Angedechu
I'm liking here TV tropes for the purpose of showing it. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Valerian There was a long range contentious in Europe about if Valerian inspired to a certain degree Lucas (I'm sceptical on the matter personally), but there is certainly some points, at least visually. (Valerian and SW are extremely different thematically) http://kicswila.over-blog.com/article-36257778.html¸ The issue is that the comic images are from sixties and the seventies

Captain_Zone
George Lucas has taken from so many other sci-fi franchises it's not even funny. Up to and including the Green Lantern Corps in DC Comics as the basic template for the Jedi Order. The basic story of Luke Skywalker bears a striking resemblance to that of Irish Hero/Demigod Lugh of the Long Arm. He ripped the Cloaking Device straight out of Star Trek. Tatooine IS Dune.... with smaller sand worms. Boba Fett, while maybe not intended this way, turned into the Star Wars version of Batman. The list goes on, but I'm too tired right now to finish it. G'night, folks, and fly safe. o7
KorinHyvek
By his own admission, both the Original Trilogy and the Indiana Jones films drew heavily on the pulp fiction stories Lucas read when he was younger. I'm not sure what the specific ones were, though.
grandmthethird
is there such a thing as original content anymore? all films, music and books seem to be inspired/stolen from something the creator has seen, heard, or read. i always thought "starwars" had something of "dune" about it Edited April 28, 2012 by grandmthethird
Listerman
I stopped believing in original ideas altogether. It's all just basic conventions given different spins. Which is fine. Though for some, the need for something "new" or "different" clouds their good judgement...Just because it's "new" and "different" doesn't really make it "good".
