I'm used to playing Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior classes mostly, but have also played a Gunslinger and wanted to try out Vanguard since I'm currently playing on the Republic side. What is the most recommended build currently for Vanguards? I believe its Assault or something but not to sure. Any help here would be awesome. Also, story wise, I've always stuck with my factions ways. If I was playing on the Empire side, I always chose DS options, and on the Republic side I always chose LS options. Would this be the best way just to go pure LS? I like being the bad guy only when I really am the bad guy, and in games like Mass Effect I'm always the good guy. It does get a bit boring, but the DS just seems like mindless killing (which is good for the Empire classes) so would it be good just to stick to it and make exclusively LS choices? Thanks! You can try the build bellow using a dmg gear... it has good dmg and good def... http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801GRGbdRboMZMsMroZb.1 You might also try a full dps build... really burst dmg only! but no def, you'll die a lot... http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801hZMc0MZfhrbzGGMs.1 With vanguards you should have a good rotation and a good ammo management, if you do that, you won't have problem at all, the class is amazing! about you light or dark side... idk... when I was imp, the storyline tries to put me in the light side, now that I'm rep, it tries to put me in dark side... but... in imp I'm DS and rep I'm LS. just to you know... if you go for LS, you'll WANT to kill a lot of npcs, in other hand, I like more the color crystals of rep... good hunting Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MatticusFinch Posted May 25, 2012 Share Posted May 25, 2012 As far as leveling goes, it will be easiest if you use the tank spec. You get your healer relatively early, so it makes it quite easy to blow through the story, even some levels below the recommended level. From reading the posts and from what I see in my server, Assault appears to be the most popular tree choice right now; and for good reason, it does a lot of damage. Whichever you choose for leveling, you'll get a chance to change entirely at 50 when you upgrade your gear, so don't feel you'd get stuck tanking if you level that way. As far as DS/LS choices, I think I would have enjoyed the story more if I made some more DS choices to be kind of like the Punisher, or something. In general, if you stay LS you'll basically just be saying "sir yes, sir!" all the time, or you can be more the loose cannon by going DS. Either way, you'll enjoy playing a VG, they're a blast! ATango Posted May 25, 2012 Share Posted May 25, 2012 (edited) I liked the tank spec. You barely have any downtime between fights and just storm through stuff once you get the healer companion. This became obvious when I was levelling with my friend who was a gunnery commando prior to the nerf, while doing trooper phases he would be half way done and I would be completed even when he ran double dps some encounters still overwhelmed him and the time spent in between fights doing Recharge and Reload wastes time. Would my current plan of going up the middle tree until Gut then up the Tank tree till Storm be good or would it just be easier to go all into tank tree? I'm just about to hit Taris so I'll be getting my healer soon, and just want the fastest leveling possible lol. Also, I've made a build that is my current plan for my build to use.
