Philbert
They get two taunts, one at like lvl 17 and the other later on. The first taunt is a single target taunt, 15 second cool down. The second is an AoE taunt, 45 second cool down. In addition, they get Grapple, a pull ability. They also get Guard to put on someone to lower threat, but it can only be used when Ion Cell is active. DeltaEkotte
Holding agro at lower lvs as vanguard can be a real pain, the best advice aside from using taunts when you get them and guard on the highest damage dealing player (sents/maras for the most part) would be to put out as much damage as possible since damage=threat which equals agro. unluckyperson
I would also suggest to try to use pulse cannon/mortar volley to keep threat on things you're not targetting with your attacks directly, also at first it's pretty crappy early on but later on explosive surge will help you hold threat as well. Sometimes the occasional hammer shot can help. Guarding the player that pulls off you the most always helps a lot too. If you're already doing that, then I would see about upgrading your main hand and/or off-hand if you're undergeared compared to your group sometimes that can cause you to not be able to hold threat against them. The single target taunt is called Neural Jolt, according to torhead you should have it already. The area taunt is called Sonic Round. Deluxe_
At early game it's a real pain to hold aggro given that you don't have as many tools. If even with the ones you have at hand (guard, taunt, aoes, etc.) you find yourself struggling, tell your groupmates to give you an early start to build aggro (2-3 seconds) before joining the fight themselves. This trick it's a little unorthodox but can be very helpful, at every level in fact.
PlayLoud
And of course, if you haven't already done so... remember to use Ion Cell.
