Reasons why Swtor is going to end

This is a well-known topic but most of us don’t talk about it or just decided to ignore it. Some of us are playing since the beginning, and we know well the difference between the start and today. The game is obviously going to end soon, not sure exactly when, maybe next year, sooner or later anyway.

This thread isn’t made to discredit the game or Bioware, see the positive thing; it can be a list of what devs should do if they really want to keep the game alive. So I hope moderators won’t remove it because this is something important we need to talk about.

Bioware says the game is fine, that Kotfe and Kotet are the expansions where there were the most people subscribed. But does it mean the game is alive? Of course not. We all know why it’s going bad, obviously Bioware decided to promote solo content player instead of group content, they said they are going to change it. New producer Keith was the symbol of hope for this game; I lost my last hopes recently.

So, let’s talk about the few reasons why Swtor is going to end…

PvE: I’m not a huge pve player but here is what I know: Between release and start of 3.0 (December 2014), so it means around 3 years, Bioware released 9 operations (I’m not taking in account single bosses). So, if you pay attention, there are 10 operations which means only ONE operation has been released from December 2014 to March 2018 (Iokath operation complete with game 5.8). This single operation has been released in almost one year. Furthermore, no Nightmare mode for all recent operations (The Ravagers, Temple of Sacrifice, Gods from the Machine).

PvP : Probably the most empty part… Let’s have a look at old and actual pvp (I’m going to pass on new warzone map added).

Open World PvP : Bioware tried to deal recently with open world pvp by introducing the new planet Iokath, but the real problem is the PvP/PvE instance system, because obviously PvP instance is empty, which means there is absolutely no open world pvp left in this game…

Ranked PvP: the most interesting part, because it’s probably one of the biggest problems in this game: ranked seasons.

- First of all, 8v8 ranked: it was removed at the start of Season 1, probably because there weren’t enough players and because balance wasn’t adapted to the 8v8 ranked game. Yeah it was hard enough to make 4v4 pop so…

- Ranked seasons: Probably a big issue, here’s the thing: Season 1 to Season 3, one unique mount for gold rewards (except season 2) which means no reskin, the only rancor available was the one from Dread Palace, and the only walker was one of the rarest mount in-game. Ranked armor set for all 3 seasons. Season 4 to Season 6 weapons remaining, unique mounts remaining, unique color crystals remaining, but armor sets are removed. Note that seasons lasted 3 months each, except season 1. Season 7 (There we go!) starts with 4.3 in april 2016, almost 6 months of preseason (I guess Bioware forgot to make it start), ends with 5.0, so this is 6 months – one season, rewards are a blue/yellow acklay + blue yellow color crystal, no weapons. Season 8 start with 5.0 but ends in august 2017 so this is an 8 months season, rewards: another spider mount (makrin). Season 9, since august 2017, it still didn’t end and will end around summer (Eric said) so it’s going to be an 8/10 months season.

Seasons are way too long, people are leaving in half of the season because nowadays, if we don’t talk about hackers, win traders, bot farmers, backfillers etc… top3s are around 3000 rating needed and playing to get rewards one year after doesn’t interest anyone.

- General ranked and gearing system: Bioware decided to remove expertise (I guess same decision than the mastery one), so now there isn’t any difference between a pvp geared player and a pve geared player. Ok, could be a good idea, but the problem is: people don’t need 2018 expertise anymore to q ranked, so Bioware decided to replace it with a valor 25 requirement. Consequences: 25 valor is very easy to get, you need approximately between 10 and 20 warzones played (I’m not sure exactly about the number). So pve players or garbage players (for example people with less than 5000 pvp kills achievements, and there are a lot) can q without any restriction (#HelloTrolls). BUT PvP players experimented, can’t make a new character (with token for example) and make it q instantly, because we need to get 25 valor on it and play regular warzones.

Talking about gearing system, general balance of classes: Hybrid spec were a way to make every player’s gameplay unique, yeah it was unbalanced at the end of Rise of the Hutt Cartel (around 2.7, #hybridsorc) and has been removed for this reason. But balance is still currently missing. For example,

- PvE: Sorc DPS is still underperforming regarding to dps leaderboard.

- PvP: Powertech DPS is still lacking dcds in solo ranked

Cartel Market: We are probably bored of new cartel market updated, because CM doesn’t need any update, it’s fine how it was, if developers were putting half of this effort into group content this thread wouldn’t exist.

Galactic Starfighter: I don’t play GSF at all but maybe this is not perfect, a ranked system would motivate people to play and improve it.

To be honest this game is a good MMO, and the only one Star Wars themed base.

What is your opinion about it?

If SWToR becomes a financial drain on EA it will get shut down. If it does not become a drain it will stay open on the small server groups until they release a new SW game that SWToR may compete with in some way...then it will shut down. Plain and simple. Edited by Soljin
