Lurtzello
This issue has already been discussed in other threads, but since one of them is possibly in the wrong section while the other one has an incorrect title, and since it seems to occour more often since 2.7 came out, I'm starting this thread. Detailed information about the glitch can be found in the pages linked above. In short: it appears that (with some AMD video cards?) certain visual effects such as (1) the lightning of some Inquisitor's abilities (in particular the streams of lightning that go all the way from the player to the target), (2) the pillars of light above dead enemies that indicate loot on them, (3) the laser effects of Galactic Starfighter blaster bolts and (4) the repair drones' green healing laser are often either invisible or less bright. Thank you in advance for the eventual acknowledgement of this issue. Edited April 8, 2014 by Lurtzello

TaitWatson
Hey Lurtzello, Would you (or anyone having the issue) be able to link a video or screenshots of what you're seeing? It would also help to have a DxDiag or MSInfo for the machine you're running SWTOR on as well. Thanks!
Glzmo
Hey Lurtzello, Would you (or anyone having the issue) be able to link a video or screenshots of what you're seeing? It would also help to have a DxDiag or MSInfo for the machine you're running SWTOR on as well. Thanks! This has been an issue with AMD/ATi cards since beta. The lightning isn't nearly as detailed than it is on Nvidia cards and doesn't look all that much like Force Lightning at all. Unfortunately, I don't have access to AMD/ATi cards at the moment, so I can't help. But the issue has been well-known and often reported in detail since beta. I'm sure you can find screenshots of it with in the in-game bug reports of the past.

Thank you for your continuos input (even in the other thread). Here's hoping the issue gets finally looked into a little bit more and a solution is found.
Lurtzello
. I haven't recorded the issue within starfighter since it was taking a bit long for the match to start but if you deem it useful I will show that too. A note for the video: when I move around with the speeders it's because sometimes the lightning power links and the cables connecting the seat to the engines would appear/disappear randomly when moving but apparently this time they didn't want to reappear at all. To point out the common link of these visual effects, I would say they are streams of light/material which don't collide with other objects and which don't cast shadows. I hope this helps. Lurtzello
Update: it seems that the glitch occours with a frequency that can depend on the local zone the character is in, at least as far as the issue regarding the speeders' energy beams goes, . As you can see, the lightning of the mount is all right until I go beyond the passage and it continues for a little while, even after I go back through the passage into the previous area, before becoming normal again. About the Force Lightning ability, though, it seems that it got bugged both inside and outside the area that made the mount glitch. I don't know whether because the cause of the issue is different or because it simply has an higher chance of not displaying correctly independently from the area the character is in. Lastly, I admit I've only checked it out with Kurtob Alliance speeder (since I only have that speeder on Imperial characters and that area, in which it is very clear when the glitch happens/doesn't happen, can only be accessed by Imperials) so this whole argument might be done only for that vehicle. I hope this helps. Edited April 14, 2014 by Lurtzello

Alec_Fortescue
dat stinky amd. can't wait til watch dogs and dat gsync asus monitor so i can switch to dat 780. Got plenty of issues her myself with radeon r9 290. Three fans on the gpu and it perform so bad with TOR! :[ Btw I know you have a problem with lightning - how about other 2d effects like the holograms om walls or the harness on the rancor - do they disappear for you, too? Especially the holoscreens with ppl cheering in hutball are super annoying. They flicker really hard when you move the camera! My dxdiag is identical to yours in the display section. You know what? Do as I did. Arrange for someone to buy it off you and get a geforce. Nvidia for life! Or report this card as unfit or purpose. I told the shop that I can't play SWTOR with it and it's pretty much the only game i play. This makes the card unfit for purpose in my eyes. They would've given me a refund but I found a different way out xd [smartphone keyboard] I'll post pictures tomorrow of something you can test out / check on your character in the imperial fleet and say if u have a similar problem. BTW you wouldn't get weird fuzzy icons for like .5 of a second when opening legacy/crafting/collections/cartel market windows? Lurtzello
how about other 2d effects like the holograms om walls or the harness on the rancor - do they disappear for you, too? i don't think I've had that... yet. Though I have seen some halos of increasing color brightness towards my character on certain walls/floors but I don't know if it's because of the video card or it's just the shadows which I had turned off most of the time previously (I used to play with a GTS240, everything maxed except for Shadows and AA which were off, and I had about 40-50 fps on average (in Warzones/16 man Operations about 20-40 fps), sometimes lower than that. Now I also have Shadows and AA enabled and get about 20 more fps than before, though some low-fps spikes are still there) BTW you wouldn't get weird fuzzy icons for like .5 of a second when opening legacy/crafting/collections/cartel market windows? I do! It has also happened with the icon that displays to the side of a castbar once or twice but it's something I'm starting to get used to (I'm imposing my subconscious to think that they were in-universe loading screens put there by the devs to increase the realism of the game ) Edited April 16, 2014 by Lurtzello

Lol, I have the same problem with lightning disappearing Have you noticed any issue with the light pillars that indicate loot, the lasers in Galactic Starfighter, the electrical power links of some speeders or the /doublelasers emote? Since if you aren't having problems with any or some of these other visual effects it could mean that there is more than just one bug affecting everything (seems to be something useful to know! ) I totally did! The loot "pillars" flicker from lighter to darker depending on camera position. The very same speeder from refer a friend suffers from same issue as yours. I will post you something and u can tell me if u experience the same: http://i.imgur.com/VmlpATs.jpg http://postimg.org/gallery/cadqk3da/b9c9c9fb/ In huttball: the screens flicker depending on my camera position. The screens with cheering people. You actually see, on the left, there are only parts of the screen. When fighting Draxus yesterday me and my amd guild mate confirmed that there are huge squares on the floor, after the big-hitting adds show up, jumping from above. Black, textureless squares. :/ There is also a nasty shadow flicker (associated with same stuff imo) on the coruscant's spaceport. /doublelasers stopped releasing lasers in some places even on my old computer. ;] they screwed that one up themselves months ago. Pls tell me if you experience same stuff as me on those pics. Now, you need to enable BLOOM. IT won't happen with bloom off but lack of bloom just kills the ligthing effects for me. Yes, fuzzy icons also show up on the castbars and buff space. Solution: sell your card and get a geforce. Lurtzello
So, I do get the shadow flicker but at a very, very reduced frequency and intensity and only when I'm much closer to the Senate building than you were. I also get the flicker of the spectators' screens in Huttball but that also happened only at a great distance (when I was close to the Rotworm scoreline I had to stop and actually look for the flicker on the opposite wall to actually notice it). Lurtzello
I'm not sure if it's related, but I've noticed a flickering of the yellow and purple lines inside the bunkers of the Novare Coast Warzone (the lines of light that indicate which team has control over the turret), especially when viewed from a distance. Also, in the Sith Inquisitor cinematic that happens at around level ten, right before unlocking the door that leads to Khem Val (where he is encountered for the first time, inside the tomb of Naga Sadow) the player summons lightning from four rods: with the player in the middle and the rods at the corners of the screen, the lightning started from the rods and arrived halfway to the character before becoming invisible (all of the four lightning streams stopped after the same amount of distance) and this identical effect happened each and every time that camera angle was displayed (three times, if I recall correctly - I also apologise for not taking a screenshot but I was focused on leveling and almost got used to seeing these glitches). I just thought of sharing this event, since it seemed less random than most. Sadly I didn't go through the cinematic mutliple times to further test it but double xp called Edited July 3, 2014 by Lurtzello
Lurtzello
Update/Solved(!!!): the glitch appears to have been fixed! I have checked starfighter laser bolts/beams, "light pylons" on enemy corpses that indicate loot, vehicle lightning links and lightning ability effects! Everything was probably fixed a month or so ago, though I'm not sure with which update, specifically (I haven't played my Sorcerer much and once I got used to the glitch it became hard to even notice it in general). I'm also fairly confident that there haven't been driver updates for my video card so the issue and subsequent fix probably came from the Bioware side. Lastly, I don't know whether this thread has been helpful in solving the issue but wish to thank Tait and everyone else who has paid attention to it Time to use lightning strikes and admire their beauty!
