Disney will not kill Star Wars. Look at Lucasarts recent track record (during the past decade). How many "hits" have they developed? They have done some good work, but anything great? No.

It makes perfect sense to shut down Lucasarts and let other developers and companies try their hand at Star Wars games. Bioware/EA with this game has seemed to done a good, but not great, job with SWTOR. Hell, even Sony did okay with Star Wars Galaxies during the first two years of the game. We all know what happened next, though...

Disney did what made sense to them based on Lucasarts recent past. Lucasarts did really well in the 90's with X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, and even the very first Rogue Squadron game, IMO. I hope those games get remakes at some point in the near future. There are too many Star Wars fans and opportunities out there for Disney to just throw it away. Especially after spending (was it four billion?) a lot of money on it.

Past decade includes Kotor and Battle front 2.

They were MASSIVE successes, maybe look a little more recent ;)

KoTOR was developed by BioWare and BF2 was developed by Pandemic. LA only published them.

So, you shut up, and site where over you wish, may be enjoy the ride then.

The company´s products finantially belongs to the customers, (may be legally to the company), because customers like us as the same as shareholders, decide to put our money on them or not, and without our money, companies die. That is so obvius that I didn´t believe neccessary to explain it, but had to, because it seems you took it literally.

So DYSNEY has a long story of fantastic franchise management, yes FOR KIDS.

STAR WARS was not though for kids despite it can be watched for kids too, but this is a different thing.

Time will say, who ´s right.

I think George Lucas and the millions he made on merchandise and action figures disagree.

Star Wars has ALWAYS been marketed to kids and young adults. The whole original trilogy was about a young boy becoming the hero of the universe, and all the rabid fans of the first age fit that demographic back then. When the prequel trilogy happened, it also got marketed to kids as well as the old fans. And with the Clone Wars series, Star Wars is dragging in a new generation of kids as well. As they will with the new movies too.

Star Wars has always been for kids, and can be watched by adults too. Not the other way around. Merchandise made Lucas 10 times more rich than anything else he made off Star Wars. So as long as we spend cash on merchandise, we are still supporting the brand. Disney has been in that same business for years as well. Heck, Disneyland itself is one huge merchandise ride! So Disney and Lucas fit each other perfectly in how to make money.

All Disney did, was make sure Lucasfilm and Lucasart went back to their core: making movies and ensuring a steady stream of merchandise while pulling in new generations of kids over the decades.

Said this in the other thread, going to reiterate this here: Disney doesn't NEED two in-house game development studios. They already have Buena Vista Games, so switching LA to a licensing entity is actually a smart move on their part.

Doesn't make sense to employ and pay for TWO fully functional development studios for a segment in which Disney is not heavily invested (the video game business).

Buena Vista Games changed their name to Disney Interactive Studios almost 6 years ago.

And let's take a look at some of the amazing games this studio has given us the last couple of years:

Cars and Cars 2.

Brave: The Video Game.

Chicken Little.

Chicken Little: Ace in Action.

Dance Dance Revolution Disney Grooves.

Hannah Montana.

Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour.

Alright, I'll stop there. And before you start whining, I KNOW that they have made awesome games as well.

But the fact remains, that the last couple of years, Disney Interactive Studios have produced lots of really, really bad movie lincensed games, and very very few good games.

Of course, this doesn't automatically mean that any potential SW-games by the studio will be crappy.
