True, it can lead to the dark side, which is why it's frowned upon, but it does not always lead to the dark side, therefore it is not completely forbidden. A Jedi should be able to put his emotions aside, for the greater good. Look at Anikan, had he been able to detatch his emotions and not get angsty over Padme's fate, his relationship would've been just fine. However, he couldn't let her go, he did what he thought had to be done to save her, never mind the countless others who ended up suffering from his actions. Yes, they grieve, yes, they hurt, but they don't act upon those feelings.
  18. Dark Jedi and Sith are entirely different. Sith are a different philosophy and teaching. Yes, you can be dark and still believe in the majority of the principles of the Jedi. And again, love, emotion and marriage do not lead to the dark side. Don't believe me? Check Nomi Sunrider, Luke Skywalker, and countless other Jedi.
  19. BZZZZT, totally incorrect interpretation of the code. It doesn't have anything to do with being emotionless, passionless robots, it's about how, when and why a Jedi acts. "There is no emotion, there is peace." A Jedi does not allow his emotions to take control of him. Only when a Jedi is peaceful, and in control of his emotions does he act. "There is no ignorance, there is knowledge" A Jedi gathers information before acting, he doesn't jump into a situation without weighing the consequences of his actions. "There is no passion, there is serenity" A Jedi does not let his passions control him, only when he is serene can he understand the will of the Force and properly act upon it. He serves the Force and its will, not the other way around. "There is no death, there is the Force" For a Jedi, there is no death. When one passes from this realm of existence, he becomes one with the Force, transcending death. Nowhere in the Code does it say anything about not being able to love, or marry. In many eras Jedi were free to fall in love and marry as they see fit. In many other eras, even when Jedi weren't supposed to marry, they'd make exceptions for certain members. In the rise of the Empire (prequel) era, Ki-Adi-Mundi, a Master from the Council, was given permission to marry due to how difficult it was for his species to procreate.
  20. Honestly, there are very few books out there I did not enjoy, Dark Saber and Splinter of the Minds Eye being chief among them. I honestly don't understand the hate for the Yuzzhan Vong, they're honestly one of my favorite series. It's not often that you get to see the Republic or the Jedi constantly getting their teeth in, it's kind of interesting seeing everyone as a refugee, scuttling for their lives. That said, I honestly believe practically anything that Karen Traviss published to be utter trash. She has absolutely no respect for the source material, or the fans of the source material.
  21. Ok... So my guild is getting ready for our first forray into Operations. We've currently got 12 lvl 50's, but a lot of them are tanks and healers. We currently have four tanks, five healers and four dedicated DPS. That said, what is the "normal" group make up for Operations, both 8 and 16 man? Would a group of two tanks three healers and the rest DPS work for 16 man, or would we be over cautious? Should we be trying to get some of our tanks and healers to back off and head over to DPS? Any help would be appreciated.
  22. Sweet, thanks for the responses guys, hoping to get started on those this coming weekend. Also on a side note, from what I've read, it seems Operations only need one tank? I'm really hoping I've read that wrong as both my guild leader and myself have been gearing as main tanks, been tanking together for the last four years, and we have I believe two other tanks in the guild currently. We're thinking of getting two eight-man teams running, but doing so, would it be wise to have our tanks ready a DPS set and be prepared to respec some raid nights? Thanks again for the responses and information!
  23. I tried to do a few searches, but couldn't find a good answer. My guild is just getting our influx of first fifties, and we're wondering where to start on the Hardmode Flashpoints, i.e. which ones are the "easier" ones to get our feet wet with, and which would be best if we had some prior gear for. If it makes any difference, we're Republic.
  24. In case you missed the point of my rant, which appears some of you did.
