Scathe
Basically it went like this. "We believe we should control our emotions." "We believe our emotions give us strength and should be embraced." "Well we don't like you." "Well then we don't like you either!" "We're going to fight now!" "Well fine then!" Scathe
There is a long, detailed history to it really, it involves philisophical debate, back stabbing, political undermining, love, all that good stuff. But really, what it comes down to is "We don't like you because you don't believe what we believe in."

Maaruin
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/First_Great_Schism There you go. Everything you need to know about how it started. The First Great Schism was the beginning of the Jedi and Sith rivalry, it all started with Dark Jedi. Actually, the First Great Schism didn't start the Sith, only the Legions of Lettow, which were destroyed. The Sith started with the Second Great Schism, also called the 100-Year Darkness: Some Jedi started to use the Dark Side of the Force to twist life and create monsters, zombies and stuff. The Jedi tried to forbid it, but the Dark Jedi wanted to continue. Finally, one side attacked (I'm not sure which one). The Jedi won the following war, but instead of exterminating or imprisoning the Dark Jedi, they exiled them. The Dark Jedi landed on Korriban and became rulers (Lords) of the Sith. They swore revenge to the Jedi. So the true beginning of the Sith and Jedi Rivalry: Mad Jedi Scientists started doing Mad Force Science. That event is also known as the Second Great Schism. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hundred-Year_Darkness Wiki article for convenience. That was what founded the Sith Order, the rivalry truly began with the First Great Schism when the Dark Jedi first formed. The Legions of Lettow attacked the Jedi and their teachings for being too rigid and they fought in a war that led to the Legions being destroyed I believe. IIRC the Dark Jedi from the Second Great Schism saw themselves in the tradition of the First Great Schism. But they pushed the bounderies much further, into excessive use of the Dark Side. The Legions of Lettow seem quite tame against them. But there was another Schism right after the foundation of the Jedi Order which lead to the Force Wars on Tython. It was about defining the Orders purpose: Most Jedi Masters wanted to work for Peace, Justice and gaining Knowledge. But Master Rajivari called that mediocrity. (Consular Prologue in SWTOR) He probably wanted the Jedi Order to be an influential, independent political power or even a Jedi Empire. While the knowledge about that was lost when the Sith started, the Dark Side often leads to similar results. (There have been other dark Jedi splinter groups throughout history, for example the human supremacist "Order of the Terrible Glare".) At the begin they use normal swords at the time of the Forcewars. Later they use lightabers with a battery on their back and cables. Then they make lightsaber like we have atm in TOR. I like how you brought a story about thousands of years of war down to its fundamental roots, good job. But seriously as an earlier post put it it all started when a group of dark jedi decided to wage war on their fellows because of a difference in philosophy, then the LS jedi won and kicked their DS bretheren into what was the unkown regions at the time. Where they landed on Korriban, which they conquerd and then enslaved the sith species to their services.
