Oteefo
I've wondered but never asked.... I notice there is a "button-like" icon that has an "=" sign in it on our shield displays, but there is nothing in the keybinds that references it..... Is this something that must be cursor activated...or does it do nothing.....is there a way to redistribute shields in battle??
BardaTheHobo
Strikes can get directional shield which will flip shield strength around, but that is the only way to do it, I don't know the purpose of the arrows and equal sign outside of that, with directional shields the arrows and equal sign will highlight depending on where your shield focus is. Drakkolich
The arrows up and down with the "=" sign in the middle are for the component Directional Shields available on these ships: Sting/Flashire Rycer/Starguard Quell/Pike Imperium/Clarion Dustmaker/Cometbreaker Jurgoran/Condor Decimus/Sledgehammer Once you have the component selected as your shield you can use your #2 ability to cycle threw "Shields full back" "Shields full forward" and "Shields equal between the two" however you must always cycle in that order. Many players don't like the component because you have to cycle in the order instead of just being able to select which way to orient immediately
Verain
Additionally, there is an ICD on the cycling equal to a global cooldown. This means that if your shields are at neutral and you see an enemy in front who could shoot you, your first press would throw all your shields backwards, and your next press (after a server enforced delay) would transfer them front. This locks you into a moment of extreme hull vulnerability. Work arounds include keeping your shields double back or double forward preemptively. Double back advantages: You can generally see enemies in front of you. One press will give you shields to front, and if you are surprised from behind you already have your shields correctly placed. You are ready to joust at any time. Disadvantages: A single slug from a gunship you didn't spot is ruinous to your front arc. Double front advantages: If you are moving forward and especially in a "line" situation, no one is behind you and you are ready to tank from the front if need be. You are ready to joust at any time. Double front disadvantages: If you lack knowledge of enemies behind you you will get worked often before you can respond. The needless global on those shields / the inability to have a "back toggle" is the greatest weakness of directional shields.
