A question fot the changes to operation drops and gearing in 5.2

The third change is with the introduction of a new Tier (Tier 4), we needed to ensure Operation players had a way to acquire this gear directly. This is especially true since Tier 4 will help substantially in being able to clear Veteran Mode Tyth along with future Gods from the Machine bosses, and all other Master Mode bosses. Here is a basic breakdown of where the gear will drop:

For existing Operations (Tier 1 will no longer drop in Operations)

Tier 2 Legendary Gear - Story Mode

Tier 3 Legendary Gear – Veteran Mode

Tier 4 Prototype and Artifact Gear – Master Mode (Non-final bosses)

Tier 4 Legendary Gear – Master Mode (Final bosses)

For Gods from the Machine Operations:

Tier 3 – Story Mode

Tier 4 – Veteran Mode

I don't know if anyone has asked this but what I want to ask is what happens to tier 1 gear (230 rating): Since it's not going to be any drop from how do you obtain it? Only from the crates? If there is any thread already posted please tell me. Thank you in advance

Tier 1 gear will still drop from the Command Crates while you're in Command Rank 1-90, that's still the core way of gaining gear through the Galactic Command system. It's just if you're using the alternative / supplemental gearing methods now available through PVP and Ops that you'll 'start' at Tier 2. Edited by DarthDymond

Isn't that backwards? Shouldn't fixed loot tables, set piece tokens and comms / shards / unassembled components be the core content progression gear reward system ... and the lottery crate system be the alternative / supplemental gearing method? Even for Tier 1? Edited by GalacticKegger

It's the main gearing system for T1, but you can bypass it entirely by doing Operations and PvP.
