Elite Analysis: Rebel Alliance SpecForce

Alright seeing as I haven't done these in awhile, figured I would do one. Plus I have a ton of information for them so yay! Anyway...let's have a look see at quite possibly the greatest asset the Rebel Alliance had!

=======================

"In half an hour I can put together a strike team of twenty soldiers, capable of succeeding at any mission, under any circumstances, anywhere in the galaxy. - General Crix Madine.

History

The original plan was vague and starry-eyed, fortunately for the Rebel Alliance they were able to recruit a cadere of experienced retired officers such as General Dodonna, Admiral Adar Talon, Marshal Starkiller and Commander Willard. The newly formed special forces was divided into two regiments, combat and recon and over several missions they evolved into modern regiments and turned into two medium sized regiments into several smaller units. Their numbers were reinvigorated by an infusion of SpecForce experts, this led to confusion with SpecForce spread out over several commands which it then started to falter.

Shortly after the Battle of Yavin however, General Crix Madine defected and was put in charge of the SpecForces, he moved in and swept up the entire thing, clearing away the confusion and getting the best for duty. Conventional compagins restarted, with SpecForce making critial support with Sector Forces being able to make strong footholds against the Empire.

When Imperial propoganda mentioned "Rebel Terrorists" they were speaking of Rebel SpecForces, the branch of the Alliance that the Empire feared most.

Training

"Your candidacy for SpecForce training is itself a mark of a superior soldier"- Standard acceptance holo to SpecForce candidiates.

Although canidiates for SpecForces have already went through basic and specialist training, the main purpose was to weed out those who lacked the drive to succeed. Standards are set very high, the washout rate being equally high, though the Empire has a slightly higher dropout rate. Though simply being accepted marks the talents of a superior soldier, even those that washout do tend to have very good careers, the identities of a trainee is kept top secret.

Trainees perform several simulations and as they progress go through much more difficult exercises, once completed however they advanced further into a four week specialization program.

Specializations

"One expects they have specialist sanitation engineers as well"- Imperial Ubiqtorate officer commenting on Alliance SpecForce structure.

SpaceOps Troopers= Typically ship based combat personal, they spend much of their time developing combat skills and tactics needed to fight effectively onboard starships. Secondary emphsis is placed on technical skill, stealth is kept to a minimum, when not in combat they often provide security aboard ships or at Alliance starship bases.

Pathfinders= Main concentration is stealth and scouting of unexplored or unknown terrain, they recieve basic SpecForce training in H2H, though technical instruction is less stringent.

Urban Combat Specialists(UCSs)= Deployed in cities or metroplexes, they balance between stealth and combat with secondary instruction in technical and operational skills.

Wilderness Fighters= The rural counterparts to the UCSs, with emphasis on survival and additional emphasis on a particular terrain type: Artic, aqua, desert, jungle, forest, plains or mountains.

Technicans(Techs)= Techs concentrate of select skills useful to SpecForce operations-demolitions, repair of SpecForce equipment, communications, sensor operations, emergancy medicene or 'creative engineering'. Techs are marginally deficent in combat skills, however they are fully trained SpecForce troopers, they are usually assinged to augment other SpecForce units.

Infiltrators= Perhaps the most feared of all the Alliance battalions, Infiltrators rely heavily on stealth and H2H combat. Select sabotage and demolitions are also emphasized. They are typically deployed behind enemy lines with minimal equipment. They are chosen from those who have an exceptionally strong hatred for the Empire.

Heavy Weapon Specialists(HWSs)= The hammer of the SpecForces, concentrating on combat skills particularly firing light and heavy repeating blasters. Indoctrination focuses on operation and maintenance on mounted, ship and vehicle blasters, artillery and other such weaponry. High casutily rates keep this regiment's number lower than the others but veteran HWSs are seen as fearsome warriors.

In most cases specializations reflect the terrain in which the trooper was raised. Example, Wilderness Fighters are usually natives of rural areas, UCS are usually from metroplexes, SpaceOps are usually from heavily urbanized areas or spacer stock. Exceptions are for Infiltrators chosen for having a strong hatred for the Empire and Pathfinders who come from all over.

Other specialists are usually tasked to areas they are familar with, it being far more efficant to train someone to SpecForce standards in something they already have a good handle on rather than the other way around. Medics, pilots, comm techs, drivers, supply specs, translators, interrogators and a host of other nessecary specialists are avaliable for missions.

Strategy

"You can win without fighting, but it's harder to do; the enemy is rarely so cooporative"- Ground Marshal Haras Jundrop to subordinate.

In short the SpecForces utilizes the same hit-and-fade strategy as all the other branches though application varies depending on the operational peramiters and unit specialization. SpaceOps units usually have little need for stealth, preferring to overwhelm enemy units, moving fast and withdrawling if enemy resistance is stiff. Pathfinders on the other hand rely on mobility and stealth to scout territory and prepare a landing zone for Rebel Troops. Infiltrators rely on stealth and rapid mobility to perform surgical strikes against enemy security and personal.

Note that "Overwhelming" is a relative term. If a small team can execute and attack with sufficant preperation, surprise and firepower it may be able to overwhelm a force three to four times its size. "Overhwhelming" is as much a mental advantage as it is a physical one.

SpecForces has acquired a veneer of superiority in the minds of many Imperial regular units; consequently Imperial Army troops fear Alliance SpecForce to a degree that raids are increasingly successful.

Thoughts: Well....there you have it folks! This also is just a TASTE of the information....there is plenty, plenty more to put and their equipment is vast. But enjoy, hope to see some thoughts.
