SPOILER WARNING.. Iokath Republic or Empire

I've seen some old threads on this but my biggest concern is that if I pick a side I'll lose either Lana or Theron, both of whom I like very much. If I choose Republic will I lose Lana? And how will the story be effected from here on out?

I have a BH who thinks the Empire are self destructive ***** he just liked their money; in particular he hated the Sith. And he thinks the Republic are a bunch of delusional do-gooders. He doesn't really like either of them.

He would not give the weapon to either of them. Yes the Empire helped him and the Republic did not, BUT he knows how corrupt and evil Sith can be up close and personal. And yes the Jedi are sanctimonious, but they're not homicidal maniacs. And although he does love Lana, she doesn't act very sith-like.

Don't know why I'm agonizing over this.

Lana and Theron both stay with you regardless of what you choose.

The only consequence so far in terms of companions is whether Elara Dorne or Malavai Quinn joins the Alliance.

Oh thanks! I really like both characters a lot.

But really on the effect of your choice? I was reading that your story is effected but that's not much of an effect.

Change wise ...

It'll kill off either Acina or Malcom

Quinn or Dorna (But you can claim the other from the Odessen computer)

It'll change who you'll fight on Umbara in story mode

A line in the Copero flashpoint

and a few lines here aqnd there on Ossus.

It appears that summoning Quinn/Elara from the terminal was either a bug, and 5.10.1 fixed that, or 5.10.1 broke that. On my main, a Sage, I sided with the Republic on Iokath and later retrieved Quinn from the terminal. When I finally stared Ossus after 5.10.1 Quinn was moved to Unavailable and can not be retrieved from the terminal. But on my Sorc, who sided with the Republic and retrieved Quinn from the terminal, after starting Ossus I still had both Quinn and Elara.

Old topic, I realize, and nothing really to add to the conversation, but I just needed to vent my frustration that I'm having to choose, as a Trooper, between the Empire that actually backed me up and losing out on one of my companions that I had gotten up to a decent level of influence. If it weren't for Elara being completely locked out, I would have chosen the Empire because the Republic left the Alliance in the lurch while the Empire came to our aid. We had a treaty with the Empire. But if I choose the Empire, Elara just is unsummonable from then on??? What the crap? Bad writing, in my opinion. Bad choice. In reality, I would have made them both back off, but when push comes to shove, I would have chosen the Empire since THEY FREAKING HELPED SAVE THE GALAXY!!! The one time they make your choice mean something with actual long term effects, and this is it???

I've literally agonized over this decision for days. I keep telling myself that this is just a game and it has no real life consequences, but it still just feels scummy.

Except that in the scenario, you *can't* because the Eternal Fleet is off-line, so it's down to you and the small forces you have with you.

And you should remember that the Empire may have backed you in KotET chapter I (Voss), but they still came to *your* turf to try to steal the superweapon, kind of a betrayal of trust.

And Troopers can reclaim a lost/departed Elara from the companion-reclaiming terminal in the War Room instance on Odessen, just off the corridor that leads to Hylo Visz's area.

The reason why my Sith main, despite being Dark Side, considering himself a Darth, asking to rejoin the Empire, being willing to ditch the title of 'Commander', etc - so, despite him being a full Sith, aligned with the Republic in this scenario (1).

He would have helped the Empire secure the superweapon, probably - but stealing from him? He doesn't pay traitors to his cause.

(1) OOCly, the fact that I love Vowrawn over Acina also played a good role in the decision, though he doesn't know that.
