New Nvidia Drivers Causing stuttering and frame drops.

With the new nvidia drivers released it's unplayable now in windowed fullscreen mode as the framerate stutters and drops down from 100 fps locked to below 30 fps. I posted a video below to compare the two.

gsync monitor 3440 x 1440 res, 100hz + 1080 ti + 4790k + 16 gb ddr3 2400

Recorded in 4k for your pleasure

387.98 - Stutter 30 fps - https://youtu.be/fFQZdI9e_l8

378.78 - Solid 100 fps - https://youtu.be/OTTDaDNLE-k

Possibly - an insider build was released 5 days ago - https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/10/13/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-17017-pc/

We fixed an issue causing reduced performance in some DirectX 9 games running at high framerates. If you’re a fan of gaming, please take a moment to try playing your favorite games on this build and share feedback.

unfortunately I cant try it , after I updated successfully to fall edition, KB4043961 is failing to install ..... resulting in reversion to vanilla fall edition

Just got through testing, thought it was resolved with the build 17017, but it dropped down to 17 fps and stayed there after I died.. lasted a good 5 mins though.. i was like no way it fixed it! then let down :( oh well i can play full screen mode fine it just has a microstutter when moving unlike borderless window is smooth as butter when on old 378.78 drivers pre-FCU. I'm getting very tired of windows and nvidia tbh.

microstutter when moving unlike borderless window is smooth

one thing you can try to remove this particular stutter , in the nvidia control panel go to the profile for swtor and set pre-rendered frames to 1

Edit - see my post (praxos666) specifically at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/957952/geforce-drivers/gsync-full-and-windowed-borderless-low-fps/post/5203420/#5203420

This is almost certainly the bug. It was remedied by 378.78 drivers until FCU. Since I installed FCU today 378.78 no longer works. I'm using 387.98 Drivers now and all my games i've tested so far work properly but swtor. I went through the troubleshoot steps with disabling fast boot and fast start up, that didn't work. I have reported my feedback to the microsoft hub.

This didnt stop the microstutter, I recorded a video to show you the difference between fullscreen windowed and fullscreen as far as the microstutter but its very hard to spot over the video.

the quality will update shortly.

Least have an idea what is happening, turning gsynch off should restore things ?

Turning gsync completely off doesn't resolve the issue. I should mention I have a secondary non-gsync display at 60hz. Dunno if that changes anything.

try adjusting pre-rendered frames to 4 just to test, it is hard to know which way will help sometimes. (default is 3).

The stutter is likely an artifact of vsynch/gsynch dropping a frame

that seems maybe a tad better. Idk i guess i'll have to live with it until a fix in a year or two idk.. I tried every solution I could find.. only thing i could do is rollback to CU and use 378.78 but then I cant play new games like battlefront 2 because the drivers are too "old."

Since I can't fix windowed-mode, I looked into fixing the microstutter for fullscreen and found a solution that works.

Turn off (scale nameplates at a distance) in the social options and now it's smooth. As shown here in the video

The only problem is the big nameplates look horrible but I'll get what i can take. :p I still would like a resolution from swtor, nvidia, or microsoft though on a true fix, I use windowed fullscreen on most of my games so I can go back and forth between screens without alt tabbing all the time.

Is this your post at #3 - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1026749/geforce-drivers/window-10-fall-creators-update-feedback-thread-released-10-17-17-/1/

Scale namepletes being turned off is just a symptom of resource issue in my view

Few suggestions

Try lowering shadows resolution on the slider and see if you can re-enable nameplate scaling again.

try downloading a software called Bandicam and in FPS Tab check the "Set FPS limit" box, then input 58. This is assuming your monitor refresh rate is set to 60Hz. idea is to set it just below the actual monitor refresh rate.

try enabling AA in the nvidia profile for swtor and disbale AA ingame so the driver does it directly.

This should allow nameplates to be enabled again

I was thinking the same thing last night when windows update was bsoding on reboot with a page fault and rolling back

Cause ...... Trend Micro Anti Virus (found after 6hours searching)

Never using antivirus since windows 10, even defender completely disabled, no virus with chrome + uBlock origin extension.

OP: Owen is right about lowering shadows resolution, optimized shadows too, this thing eat really too much, i have the same gpu with exactly the same symptom. @ 1080p no problem.

I did all this, stutter comes back when name plate scaling is enabled.

Another thing to confirm have you right mouse clicked on the game shortcut and selected properties then go to the compatability tab and ticked "disable fullscreen optimisation"

tried that too no avail. The reports are coming in on nvidia, counted 5 reports today having the same issue with windowed fullscreen mode in games.
