It describe the Galaxy dominated by the so-called New Sith Empire. It's so-called because it's divided between thousands of squabbling states. It's not so-called at all for the billions of sentients trapped inside it (the vast majority of the Galactic Population). Knight Errant describe a galaxy where there the Dark Side reign supreme. The Republic is reduced to the Core. Outside the ever dwindling Rep borders, there is no hope. There is no rebellion,no resistance, nothing. There is at the very best tiny Republican probes, for the sake of morale boost at home. (And there is pretty disgusting stuff from Rep side, such as ''humanitarian'' missions sending to Sith slaves very vicious varieties of spice to make them worthless as gears in the war machine). The only gal resisting is the namesake Knight Errant, Kerra Holt. And as she admit freely, her efforts are kinda worthless (she ended up helping a Sith taking over another Sith three times of three) ....
