A CHOICE of REAL Jedi robes

Hi folks, I'm from the french server "Battle Meditation" and I have a question: where are the REAL Jedi robes we expect for ages ?

I know, some topics have already been created about it, but I would like to insist because this is such absurd to me. I stopped this game two years ago, I'm back from one month and just surprised this problem hasn't been solved yet (even the "hood up/down toogle" one).

I'm mostly a films fan (The Star Wars Extended Universe is quite obscure to me, sorry), and I'm still wondering why SWTOR is full of ugly (and desperatly hooded) outfits which make the Jedis dressed as some kind of "Space Ivanhoe".

Most of the stuff I have seen for the Jedi in this game don't remind me the movies. Fortunately I found the Relnex's set, it saves my jedi from an aesthetic disaster, but I'm still frustrated.

I mean, we have planets, warzones, flashpoints, spaceship and stuff, but not propers Jedi robes and it makes me wondering if it's a technical/copyright problem to add them in the game. Come on guys this is Star Wars, you allowed some new ugly lightsabers colors, so PLEASE, let us the opportunity to have plenty of this:

thank you very much (but I still think you guys have made an amazing game) :)

PS: I've already posted this message in a previous topic, wanted to delete it but it didn't work, hope you won't consider me as a flooder, sorry about it.

Taking a shot in the dark, I would guess the engine can't do the baggy look. Everything in this game (especially anything for the leg slot) is skin tight. My guess is it would clip behind the knees like an old school 64 game if the armor was at all baggy like the robes that everyone has been asking for since the game launched.

Where have you been? Engine can handle it, look at Marka's robe. It's all there already, problem is - it's all on separate armor sets/pieces. All the hanging clothes, tabards, long sleeves, baggy pants... It's there, only has to be put together :)

I've been here the whole time listening to you complain about every outfit in the game.

First of all there is no pants on that robe. It's a robe, it has a dress on the bottom. It's a cone with some textures on it. It's also one big piece that doesn't have to articulate each leg. I'm pretty sure with all the clipping issues that this game has if you put pants on a character that weren't skin tight the back of the knees would clip like they did in old N64 games.

The reason all the coats, capes or tabards in this game look ridiculous is because the gear isn't solid. Think about it. Any piece of "cloth" gear that has something hanging down on it flares out. this is because the engine probably doesn't support the gear interacting. So if you had a long coat that hung straight down like it would do anywhere there is gravity it would clip through anything that it touched below it. I believe the devs skirted (puns are funny) around this by making every piece of long gear like a long coat shaped like a cone so a dress/robe could fit underneath it with out them touching.

Most of the gear in this game looks like it is just painted on you. So I'm almost positive that if you had pants that weren't tights they would clip in the crotch where the two legs met at the seam and behind the knees when you walked instead of folding like cloth would. I have no idea how badly it would clip or how bad it would look but the devs seem to not want to do it.

Which robe? What are you on about?

Any of them. Take this one, the one you mentioned, ignore all the coloring and lighting and added textures and just focus on the shape of it. The lower robe is a cone and the upper robe fits around it. It's not resting on it because if you took off the lower robe the upper robe would still sit in the same place. It wouldn't hang any differently. They are all like that. If an upper robe has something that hangs down in the front it does the same thing, it sticks out as if it's resting on a lower robe even when it's not. this is to prevent long upper robes like the one in the picture from clipping through wide lower robes since they aren't solid and won't rest on each other.

I believe the reason for this is because the gear is just a texture added to the player model. If they created anything "baggy", meaning not skin tight and not a robe/cone, Whenever the two legs/sleeves got close to another part of the piece of gear they would clip through each other. Places like the crotch where the two legs meet, behind the knees where it would have to bend, the arm pits and elbows are all places the clipping would happen.

So if you want classic Jedi robes they are either going to clip everywhere or be tights.

Just my speculation from how I see things behaving in game.

I never mentioned the lower robe of Ragnos' gear. I mixed and matched various different pieces of gear available in the game.

Ugh... Okay. Okay... Here:

Long Sleeves + outer robe: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/swtor-marka-ragnoss-armor-set-trackers-bounty-pack.jpg

Inner vest w/ hanging cloth: http://i.imgur.com/uqXEqD3.jpg (get rid of the longer cloth hanging from the chain, leave the thing that's underneath), http://tor.zamimg.com/uploads/images/8626.jpg

Baggy pants: http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/swtor-darth-sion-armor-freelancer-contractors-bounty-pack-male.jpg While skin-tight, the illusion of them being baggy is actually excellent!

They just should put this all together.

They should also make http://i.imgur.com/uqXEqD3.jpg without the metal pieces and with Ragnos'-like sleeves as a separate chest piece, maybe with an added tabard because

Real thing will be black Anakin outfit from Ep 2 - pants and jacket.

It's annoying me that Star Trek Online didn't have a problem with releasing uniforms from various eras/generations in their cash shop.

Clipping might be a problem for TOR, but: Just making a hood-less version of many of the existing hooded Robes would improve the game already.

The hooded robes might also point a way to how to fix some clipping issues - those hoods come off when you wear (and show) head gear that would be in the way (funny how they prioritize head gear over my character's hair!). If they make some long robes, they could use the same technique to turn pants invisible (or replace them with something that will definitely work on the robe.)

Though I am not claiming the latter would be a trivial task. Maybe it would be easier to live with some clipping issues and respond to people complaining about that, then people being unhappy that they can't wear iconic Jedi clothing.

It's funny that STO had very customizable uniforms ... But Cryptic knows customization is important. (I am still not sure if NWO is a counter-example or them just finally capitalizing on this fact for their financial gains...)
