I've set some companions to healer, but when I go to fight they just rush in and fight as if they're tank. At best they'll occasionally heal themselves, but usually they just use default attack until they die. I have confirmed this on both my account and my partner's account. Certain companions, when set to healer, are still their old class only w/o the abilities. They do, of course, have the healer abilities on the bar.
