PVP gear vs PVE gear

Not really sure if it is a bug, but I hope it is not intended.

Currently you can switch out a full conqueror weapon for a piece of campaign level gear that has all low endurance pieces in it with a power crystal and gain 7.88 bonus damage at the cost of 33 endurance while losing 0 pvp damage boost or damage reduction despite losing 1 expertise. You can also do this for the second weapon and still lose no pvp damage boost or damage reduction despite losing another expertise. Turns out you can go all the way down to 2014 expertise without losing any pvp damage boost or reduction at all. This makes pieces of pve gear perform better in pvp than the best pvp gear. Even some set pieces will perform better than pvp pieces due to set bonuses. Examples are the operative heal and dps 2 set pieces, the sorc heal 2 set piece, and the assassin tank set pieces. Please look into your expertise calculations for both 61 and 63 level pve gear.

Suggestions to fix:

Alter expertise curve to cause you to actually lose pvp damage boost and reduction at expertise levels near the maximum attainable level.

Increase the level on power crystals so that their expertise is negatively effected by bolster. You would not have to increase the level requirement, just the level of the crystal.

Or simply remove the expertise crystals completely and turn them into power crystals and rework your curve so that the max is hit at 1977. This would make the ranked pvp crystal essentially worthless, but it has been almost a year now for preseason. Don't think anyone takes those serious anymore.

The crystal changes would only effect weapons and would not change the set bonus problem you currently have. A better way to fix the set bonuses would simply be to make set bonuses for some class not next to completely worthless. I mean really, 10 percent to shield probe is hardly a set bonus.

Here's the test.

Aim can be replaced with any main stat. I used the accepted values of main stat = 0.2 bonus damage and power = 0.23 bonus damage. All armorings/barrels would be high main stat and low endurance. All mods and enhancements are the ones with the highest power. Therefore, this setup is a comparison between a min/maxed power heavy 61 item and a min/maxed power heavy conqueror piece of the same slot. No modifiers (inquisitor/consular buff) or skill tree modifiers of main stat (3, 6, 9%) were included in the calculations. The 61 item is using a +41 power crystal.

Gear:

61 Barrel or Armoring

68 aim

49 endurance

61 Mod

53 aim

32 endurance

41 power

27 endurance

57 surge

41 power

TOTAL:

57 surge

121 aim * .2 = 24.2

108 endurance

123 power * .23 = 28.29

Bonus damage = 52.49

-------------------------------------------

Conqueror Armoring or Barrel

68 aim

64 end

Conqueror Mod

55 aim

41 end

46 power

Conqueror Enhancement

36 end

64 surge

41 power

-------------------------------

TOTAL:

64 surge

123 aim * 0.2 = 24.6

141 endurance

87 power * 0.23 = 20.01

Bonus damage = 44.61

Comparison:

61:

52.49 bonus damage

108 endurance

57 surge

Conqueror:

44.61 bonus damage

141 endurance

64 surge

---------------------------------------

52.49 - 44.61 = 7.88 bonus damage

108 - 141 endurance = -33 endurance

57 - 64 surge = -7 surge

So the tradeoff is 7.88 bonus damage gained, 33 endurance lost, and 7 surge lost by using the 61 item over the Conqueror.

Just to show what the expertise drop is here's two screenshots showing the bolstered 61 weapon only losing 1 expertise (no damage reduction or damage done lost according to the tooltip)

So here's screenshots of each of the items when equipped in a bolster environment (warzone).

With Bolster effecting the 61s the actual calculations are:

61 vs.

Partisan

The difference is:

11.1 bonus damage

-26 endurance

0.1 critical rating

-3 surge

Conq vs. Part:

5 power

7 Main stat

8 endurance

4 surge

Total:

5 * 0.23 = 1.15

7 * 0.2 = 1.4

1.4 + 1.15 = 2.55 bonus damage difference

So the updated 61 (bolstered) weapon vs. conqueror would be:

11.1 - 2.55 = 8.55 bonus damage

-26 - 8 = - 34 endurance

-3 - 4 = -7 surge

With the bolster on the 61 the bonus damage is indeed larger than first originally thought.
