Did they ever consider halving the current subscription rate also?

As you keep harping about in every post you make, that is just an assumption and you cannot prove it. In another thread you have said that story is the be all and end all of this game, and that is being given away for free.

And wow might be loosing millions of subscriptions, they are still at 10 times the number we have. hell they have multi million subscriptions to loose.

As for players with so much time and energy put into chars, well there must have been somthing keeping them to spend those hours and energy into their char right.

Blizzard uses various definition for the term "subscriber", they are far from all people who pay $/€ monthly. A lot of them are from the Asian segment, where people buy time to play. So you buy a 4000 minute card, which you can spend in a month, or a year of you wish, or never. Never spend it? Don't worry, blizzard will gladly keep counting you as actively subscribed.

The actual western number, we do not know. However, considering as to how Cataclysm still sold 3.3 million on day 1 vs MoP sold 2.7 million over the course of the first week internationally, there's definitely an ongoing loss at hand for them.

that's a fair point you know, blizzard seem to have hired some top PR spinners, and companies do know how to present things on the "bright"side when it suits them.

Wow while not as successful as most people might think if you are fully aware of the whole picture, is still the most heavily subscribed game. but i am not convinced it is the best.

still the largest criticism about SwTOR is despite it's really impressive story telling and animations, it's gameplay system hasn't relaly offered anything new. too similar to wow.

now while that may not change, what it can do is add something that wow can never do, space combat multiplayer and space exploration game using that dimension, while keeping the ground based game every bit as diverse and entertaining as wow's, but offering better graphics, and animations. For their next expansion they really need to start thinking of doing some far more alien looking interriors and worlds, using the star wars universes rich rich diversity, you already have a T V series a host of movies twith some stunning vistas that you can use, use them, lets not have every interrior look the same, and every planet look like a portion of earth even if it's stunningly designed.

Star Wars has more weird and amazing alien species that wow could never match, lets also see a few more of those, even if they're not playable. The worse thing for them would be to throw in the towel, I think they can certainly overtake wow if they introduce space exploration/combat and re-launch the game through media before even announcing an expansion.
