soul-stealer
Why not have day and night on the planets, just make a night sky and dim the gamma. Just make the change transparent to time and voila. like 4 hours of day 1 of morning/eveing and 4 of night. Just a thought thou, dont really know how much tech is in it.. infernus
already been thought of, the idea was as terrible then as it is now
LordRaevin
But night and day requires a light source, some planets (if not most) don't have it so it's night all the time... correct me if I'm wrong here.
soul-stealer
But to simply dim it, not complete darkness of course.. moon ect lights the night sky. cities get glowing from afar. Just thought it would be cool. Maybe make a social buttom to enable folks to turn it off? Edited December 20, 2011 by soul-stealer
DarthTHC
The real answer is that BioWare is telling a story with the game. Part of that story is the ambiance of the environment and part of that ambiance is the lighting. BioWare designed very specific lighting for different points in the game. A day/night cycle would undermine that. Don't expect this to change.

The reality is that 90% of the story is told with a close up view of an NPC's face with very little consideration given to lighting, especially shadows. And a bunch of those are told indoors anyway. Let's be honest, day/night as well as a load of other common features were sacrificed to try and get the game out in time because they put all their work into the VO and dialog system. I played through the complete game a couple times in beta and not once did I feel anything even remotely as compelling as the scene with Luke at sunset on Tatooine. The lack of day/night was laziness, nothing more. Storytelling was the PR spin.
