Iron Fist rocks

No question I am a big fan of Taugrim's Iron Fist spec (see sticky above) and here's why:

Been a PvE tank for years across multiple MMO games, I know tanks and tanking. Never PvP'd though.

Really unhappy with the state of real tanks in SWTOR, due to, in my opinion, a poorly designed combat system. I'm talking the programming and math under the hood. All classes are truly DPS classes with a secondary attribute such as healing, tanking, CC, etc.

Not enjoying my traditional tanking role plus sheer boredom at 50 (i.e. lack of interesting end-game content) drove me to PvP. Me, PvP, lol. So I have tried all the specs out there or some iteration of them on my PvP journey.

And man, the Iron Fist 25/14/2 is just wicked and a blast to play. You have great defense (that Assault-heavy specs simply do not have, sorry), great DPS, a ton of CC, and quick interrupts. The mobility is outstanding with the jump and pull, I can annoy the hell out of a healer or caster with multiple continuous interrupts and stuns, pretty much taking them out of the fight, I can lock down a mover with all the snares and CC's. Then I can do big up-close damage and also take a hell of a beating while doing so.

Now I still do my dailies (that's our end-game, thx Bioware lol) and much to my surprise, I have found that the Iron Fist is a MUCH better build for PvE than a Shield Specialist heavy max defense build, because of the better DPS, CC, and interrupts. The mobs die faster and like my DPS buddy says, dead mobs generate zero damage. Since I've been playing Iron Fist I've gone back to my PvE tank build (30/8/3), put back on all my Augmented maxed out Veracity gear, and because of the damn combat system, there really isn't a lot of difference in defense between the two.

Another thing I have to say is that PvP has made me a better PvE player. The crucible of fire, lol. It's made me pay a lot more attention to CC and interrupting the mobs I'm tanking. i also like the fact that Taugrim put thought into this build, maximizing the synergy of the selected talents, ensuring they compliment each other and all go hand in hand. It's a very cool build and I know that nothing's wasted as far as skill points.

Anyway call me a fanboi, but I just gotta give props where props are due. If you are a Vanguard, you gotta try this build and gear for DPS, I bet you'll love it like I do.

I actually just respecced from Iron Fist to Assault. IF is fun, especially in Huttball, but it really does lack the ability to attack nodes (bunkers, turrets, doors) and succeed before reinforcements arrive. IF definitely rocked in the 1-49 bracket, but at 50, going up against WH geared players, it just doesn't put out enough damage (at least not with mostly BM and a couple recruit pieces).

Best thing about Iron Fist and the SS tree in general for PVP is Storm and maybe the roots, that's it. Overall Tactics with Ion cell will provide better dmg and about equal protection. Hold the Line is also very powerful when used at the right times, so it makes losing Storm not as harsh.
