Empire, Republic, Zakuul and how SWtoR fits into the Star Wars Universe

I did expect some normal discussion about it and not stuff like "they will make it fit"...

it was not meant to be about wheter that happens or not, but only to talk about it and all those answers are definitly what a discussion about story and lore should be ...

about J.J Abrams: read it in an article on massivelyop.com

By now we all know that Republic and Empire will fall to the Empire of Zakuul.

Well, assuming that, maybe, one day Valkorion is to be defeated and the galaxy freed, we will have nothing that is left of either Republic or Empire and (depending on the story told) the Jedi and Sith.

What makes you say that? The Republic being defeated by Zakuul is probably no different than the Republic being defeated by the Sith Kingdoms during the Republic Dark Ages era that you brought up in your post. In both cases, what little was left of the Republic rises again after the threat is finally defeated and then history (particularly a pro-Republic narrative of history) looks back on the Republic as having weathered that storm.

In the Outlander Trailer Lana even says "

", which is how the Republic Dark Ages also described the condition of the Republic. Edited by DarthDymond

The Republic has never been defeated by the Sith Kingdoms.

They did lose, yes, but never in the way they are going to in KoFE. There is a reason why we will be called Outlander. There is nothing left Empire and Republic.

That is reading way, way too much into that title. "The Republic has effectively ceased to exist" was used to describe the Dark Ages era, but you are acting like it has been definitively proven that what happens against Zakuul ("the Republic is all but fallen") is worse. Let's wait until the expansion actually comes out before we jump to conclusions like that.

And about Lana. You know that the stroy does not start with you being released from Carbonite? She could have said that way much earlier (I don't want to go into any detail about the stroy at this point)

We'll see, but I'd bet money she says that line as she releases you from Carbonite or soon after.

The downfall of Empire and Republic and the rise of Zakuul does not fit in either the EU nor the canon ( and if so with a huge amount of concessions given by EU and canon)

Based on what we know now, which isn't a lot, it fits every bit as well as the Dark Ages era did.

Think of all the coherences of galactic history and all the small hints of what has happened in the past given either by EU or/and canon ... KoFE is a hard piece of work to have it fit in.

That "coherence" has been one instance of them retconning in a new war / enemy after another throughout the thousands of years of Republic history, including the Sith Empire in SWTOR. And I agree they've done a great job, on balance, of making it all fit. I expect this will do the same.

As to canon, sure it all fits in canon as it has nothing much to say about this far back. TCW does mention Bane existing and making the rule of two but little else. The Ruusan Reformation isn't canon currently even. So yeah SWTOR and disney can do whatever they like.

As to the EU, sure it fits cause the EU changed things when they felt like it (Asajj Ventress, anyone?) Further there are plenty of time and tons not defined between SWTOR & Bane's time. Hell there is another sith empire in there as well under Ruin.

All in all it will fit because they will make it fit.

*Shrug* It is what writers do actually in Star Wars.

In your previous posts you were arguing that Zakuul couldn't fit in either the EU's or Disney's timeline. This is just not the case. There is just plenty of time in either canon to fit anything in SWTOR in.

It's not even a particularly hard sell. Think about it: it's probably a safe bet that over the course of the KotFE storyline (either in "Season One" or even over the course of several "Seasons") we'll be defeating Zakuul. Let's say Zakuul had the Republic defeated the entire time we're in Carbonite - 5 years. Even if we put a conservative estimate on how long it will take, story wise, for our characters to defeat Zakuul, say another 5 years, that means 10 years when the Republic wasn't a major player in the galaxy.

Ten years... out of 25,000. I have no trouble at all believing that when someone from the era of the movies is looking back on the history of the Republic, the time when it was subjugated by Zakuul doesn't come up very often.

"For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic" rolls of the tongue a bit easier than "For over eight-hundred-and-fifty-four generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic... then there was that one generation where we got beat by Zakuul, but we came back from that and were guardians of peace and justice again for like, another

hundred-and-forty-five generations."

Plus *spoilers* Zakuul is going to loose before the end of the game. This is a video game and Valkorian is a boss fight waiting to happen. It will be a flash in the pan in Republic history.

So yeah totally easy sell.
