NicoleMay
I just found out that the common illegal drug we find in SWTOR, Spice, is also in the real world. "Spice" refers to a wide variety of herbal mixtures that produce experiences similar to marijuana (cannabis) and that are marketed as "safe," legal alternatives to that drug. Sold under many names, including K2, fake weed, Yucatan Fire, Skunk, Moon Rocks, and others — and labeled "not for human consumption" — these products contain dried, shredded plant material and chemical additives that are responsible for their psychoactive (mind-altering) effects. (Drugabuse.gov) While the actual contents of Spice in SWTOR is unknown, we do know it makes people stupider (from the Heroic on Ord Mantell) and is very illegal. Bravo at bringing a real world drug to the world of SWTOR.
errant_knight
Well, Star Wars spice existed long before the real world one, which is relatively new. I suppose it may have been named after the star wars drug.
StarSquirrel
Not to mention the Star Wars spice is actually a catchall term for a few different types of drug including but not limited to: Ryll spice: a mineral that is mined on many planets and is the most common type. And there is also Glitterstim, a photoactive drug made from the webs of spice spiders found on Kessel. This was presumably the type of spice Han Solo was transporting due to its extreme rarity and value as well as it being a major drug in the time of Solo. It also provided a telepathic boost to the user, allowing them to read people's minds. It was insanely addictive though, and easily overdosed on. Also, it is assumed that "spice" in star wars was named after the spice in the book (and later movie) Dune.
