Patch 1.3 Crew Skill Changes Dev Interview

If you have a level 10 item and want to keep it to 50, you just apply a higher level kit and replace the augment.

Do we know for sure that crit-crafted augment slots will be upgradable through the use of kits? Or does upgrading only apply to slots applied post-creation for the item in question?

If any augment slots, including crit-crafted ones, can be bumped up by kits, then crit-crafting will remain a nice bonus. If, however, crit-crafted slots are forever stuck at the item's native level, we're going to have a situation where crit-crafted items are actually less desirable than standard-crafted ones.

Crit-crafted augment slots are automatically the MK of the item made. For instance, if you crit-craft an item that is level 25, the augment slot will be MK-3. If you want to upgrade that later, apply MK-4 kit, and upgrade the augment.

Basically, critting is a free augment kit already applied.

Right, I get that. I just wanted to be sure that the devs didn't do something stupid like making crit-crafted slots non-upgradable because they're "free," and (in some form of convoluted alien game-designer thought process) would therefore need some kind of penalty applied in the name of balance.
