  1. I personally prefer to call out east/west over right/left. Seems to reduce confusion slightly.

why add any element of thought to it? Snow side and grass side. It's that simple. No one needs to check maps or pay attention to direction.

    Snow side, grass side. Middle.

  2. In order to resurrect PvP in this game, they need:

    1. Arenas

    2. Rated Warzones

    3. More Warzones

The direction of the game has already been set. In other words, rewards based, no risk PvP is the direction.

It's too late to make PvP meaningful in a world where PvE is king. This is what happens when you make gear wholly important for your character to compete and function. Even the PvP is PvE. So make your rewards, go the way of WoW. The direction makes plenty of money. Stop breaking things like Ilum on a constant basis. Transform it into Wintergras/AV whatever you want. It's not the formula or the ideas. It's the system itself. It can't be "fixed" for a pure PvPers perspective.

If anyone thought going into this that it would be going in a completely different direction from WoW, you are/were kidding yourselves. There are way too many people that call themselves PvPers but are simply disguised PvEers. If you feel that your grind should be worth something in PvP, you are PvE'ing. If you feel that your gear should improve over time, you are really PvE'ing. Char progression is about PvE. Player killing is about PvP. Mixing the two causes a bunch of crybabies to ***** about PvP balance.

There literally was nothing wrong with any of the classes in this game except the possibility of too many sorcerers/sages in a Warzone doing burst AOE damage. Instead they went ahead and nerfed stuff that people simply cried about, the vocal minority comprised of idiots.

If you don't believe me, go look at pure PvP games like Shadowbane was back in '03/'04. People whined and cried to each other about which guilds were attacking their cities, which guilds were the "zerg" guilds, which guilds were the *******es and which were the good guys. They didn't argue about which purples should have which stat, or which stat should be removed, or which warzones (it was all world PvP) had exploits, or which classes were too powerful. If you want to PvP, if you call yourself a PvPer, then sit back, relax, and wait for a real PvP game (possibly forever) to be made in the MMORPG genre again. This and WoW are not, were not, and never will be real PvP.

Until then, I am enjoying the slaughtering of undergeared, low skilled "PvPers" in my BM gear.

Unfortunately, I think you're right in that they can't fix their setup. However, BW makes nerfs based on metrics. I don't think they nerf other classes just upon the premise of crybabies.

  3. I find pvp fun. That's meaning enough for me.

Ok, cool. But how much more fun would you be having if you not only enjoyed PvP combat but also had a purpose to it. What if you were actually fighting a war rather than just pretending to?

I'm willing to bet my subscription on the premise that you would enjoy PvP much more if you were actually accomplishing something other than gear. If I'm wrong, well, oh well I'm unsubbing when my 35 days are up anyway. I'll check back later when this game has more content after 50.

  4. They need to revamp world pvp (I have faith they will) ... also Rated WZs are coming which will add another cool element to pvp and keep you working towards something.

Yes but what's the POINT of it all? We are, after all, supposed to be at WAR right? I don't feel like I'm at war with anything.

When I log off, I have no worries for my faction. I'm not worried about the war going on in this universe at all. There is nothing to worry about. Reps and Imps are simply all working towards one common goal, gearing themselves for d**k measuring purposes.

When you log off, do you worry about how your faction will do when you're not in the SW universe? Do you worry about losing control of Ilum, which we are supposed to be fighting over? Do you wonder how you can get the upper hand over the Reps (ignoring the fact that we vastly outnumber them)? Do the "War Zones" actually matter at all to the war between our two factions?

No, PvP is completely and utterly pointless, just like in WoW. The only thing casual and hard core PvPers alike have to work for is gear. That's it. They can't work towards bettering their faction. They can't fight a war. They can't do anything but farm valor and gear up.

This is a huge problem for a story driven MMO. If you want everyone to care about the story, then they need to feel like they are a part of the story. Not only do I feel like I'm not a part of the story, but I can't connect with this Star Wars universe at all.

  5. 1) PvP that is relevant to the game, its story, and the factions - not just centered around gearing just for the hell of gearing. More world PvP. Less focus on instanced. DAoC, Dominus system. (Think about it. WZs are like mini-games who's sole purpose is a valor farm. They are otherwise irrelevant to the game. Ilum is boring, imbalanced, and worthless to the game with the exception of being an open-world valor farm.)

    2) Wins count toward daily

    3) Some way of mitigating the population imbalance

  6. This is purely for PvPers. PvEers we know you bum the game, blah-blah ... great, go back to your own forums before you start mouthing off.

    Anyways, PvPers!

This isn't a whiney thread, though if you interpret it to be go for it :D idc ;)

But from the PvP-side of ToR 10-49 is a lot of fun. Do you hit L50 and kind of get the 'OK, now ... where's the rest of the game?' feeling?

There's other threads where people have made comments akin to this ... but doesn't this kind of feel like a Beta? 3 taster maps (that are relatively broken - Alderan speeder insta-spawn/ say goodbye to doors 2-6 on VS when you hit 50).

It just feels like ... yeah, this game would have a lot of potential. I can't wait for the full game to come out! Wait ... wut?!

I appreciate that they're bringing another WZ in a month's time ... but 1 more?? How many days before we know all the insides and out of that and the hunger is still unbearable?

With World PvP, what CAN they do with Ilum? The place is far too big, nothing to do, hugely imbalanced faction-wise on most servers ... there's not a patch that can fix that, that requires almost a complete overhaul.

I'm just wondering if anyone else feels that BW has put all its eggs in one-basket and hoping for more is a pipe-dream?

If you're enjoying the game, good for you - I don't wish to ruin the experience for you and hope you continue to enjoy it :) For me personally, it just feels ... incomplete, perhaps?

    Any thoughts?

No, you're not alone. I said in your other thread, there is no point to PvP except gear. It has as no effect on the game, just as space missions have no effect on the game. It's pointless, and it just feels like....wait I enjoyed 1-49 now *** do I do?

PvP w/o meaning is just a d**k measuring contest b/w those with gear and those w/o. We accomplish nothing through PvP w/ exception of gearing ourselves and our companions. So....yea the entire endgame feels incomplete. I truly thought that PvP would be tied to the story with this being so story focused and all, but BW apparently didn't see the need to make PvP meaningful.

  7. 5.) Take gear out of the mix when it comes to pvp. i guess these people propose we do it naked to make it fair for them.

You know, this wouldn't be a problem if the entire purpose of the PvP aspect of the game wasn't just to gear. Why play WZ? To get valor for gear. They are irrelevant to the game. Why play Ilum? To get gear and valor. Otherwise it's irrelevant to the game.

When the whole purpose of PvP is JUST to get gear, then it just becomes a race to see who can get geared first. That means all the casuals will be pissed. Simple solution is PvP shouldn't purely be about getting gear. Gear should be something you get along the way, something you get while attempting to do something greater. PvP just needs more relevance.

But in the meantime, "yo ima gamer that goez HARD every DAY! This all I does eryday! Hustle! Hustle! Hustle! HARD!!!! I so f*n hard core man, and I tired of theze CAS playerz complaining that dey gotta life! BW man, quit letting the cas playas enjoy PvP, cuz they don't deserve that! If they caint sacrifice everything in their life and dedicate 5 hrs eryday to PvP grind then they can go play uh FPS man!

Give me something to GRIND!!!!!! I jus wanna grind baby so I can be duh bes!!!!!!!!! Man, f*** Papa Johns man Ima call in today cuz I wanna hit valor 80! Man, screw this geometry assignment I don need good gradz in high school! Imma hard core PvPer!!! Hustle! Hustle! Hustle! HARD!!!!"

  8. Wait wait wait.

Is this seriously a thread complaining this game isnt Casual enough?

The same game that i leveled to 50 in playing as CASUAL as can be over the time span of 2 weeks and the same game that has given me 60% of my pvp gear, again playing as CASUAL as can be?

Christ, i wish you people could go back and play an old MMO. One that actually required "no-life" grind sessions.

i'm pretty sure he is making fun of casual gamers....

  9. no casual gamer would use the word "ergo", especially if they were the alpha male getting loads of vag b/w WZ matches

    but this was funny

  10. I agree with most of what the OP says. I waited anxiously for this game since 2009. It severely disappointed me after I hit 50.

Everything before 50 was awesome..with exception of PvP until this latest patch which rendered 1-49 PvP better.

This game ends at 50. Reroll another character. Reroll again. Repeat until subscription ends. Play ME3, and wait for a better MMO to come out.

This is just WoW with lightsabers. I heard that over and over, but I didn't believe it until I played the game after level 50.

  11. My original thread got locked due to "Unspecified copmparsions between two games"

In cosy TLDR (ok it isnt that TL;DR anymore!) fashion, I adjusted my comparsions every bit as specified as I possibly can.

    I present you a question!

Is it end game of TOR or WoW I speak of here?

Any combination of questing, dungeons and PvP took you to max. lvl! Congratulations!

Here is your schedule for future:

    • Grind repeatable daily quest chains for tokens you use to buy gear and various vanity items
    • Spend a little time gearing up in max lvl normal dungeons, then move to hard modes of the said dungeons. While doing so, you keep getting various tokens you can use to buy better gear and accessories.
    • Soon enough you are geared enough for raiding! Normal modes are pretty easy and accessible. There is hard mode requiring better gear and more effort
    • Max. lvl PvP is it's own seperate, isolated entity disconnected from rest of the end game. You grind Warzones for reputation and a currency. You can use this curreny to buy PvP gear. It is a rough start and takes a while til you begin to feel remotely competitive. Vetter gear you have, easier it is to grind for the next tier.
    • You can also acquire PvP items in a zone dedicated for world PvP. It suffers from balance issues and lag. Actual rewards in no way differ from stuff you get through War Zones.
    • A mechanism is in place to ensure most of the PvE gear doesn't make good PvP gear and vice versa.
    • Even on PvP server, there is nothing in game mechanics that would encourage or suppoort any larger scale World PvP outside one or two zones specially dedicated for it.

Are you talking about WoW or TOR? :)

  12. No, I am not happy with this game at all. I like the PvE aspect of the game. I like the combat b/w players. That's it. I really hope BW reads this post.

Primarily, I don't wake up and get anxious to log in and be a part of this universe. I don't sit and wonder how the war is going. I don't go to bed worrying about how my faction is doing in the war w/o me, or if there will be a surprise attack by the republic leaving my faction lying in waste when I wake up. Instead, I just ask myself, do I feel like doing my dailies today? Most of the time the answer is, "No, I really just don't care. Ilum is probably quiet, and I really don't feel like getting centurian commendations." I dislike the entire endgame, and I can only play other characters b/c I'm bored of my level 50. Other reasons being:

    1) Ilum is boring and not relevant to the game's future story...it seems.

    2) There are no benefits to controlling Ilum for my faction...other than valor gains.

    3) The whole PvP setup is broken: gearing takes far too long w/ this horrible RNG system. Gear is the only benefit to doing PvP. People use PvP as a means to an end, being gear, rather than to actually combat each other.

    4) The crafting is totally useless. I enjoy crafting in my free time, but I'm an artifice so it provides me zero benefit. I can't use the cool saber I want to craft b/c it would be useless in PvP. Exploring the planets to find more mysterious quests that allow me to find rare items or materials for crafting would be cool, but atm I've only seen this happen with a world boss on Belsavis.

    5) Huttball isn't a warzone, it's a sport. It's only problem is that it is far too common.

    6) The WZs seems to have no effect on the game story. Thus they are just pointless instance battles for farming valor.

    7) The FPs are good, but again they provide me no benefit so I will only do them if I am just bored.

    8) Ilum FPS is still too low, and my computer isn't the problem.

    9) The populations are far too imbalanced. I'm playing a Rep character now, but one man can't balance out the issues. I think the mistake was not having a third faction.

    10) Juggernaut Smash move isn't truly instant even though it says it is. I constantly get interrupted, thrown, or stunned while doing the animation. Not only did my instant move not work, but then I have to wait for the move to come off CD.

    11) There's zero mystery to this entire Star Wars universe it seems (w/ the exception of class stories), and SWG did a much better job of making more things mysterious. In fact, SWG was far better at immersing you in the Star Wars universe, making you feel like you lived there.

    12) This galaxy doesn't even feel like it's at war. I know I'm not fighting a war. I'm just doing little skirmishes be it instanced or in Ilum. This game just feels exactly like WoW. Nothing in the game's universe matters at all except gear. Everything is centered around gear. There is no war. The war is just a false sense of reason to fight each other. Really we just fight for gear. FPs are a bit better at seeming important. But again, there is no reason for me to do FP unless I just feel bored enough.

This game feels just as pointless as WoW. It feels exactly like WoW. I have no interest in resubbing after my 40 days are up.

This is the first BW game I've played where I'm interested in the story, but I don't FEEL like playing the game because it all seems so pointless.

So, again, no I am not happy with the game's state. I just can't wait for ME3. I'm anxious to actually feel something in that galaxy.

  13. The fact that PvP setup is crap means I wont be resubbing after my 40 days left. I think the combat is actually good, and they did a good job with PvP combat in general.

It's the gearing **** we have to put up with. It's the crappy setup of Ilum. It's the inability to somewhat balance out the servers. It's the complete lack of feeling that PvP on Ilum actually matters. It's the lack of rewards for owning Ilum. It's the amount of boredom I have with constant huttball (which really isn't a "war zone") in the first place. It's the fact that 1/3 of all my WZ wins don't count. It's my utter boredom with this PvP endgame.

Right now, I'm just enjoying playing other characters, mostly on Rep side since they have so few.
