The damage stats basically give your damage for you standard attack slot 1 attack as each ability will have is own damage range that you can see from it's scroll over tool bar. I am not sure how they work out the actual figure of damage on a particular mob within that base range as to weather that range takes into account the possible defense and absorb stats. any particular Mob may have.

The weapon will have a base range which if custom can be improved by upgrading to a better hit or barrell. The bonus damage adds to that and the value will be depending on how much of your main attack stat you have, how much of the power stat you have, how much of either tech (Gun users) or force power(saber users) stat you have and finally any buff effect including having accuracy over 100%. They do not all increase bonus equally though for each point added and power being the hardest to come by gives the most increase per point on your bonus damage score.

Surge damage is a percentage amount of damage on top of either your base attack or ability attack/heal that you add on top again if do get a crit hit/heal the chance is based on your critical rating. I guess it's quite complicated to work out the actual average damage you might do as you don't really know the defence, absorb and possibly shield chance a mob may have and also its buff effects. ;)

Ok so Damage (Pri) is only the damage dealt by your "auto-attack"? e.g Assault for Juggs or Rapid Shots for Mercs and has no relation to your other abilities correct?

Lets use Juggernauts as an example here.

Remove your chestpiece...under the melee drop down, you will see Damage (Pri). When you take off that chest piece you will see that Damage (Pri) will go down. Now look at your quickbar, hover over your attacks and look at the tooltip it will have the adjusted min-max damage there. You will see that Assault, Vicious Slash, Ravage and all your abilities will go down in damage too.

EDIT: also, your attacks fall under different categories. Hit the P key, look at your main class and advanced class abilities list. Now look at the far right of each ability. You will see active, passive, melee, force, tech and so on. Assault (auttoattack), Force Charge, Ravage and Vicious Slash will say melee at the end. Force Scream and Smash will say Force at the end. Open up your character window again, on the left drop down pull up melee, on the right drop down pull up force. Each one will show slightly different information. But the melee attacks damage, accuracy, and crit will be determined by the stats under the melee window. Anything that falls under the category 'force' will be determined by the force drop down.

Why is all that important? Lets take a look at Operatives now. They have an attack called Shiv...they pull out a vibro knife and stab somebody. Does that mean this attack is a melee? in a way it is, but the game classifies it as a tech attack. Hit P on your operative (or even just a regular agent/sniper) and look up Shiv and you will see that at the end of Shiv it will say Tech. So that means if you hit C and from your character window drop down pull up Tech this is the information that will determine damage, accuracy, crit and so on for Shiv and all other tech based attacks.
