Swtor.exe is detected as a virus on update 3.2.2 - unable to install the update

I know that not being able to access the game usualy qualifies as a Customer Service issue, but this is urgent as most people just can't even log-in to report it.

When trying to launch the launcher to update to the latest version, the launcher stays stuck in a verifying 0% mode. This does not go away and you can still exit the launcher and start all over again, and again.

Currently 8 anti-virus programs are detecting SWTOR.EXE as a virus: Gen:Variant.Sirefef.3054. (Ad-Aware, BitDefender, F-Secure, GData, Emsisoft, and a few others) ; and therefore corrupting the installation (and never completes). Trying to repair the Bitraider folder does not help either.

I doubt this is real virus, although until the Devs confirm this is a FALSE positive, we should still all be careful and proceed at your own risk.

Here is the online scan and VirusTotal report

Feel free to move or delete this post if it is truly in the wrong place. Cheers, and happy patch 3.2.2.

This sometimes happens because the SWTOR.exe is heavily encrypted to make it harder for hacker and bots to understand it. Some anti-virus programs detect this as a virus because viruses also encrypt their contents so that the actual virus code is hidden.

This is in no way a new bug and has happened since release to a number of players. Just add the .exe to the exceptions list on your anti-virus and you are good to go.

Why do people even use anti-virus software anymore? It's not like it actually does any good, and is a dam nuisance.

Because if you actually keep it updated and run multiple complimentary anti-malware programs, and watch what you click on, it actually DOES do some good.

It's only a nuisance when you want to do something NOW, and can't be arsed to take 30 seconds to implement the appropriate solutions.

What complete rubbish. Of course they "do good" - they work.

Plenty of viruses doing the rounds and what with people's addiction to downloading illegal content from illegal sources, you really shouldn't be connected online without some running.
